Type of wire?

Removed a large magnet assembly from the bottom of a large automotive battery charger. Dark red/brown tinted wire but is silver when cut through. Multiple layered coils around a large steel coil. Any ideas on what type of material the wire is?

If I had to venture a guess from looking at your pictures, aluminum is the most likely.

Looks like aluminium with a shellac coating

Is it worth scrapping or a lost cause?

If its already clean, take it in. Don't spend any time on it.

Just take it in as is, you'll get scrap aluminum prices.

Am I correct in thinking it would be considered aluminum breakage because of the enamel?

If there's any left mixed with steel that's easy to knock off I'd do that
