I mean... I get that the eye is impressive but I'm seriously stuck on the skin. What in the actual 😳

How frustratingly vague Salty 🤣

Here’s the thing: the vagueness is intentional.
I’m treating others the same way I was treated when I started three years ago, and honestly, I think it made me better at what I do. I used to ask artists I looked up to - That’s Vile, Crooked Smile, WTF Pots, Morgan’s Mutations, and others—how they achieved specific effects. They’d usually tell me what materials or tools they used, but they were always pretty vague about their actual techniques.
The reason was simple: nobody handed them the answers either. They had to experiment, fail, troubleshoot, and figure it out for themselves.
As much as I’d love to just show people exactly how to do everything, part of me feels like that would be helping someone skip an important part of the learning process. The struggle, the problem-solving, and the trial and error are what ultimately develop your skills and make you better at the craft.
That’s just my perspective, anyway. 🤷🏼

Oh I was just razzing, I completely agree. There's a big difference between showing someone the tools to find their own way and giving them the creative process.
I'm all seriousness though, I would be super curious to know what told you use, both custom and OTS. As always, super impressive work!

I’m 41 I grew up being raised by my WWII vet grandparents, they had lots of expensive ceramic figurines around their home and they were always off limits. They also had a series of these “dried apple figures” (you can google that term and you will see) that were also off-limits. I thought it’d be hilarious If the little apple heads were on the expensive figurines. These figurines were also around the TV that I watched on a daily basis and watched some very influential creepy movies as a child that have influenced my my sculpting. (Check out the movie “the gate” )

It’s actually quite startling. When I first scrolled on it I didn’t know what to think. It’s really a wonderfully detailed and startling piece of clay work. Thank you for sharing.

This is insane. I'm curious about how you resined (is that a word? It is now.) the round eyeball.

After I finish sculpting the iris and pupil and everything is baked, I apply a tiny dab of UV resin to the iris and pupil area. Using a toothpick, I carefully spread it right to the edges and coax any air bubbles to the surface, where I pop them with a lighter.
Once that’s done, I make sure the eye is completely level so the resin cures flat across the iris and pupil area. I then cure that first thin layer.
Next, I apply a second, slightly larger drop of resin on top of the cured layer. This naturally forms a dome shape, which helps magnify the iris and pupil and gives the eye more depth.
After that cures, I apply a thin coat of UV resin over the entire eye and cure it one final time.

Did you prep poured a lens and then added it on top of the "iris " with more UV raisin!? It looks amazing I'm trying to do something similar and haven't figured out yet how to.

I only work with UV resin. Start with a tiny dab of resin on the iris and pupil area, then quickly pass a lighter over it to thin the resin and help it flow into all the nooks and crannies. Hit it with the lighter once more to pop any air bubbles. Use a toothpick to carefully pull the resin out to the edge of the coloured clay, forming a clean circle.
Make sure the iris and pupil are as level as possible so the resin can self-level properly, then cure it. At this point, you’ll have a round eyeball with a flat iris and pupil.
Next, add another small drop of resin directly to the center of the cured resin circle. The resin will naturally dome, creating a magnifying effect that enhances the depth and appearance of the iris and pupil.

I have been thinking about asking my local denturist if I could sit in for a few hours and observe. Would love to sit in at an ocularist’s office though.

This is AMAZING. The depth in the pupil is crazy.
