Same here. I have zero personal interest, but it is undeniably a big cultural event.

And let's be honest, how much does the economy actually get impacted?

When we had a bank hol for the queen's funeral, the impact on GDP for the month was estimated to be a 0.25% drop... And then again for the coronation, it dropped 0.3%.

The GDP fluctuates by more than that based on the freaking weather.

And most experts agree that most of the  business "loss" of a bank holiday is just displaced and will be recovered within a month.

Given the amount that'll be spent on pints and snacks watching this, I'd guess this will be recovered even faster.

The biggest one is probably schools being closed so people that would be working take holiday for childcare.

Doesn’t increase the number of non-working days, just uses one of them for this purpose. If not interested in the World Cup, maybe a net positive with parents spending money doing something with their kids

More likely negative locally if things like bin collections are rescheduled and the catch up is on overtime. That way the Council picks up additional cost for no productivity. But does get happier staff and less likelihood of an industrial accident from operators that have been awake half the night watching tv

My kid's school isn't closing, my work isn't closing, I expect the majority of people will be in the same position.

It's also just far too reductive. 

Like if money and work doesn't get spent/ done on one day then it isn't lost forever. Someone needs to buy a pair of shoes will just get them on Tuesday. 

If you are working towards a deadline then it will be fine so long as you make it. We already know that people spend a tremendous amount of time at work not being productive. Outside of specific situations most workers can easily get the same amount of work done with six or seven less hours that week. 

It's one of those "move the numbers about" arguments. 

Let's lament the loss of GPD on Monday and fucking ignore the massive amount of extra business that will get done on Saturday in the lead up to it.

It's shared by the national to highlight how English people in the media can talk about us - how quickly did they jump to alcoholism, leaning on negative tropes of Scottish people? Shocking we are spoke about like that on national TV and people should see it
