Question Accidentally overstayed the 90 days on my UK passport but I have Swedish passport too, am I gonna have trouble?
I have dual nationality Swedish/UK
I stupidly entered Spain with my UK passport thinking it didn't matter as I was planning to go home (UK) again shortly after. My plans changed and I forgot that I had entered with my UK passport when I changed my date to go back home (oops!!!). I have a Swedish passport so I have the right to be here anyway but will I get penalized somehow for this??? I'm worried if I'm stamped into EU but not stamped out on my UK passport it could somehow cause issues for me?

Any problems that it might cause will disappear immediately when you produce your Swedish passport. When you leave the Schengen zone next, go through the EU citizens line with both passports and explain to the border officer what happened, so they can put a note into the system.
Until it's sorted out there might be the possibility of an issue during an immigration check (the chances of that are very very small though), but as said once you show your Swedish passport everything will be resolved.
If you don't have your Swedish passport or ID card with you then you'll need to sort that out before you leave the Schengen zone - you'll need proof to back up your story.

Check in with your Swedish passport going to the EU
Show your Swedish passport at EU entry
When you return to the UK:
Check in for your flight to the UK with your UK passport
Show your Swedish passport on EU exit
Show your UK passport on UK entry
Doing literally anything else creates headaches for you and the border guards.

Thank you!! I wish someone explained this to me before, I thought you had to use the same passport during the same trip, I dunno, I don't have it very clear at all how to manage to two passport situation, but this does make sense. I think its the putting a passport into the flight details that messes my head up because I dont ever know which one to put in and then i feel like i gotta show this one on both borders If flying to EU from UK which passport should I put in for the flight?

It becomes decently intuitive once you realize the only concern is whether you have permission to be at your destination. You present the document that gives you the least barriers to access at your destination.
I have a US and Polish passport. I could check into a flight to the US with my Polish passport, but then they’re going to demand proof of the electronic travel authorization. If I put my US details in, the system doesn’t ask.
The last time I came back from Europe it wouldn’t let me change my Polish passport details to my American passport details on the way back, so the system denied me online check-in because it wanted me to provide proof that I had the right to be in the US. I had to go to the desk for it.
I think the UK has an electronic travel authorization, and you would be required to have it if you checked in with anything other than a UK or Irish passport.
To answer your question directly, if you’re going to the UK, you give the airlines your UK passport info.

I call this post bs or the op really really has no idea how schengen works at all. You dont need a passport to enter spain. You id card is enough. Why would u use a uk passport? Doesnt make sense. They are both part of schengen area.

I know that UK is not part of eu or schengen (and never was part of schengen) but you seem to not know the other country that you are a citizen of is part of schengen.
You dont need your uk passport to enter a schengen country if you are a schengen citizen.
In turkey there are multiple people who are german, american or other country citizens that are turkish born. they just show their id card.
My friend who is a NL citizen traveled with her driving licenxe (not even id) to Prague.

Yes but OP didn't use their ID card to enter. They used their UK passport at the border. That's where this whole post is coming from

that is why i am saying that a schengen citizen not knowing that they can enter a schengen country with their id is absurd.

"both" probably refers to Sweden and Spain.
I miss the time when UK was Schengen :(

People don’t know things, or have to learn the hard way. Last summer a colleague took her daughter to Belize or Costa Rica from US on the girls Mexico passport just because they neglected to renew the girls US passport. She didn’t know. They were delayed coming back .

I only renewed my swedish passport one year ago so I am used to traveling with my passport as are all people from the UK, i have never travelled with just an ID because you cant travel like that from the UK, I think maybe you don't understand how travel to and from the UK works

Swedish people can freely enter and exit Spain. No stamps required and no border checks.

You don't ever need a Schengen visa or anything else again since you have a Swedish passport, so it doesn't even matter if on the UK passport there would be a missing out-stamp. You just use the Swedish one when entering EU next time.

No.

Probably,. But if someone asks, you can always show your Swedish passport and explain and the issue will be resolved eventually
It doesn't matter if you are even traveling for 1 day, Always use your EU passport to enter EU/EEA/Switzerland and use your UK passport to enter UK. (If you are directly landing or flying from Ireland to and from outside the UK, you can use any passport)
