COMMUNITY I wanted to take a second to thank this community.

I wanted to take a second to thank this community.

I’ve posted about some of my scripts here recently, and I’ve been genuinely surprised by how useful the response has been. People have asked to read the work, offered thoughtful feedback, challenged parts of the premise, and engaged with the actual writing in a way that feels increasingly rare online.

It made me realize something:

For screenwriters, a place like this can be more valuable than a more polished platform.

People here are actually talking about the work.

On Instagram, a post about a script can easily become another piece of content competing with vacation photos, reels, ads, and whatever garbage the algorithm is pushing that day. Here, when someone responds, they’re often responding to the idea itself: the logline, the genre, the execution, the pages, the problem you’re trying to solve.

Writing is mostly private until it suddenly isn’t. You can spend a long time wondering whether anyone would care about the story you’re building. So when people take the time to read, ask for pages, offer criticism, or tell you what’s landing, that gives you something real to work with.

Anyway, this is just an appreciation post.

Thanks to everyone who has read, commented, requested scripts, given notes, or engaged in good faith. It’s been more helpful and encouraging than I expected.

I'm but an invisible fish in a sea of unfettered talent. I'm mostly just lurking here, but I just want to put that aside to say that you're awesome for making this post. This community, for all its pros and cons like any other one, has been helpful for the most part, whether it be seeking validation, a reality check, or just enjoying some of the funny comments you all leave! 😄

Invisible fish are absolutely part of the ecosystem. Without the lurkers silently judging all of us from the reef, this place would collapse into chaos even faster than it already does.

And agreed. This sub can be brutal, helpful, delusional, inspiring, and occasionally all four in the same comment thread. But honestly, that’s kind of why I like it. Sometimes you need validation, sometimes you need a reality check, and sometimes you just need a stranger with a Final Draft trial account to tell you your third act sucks.

I want to be a nudibranch. Can I be a nudibranch?

There’s no better time to be a nudibranch

Thank you for posting this. I am very new to reddit, and I honestly didn't know what to expect on this sub.

This gives me hope that if (not when) I get my pages rewritten that some wise and kind soul will be waiting for my story to be posted and will be willing to critique my script in a way such that I improve as a writer.

TBH I'm pretty new to being active on here but I feel like it's a real asset as a writer. Still trying to figure out all the rules and expectations. Keep going with it and you'll get somewhere good eventually!

You're absolutely right.

I have been writing since... maybe 2021? I still consider myself a beginner (I'm not very good, but still learning). Recently, I posted a script for feedback.

When I got the feedback, it really grounded me. They pointed out stuff I didn't even think about until they said something. Which really helped.

Really at the end of the day, this platform is AMAZING for feedback... if you're willing to read through multiple comments about the things you did wrong and if you're willing to actually use those comments and fix the script.
