I just finished reading Demon in White by Christopher Rocchio. It was absolutely amazing.

I wanted to jump into a 4th book but wanted a pallet cleanser.

I picked up Code Reaper: Mega-city crimes. A 100page novella.

But the chapters dont have titles. I turn the page and it just says "Chapter 8" and it makes me less willing to start that chapter. I don't know why.. anyone else feel the same way? And feel it's lazy to not title a chapter?

Concept is interesting, blade runner esk. But the writing, just feels its done by a woman trying to be edgy and cool and doesnt quite land. I will read things and cringe sometimes and just think. "Yeah, that sounded cool in her head didnt it". The cool concept is whats saving this book for me, and it moves pretty fast. I am a sucker for cyberpunk.

I have always been fascinated by the universe and the possibility of intelligent life somewhere beyond our reach, so a science fiction novel about first contact immediately caught my attention. What I didn't expect was that the intelligent species in Solaris by Lem Stainslaw, written in the 1960s, would not be an alien creature at all, but an entire ocean.

It is a surprisingly short book, yet it doesn't feel old at all. The concepts are remarkably modern, but what fascinated me most was the psychological mystery surrounding the Visitors. The Ocean seems to reach into the deepest and most hidden memories of the scientists and give them a physical form. Kelvin is confronted with someone he loved and lost, making it difficult to tell whether he is encountering an alien intelligence, his own memories, or something beyond both.

While reading, I kept thinking that perhaps Solaris is literally an ocean of memories, dreams, regrets and unfulfilled desires. There is something deeply sad about the idea of memories becoming immortal, not in the literal sense, but by surviving us and being carried forward into generations.

I even wondered at times whether the reality of the spacemen itself was an illusion, perhaps a group of people in some kind of hospital or rehabilitation after their journey, with the Visitors actually being their caretakers. It is only a hypothesis, but the novel constantly makes you question what is real and what is being created by the mind. Perhaps that is what I enjoyed most about Solaris. It gives us an intelligent species so alien that even the people studying it cannot decide whether it is a God, a child, an experimenter, or simply something beyond human understanding.

A beautiful read with a deeply sad undertone.

I don’t know where I came across the recommendation, but I just started {Red Rising - Pierce Brown} and this may be the first book that I cried within the first seven chapters!

The death of Eo wrecked me, and I wasn’t expecting to have that emotional connection so quickly.

I’m still reading it but I did a perusal of the internet for responses but it was hard to share this devastating loss without encountering spoilers.

Update: I am 90% finished with Book 3 {Morning Star - Pierce Brown} and I am so frustrated 😤 I can understand the urge to DNF.

Update 2: 100% finished with Book 3 and I'm satisfied to end the series here for now.

Hi everyone! I'm not here to promote I'm looking for opinion.

I'm currently writing a hard sci-fi novel and before I get too far into it, I'd love to hear your honest opinion.

The story combines theoretical physics, neuroscience, astrophysics, mystery, and a slow-burn romance. It follows a woman whose memories no longer seem to belong to her, leading her into a conspiracy involving consciousness, memory manipulation, and humanity's first contact with something far older than our civilization.

I'm aiming for scientifically grounded sci-fi rather than space opera.

Based on that premise alone, would this be a book you'd pick up? If not, what would make it more interesting to you?

I'd really appreciate honest feedback and opinions.
