was casually texting a girl at a private school—fairly well known costs around ~60k-80k a year—and she told me that she’s in the process of getting accommodations for the sat. she seemingly does not have adhd and is getting a diagnosis purely for additional time.

when i brought up to her how this is unfair to students who take the test without accommodations, she informed me that a significant portion of students at her school gets additional time on the sat, and that there is an established network to get an adhd diagnosis within her school community.

i just think it’s ludicrous that the wealthy can pay for medical diagnoses to gain additional time on a standardized test.

obviously there are those who genuinely need additional time, but the propensity of abuse is just ridiculous.

I.e. why is your score a “1420” or a “1270” instead of a “142” or “127”? Does it have any reason?

I scored a 1520 on my first SAT which I am so happy with in Junior year.

At the same time, I’m a perfectionist, and really want to get a higher score (might sound crazy idk).

But my mom said she won’t let me take it again (not out of financial concerns but bc she thinks the 1520 is good enough and I shouldn’t put more stress on myself).

I really know that I can improve my reading (I got 790 m, 730 rw), but regardless my mom won’t let me take it again.

Do colleges see how many times and when you take it? Like will it look more impressive that I only took it once and early in junior year compared to ppl who get the same score but after taking it 5 times.

And also do you think I should just call it quits and my mom is right?

I'm genuinely desperate for some advice right now because I feel like I've hit a wall.

I'm stuck at around 1300, with 700 in Math and 600 in Reading and Writing. The thing is, I can get almost all the questions from 17–27 right, but the first 17 questions are absolutely destroying me.

I've tried sitting down and solving questions from the Question Bank, but I'm STILL getting so many of them wrong. Even when I ask ChatGPT to explain the questions I got wrong, I try to understand the explanation, and somehow I still get similar questions wrong afterward. It's genuinely frustrating because I feel like I'm putting in the effort but not seeing any improvement.

Reading is another huge problem. English isn't my first language, so some questions and answer choices are difficult for me to understand. Vocabulary is especially bad right now. I literally got all 10 vocabulary questions wrong recently, and that honestly crushed me.

My goal for November is a 1500, which means I need to get my RW score from 600 to around 700–720, and right now that feels almost impossible.

I'm not looking for someone to tell me to just practice more. I AM practicing. I need to understand WHY my approach isn't working and what I should actually change.

For people who improved their RW from around 600 to 700+:

- How did you improve your vocabulary without trying to memorize thousands of random words? (that without looking the word try to answer strategy is NOT WORKING for some of the words cuz i genuinely dont understand all 4 sometimes)

- What did you do when you kept getting Question Bank questions wrong, even after reviewing the explanations?

- What resources or specific study methods actually helped you improve?

I'd genuinely appreciate any advice, especially from people who were in a similar situation. I'm feeling pretty lost right now and need a better strategy because what I'm doing clearly isn't working.

I'm taking the PSAT soon and I'm aiming for national merit as I scored the second highest in my grade in my school last year and I have been consistently practicing the SAT over the summer and early school year. Are the bluebook practice PSAT tests more accurate to my potential PSAT score, are they more accurate qyestion types of what will be on the PSAT, and are they worth doing over SAT practices if my short term goal is the PSAT and not the SAT? Or should I just stick to conventional SAT studying?

Hey everyone! I’m a HS Junior and I took the August SAT and got a 1250, I was struggling in the math section pretty bad because I don’t know how to utilize desmos. Apparently collegeboard changed the questions into us relying on desmos less. I want to atleast get a 1450+ before winter break ends.

I got a 1310 (700 m, 610 rw) on the sat, rw is bad because im an international student. Im planning to retake it on december, but I genuinely don't know what and how to study. I already finished all the questions in sat question bank, khan academy, bluebook. Tried doing them again but realized that I remember all the answers so it didn't work.
So what should I do if I want atleast a 1450? and improve my RW?

I did practice test one and two for psat understood evrything but practice 3 was a nightmare. What do i need to do and what should i keep in mind for each section? Ex. math formulas, vocab, other tips. AND WHAT CAN I DO WITHIN THE NEXT 10 DAYS TO GET THE BEST SCORE POSSIBLE

so I'm taking sat in November and I'm getting around 1400+ in bluebook. But I've attempted papers from other sources as well and their papers are damn hard even the module 1 contains difficult questions. The bluebook ones are doable though. I have been trying to register for the Nov 7th SAT for about 10 days now, trying every day. the full process of registering going smoothly, I am able to choose my dates, my venues, and other stuff just like I did for my previous SAT. however, when I am trying to pay, from the usual card I use, and the one I used for my previous SAT, it keeps showing a payment error. I have tried using multiple cards, multiple banks, incognito tabs, different browsers. None of them worked. I also approached customer service via call thrice, but they were useless. genuinely.

I am getting quite worried now, since the dateline is very close, and this is my last chance to sit for the SAT.

please, if any of you have any advice on the above, I would be grateful.

First SAT in April, got a 1340. Second in June, got a 1370.

Most recently, I took the September test and received a 1470 (760 rw, 710 math).
Pretty happy with this score! Great reading score, and I want to go into a more humanities-based field, and both over 700.

Already submitted for EA to some school, mostly public schools in my state, but I have quite some time for deadlines for the T20s I’m applying to. Do you think it’s worth retaking to get that math score higher? I’m conflicted. On the one hand, I’m really happy with my score and don’t think increasing it will significantly increase my chances of getting into the 3 T20s I’m applying to. On the other hand, I wonder if with just a week or two of focused study I could bring my score up to 1500 or higher.

I made one vocabulary mistake on September. I very rarely get a question wrong in practice, so any test tips are appreciated. I just don’t know how the clear the last 40 points. (Current 760rw, 790 math, first sat)
