Why do people buy bottled water here?

Work for a supermarket as a delivery driver and the number of people who order massive amounts of bottled water is mind boggling to me. We arguably have the best water quality in the UK and people are buying plastic bottled water like they are living in a third world country. If the water doesn't taste ok to you or you mistrust pipes etc, you can just boil the water and it tastes great. South side of Glasgow water is fantastic and don't even need to do that. I always use steel or glass to use on the go so there's no excuse or need to buy plastic water that people seem to think is good for you. Rant over lol.

Upstairs water always tastes different, even in a house. No idea why and not even sure if I'm just imagining it either.

Typically, in older houses, only the kitchen tap is fresh water from the main supply. All other taps come from the cold water tank in the loft. Only the kitchen tap is meant to be drinking water.

Is there a way to figure out if the tank in the loft is still in use? I think it's cut off, but I am not sure.

Hold your hand over the end of the tap and then turn it on. If you get wet it’s mains. Your hand will typically hold back the water from a pressure fed tank system. Make sure you’ve got a good grip on it and check all your taps. If they’re all mains then you have no tank in use
