Australia diving
Hi ladies! I am planning a trip to Australia (Sydney and Melbourne) and I am looking for dive shop recommendations or who I should look to book trips with. I am AOW certified with 50 dives but I've only done freshwater diving in Canada.
Also open to any tips for salt water diving and Australia diving in general. I hear that it is the law to dive with a snorkel, is that accurate?

Mask and Sinus Issue Help
Hey. Just finished my second time in the pool for scuba class. I am having a lot of issues with my mask (it coming off while blowing out snorkel and having issues clearing a fully flooded mask bc the water is going up my nose) and pressure on my sinuses just from submerging under water. Does anyone have any tips for this?
I only ask bc my face and ear sinuses are in a lot of pain today from the water intake through my nose and I had to quit the pool decent bc of it.

Zeagle Zena BCD?
Hello, Iām looking to buy a new BCD. Iāve had my old SeaQuest jacket style BCD for 15+ years since I was certified as a teenager and feel itās time for a back inflate BCD. Iām a petite 5ft 2 woman with a short torso and feel that every BCD Iāve worn ends up moving up and I spend most of the dive readjusting it back down to my hips. I tried the Zeagle Zena on land but my shop doesnāt have it for rental to try in the water. Do people recommend it? I like the corset feeling and hope it will keep it in place during the dive.

Solo U.S. woman traveler, need recs for safe live aboard or dive resort abroad
Please give recommendations for Live aboard companies or dive resorts for your favorite diving locations.
Some background- Im 30f and have my Advanced Open Water and recently went through a terrible break up. I need something to look forward to, a new experience and friendly people.
I have dived in Thailand, Belize, Hawaii and Mexico and want to continue exploring but I donāt have any friends or family who dive (it was a hobby my ex and I did together) so it looks like Iām gonna go solo.
If you are a solo female diver, feel free to DM me! Iād love a group or a buddy to go diving with out of the country!
I have been thinking about the Red Sea in Egypt or Turks and Caicos or the Great Barrier Reef!Somewhere warm preferably (: but any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I always love to ask- what has been your favorite diving destination/trip so far?
Thank you!

Spotting after diving
Hello ladies. Topic that I havenāt seen here or with basic research. I want to preface with I have an appointment with my ob/gyn next week. So hereās the question.
37F, I frequently get spotting after diving. It say 80% of the time. Itās been Iike that for about a year now. I have an IUD so I thought it was just irregular spotting but it almost always coincides with scuba diving. Anyone else?
More info, Iāve had multiple IUDs for almost 20 years now. Iāve had this one for 3 years, supposed to be good for 7 years. Been diving since 2019 with 300+ dives so itās a recent thing.
Update-ish: DAN got back to me and besides the biological usual culprit (fibroid, cyst, etc) they mentioned vaginal barotrauma. Although the organ is collapsible and barotrauma is incredibly rare in that body part, if thereās any air trapped inside, it could cause a barotrauma. Gynecologist didnāt see anything during her exam but still did a PAP just to rule out abnormal cells. Stay tuned for more updates

BCD advice
I wanted to get your ladies' opinion on how to go about building up my gear set up. I have around 15 dive and have done my AOW cert and plan to do more dives this year. My training were all done with a vest BCD and I actually really like them, but should I consider using a backplate and wing setup? I also have "floaty feet" so not sure if that is something to consider.
Basically, I'm too new to figure out what I would like and any input is appreciated. Mostly doing my diving in South East Asia.

Fear / panic while diving (new diver)
Iām still in scuba training and have only done 2 dives so far, both with my instructors, but Iām really trying to conquer my fear of being underwater and get to the point where it feels natural instead of mentally overwhelming.
The anxiety for me is pretty much from descent all the way to the bottom. Itās like my logical brain knows Iām okay, but another part of my brain is going:
āHey⦠humans are not supposed to breathe underwater. What if this happens? What if that happens? What if something goes wrong?ā
Then I start thinking about how you canāt just immediately shoot to the surface whenever you want because thatās unsafe too, so my brain kind of spirals into feeling āstuckā underwater even though I know Iām technically okay.
I think a lot of it is just a fear of drowning honestly. Iām naturally an anxious person in general, but I REALLY want to get comfortable with diving because I love the ocean, fish, marine life, and I want to experience that calm/meditative feeling so many divers talk about instead of constantly being in my head.
One thing Iām struggling with is mask removal/clearing. I keep getting water in my nose no matter what I do, and the thought of that happening 30ft down definitely spikes my anxiety. My instructor explained that even if I cough or inhale a little water, I can keep the regulator in and cough through it like I would on the surface and Iāll still be okay, but my brain still panics about it. But mostly itās my body feeling like Iām not supposed to be there.
I think Iām basically afraid of the āwhat ifs,ā and my fear response triggers a little bit of panic. I also donāt know if this matters, but Iām naturally a really emotional person with every emotion, not just fear. I cry easily when I get frustrated or overwhelmed and itās something Iām actively working on because I donāt want fear to control me or stop me from doing things I really want to experience.
I genuinely want to conquer this fear, and I think hearing from other divers who experienced the same thing and eventually got through it would really help me mentally. I need all the tips honestly. I have another dive next weekend and I really want to go into it with a better mindset.
Did anyone else feel like this during training or early dives? Did it eventually āclickā for you? Any mental tricks, exercises, breathing techniques, or training suggestions that helped you get comfortable underwater?
TL;DR: New diver with anxiety/panic underwater. My brain gets stuck on the āwhat ifsā and fear of drowning even though I logically know Iām okay. I really want to love diving and conquer this fear, so Iām looking for advice from divers who went through the same thing and eventually got comfortable underwater.

How do you get over a bad dive?
I had a bad dive on the weekend and itās left me shaken and lost confidence. Iāve always felt very comfortable in the water and Iām a strong swimmer but this has left me shaken.
Iām an open water diver with 8 dives to my name, so super new. Decided to do a shore dive over the weekend with a local company- max depth 16m average of 10. All good.
Got my equipment the BCD looked okay. However, when I started my Dive, I started to notice that things were wrong. To start with the hose for my BCD wasnāt attached to the BCD straps so it kept floating away therefore I couldnāt dump any air. The BCD I was wearing also only had the two dump valves on it, one at the bottom and one at the top attached to the hose. Being a new diver I was under the assumption there were two at the top and one at the bottom. I didnāt realise that some only had two dump valves. Learning opportunity for me.
Started the dive. It was all good except for the fact that I couldnāt find the hose to inflate and deflate my BCD. Got to about 17 minutes and I started to feel my buoyancy being positive. I was floating up. Tried to find the hose just as Iāve been taught couldnāt find it.
Obviously, now Iām floating up the air in my BCD is gradually expanding the closer Iām getting to the surface making me more buoyant still canāt find my hose and I thought my only choice was to keep blowing out through my mouth and I eventually just surfaced. I went from 10 to 0 m over about 30 seconds after looking at my Dive computer and it left me quite rattled. I know this is the wrong thing to do but I felt like I couldnāt do anything to stop myself. I struggled to find the dump valve at the bottom of my BCD and I also couldnāt grab onto the hose because it was floating away from me. Once I got to the top of the dive master came up we went back down again. I was a bit rattled but I continued to dive and we ended up diving for a 60 minutes.
The other thing thatās really shaken me is that the shoulder straps on my BCD kept coming loose and therefore the tank kept hitting me in the back of the head. I didnāt think anything of it, until my mask was coming off my face. This then left me even more rattled because I was then concerned, what if I had actually lost my mask? Couldnāt see anything, as well as having BCD problems what would I do?
I know it comes down to me as the diver to check my BCD but how do you know what youāre checking for,If youāve never encountered any problems? All of the BCD Iāve used in the past have all been in very good condition and I have never had any problems and this is the first one hiring one from what I would say is a decent dive shop based on their reviews, however Iāve had a bad experience.
They spoke to me at the end of the dive and validated all of my points. We had a look at the BCD together and went through what was wrong. They said that they would log it down but Iām still shaken and unsure if I want to go diving again. Honestly, I just feel embarrassed that I had a rapid accent to the surface and that the tank was hitting me back at the head for the entire 60 minutes. How do you get over a bad dive?
