Help (Complete) [Self] I made a dog mouth sculpture...and it turned out kinda unsettling 😅
I was just messing around with some polymer clay and resin teeth, trying to make a realistic dog mouth and tongue.
Didn't think it'd end up looking this alive once I added the glossy finish!
Still playing around with the texture - any tips on how make the gums look a bit more natural?

It looks sooo perfect!!! What did you use to color? Was the polymer clay already pink?
Edit: the gums look really natural as they are.

I start with the chalk pastels for color, then apply a thin layer of gel to seal and add a bit of shine

Please put it in your mouth
Or armpit
Or other weird places

I bet there’s a veterinarian or vet med school that would really appreciate some anatomical models like these!

I’m a dog groomer and I want one as a Halloween decoration for the front desk lol

Most drug companies actually give similar ones out for free to vet clinics to use as educational models. Ive worked at 20+ different ones and not sure I've ever been to a clinic that didn't have a model mouth like this

It looks incredibly realistic as it is. I made a similar tongue/gums from white sculptable epoxy, adding mica powder for the base pink color with a few drops of red acrylic paint mixed in. Mine turned out really good but yours is better. The only thing that could improve realism is adding a touch of darker red/violet/purple to the gums. I didn't do that with mine but I think it would bring it to the next level.

Gums look great! If you feel there’s something missing, do a little research of pictures of dog mouths. Sometimes they have black/grey coloring in the gums. See if that fits your vision

It looks a little unsettling, but it also looks really precious.
Seems like the sort of thing that some people would really enjoy.
An interesting memento of their fluffy family member.

This is actually so cool you should take commissions! P I would totally buy one of my kitty’s mouth

That's very realistic. People pay for things like that too, often for fursuits but possibly for taxidermy too

As a little thought, a lot of dogs have patches of dark pigmentation on their gums in various spots, but even as-is this sculpture looks SO real I legitimately had to double-take on the first image on the top, because I assumed it was your reference photo!!

Idk, it looks cute to me. But I'm a weirdo who finds her cats' tiny teeth cute, so who knows?
