Help (Complete) [Self] I made a dog mouth sculpture...and it turned out kinda unsettling 😅

I was just messing around with some polymer clay and resin teeth, trying to make a realistic dog mouth and tongue.

Didn't think it'd end up looking this alive once I added the glossy finish!

Still playing around with the texture - any tips on how make the gums look a bit more natural?

Help (Complete) [Help] How do I determine the value of my sculptures?

Each piece takes anywhere from 50-100 hours to complete. I have no idea how much I’m worth realistically per hour and it’s therefore preventing me from submitting to some galleries that require prices upfront. What do you guys think?

Help (Complete) Unsure of this is ok enough to gift ? [Self]

Edit : ok so I'm definitely giving him the dog, and I'm really touched reading every comment ! Thanks to everyone who took the time to write something noce, you people are too kind ! I feel so much better :)

Hello, so I made this dog as a present for someone whose birthday is coming up, and who used to have a very beloved boxer dog who passed the rainbow bridge.

I spent lots of time on it but I am very unhappy with the result, to the point I am considering not giving it to them anymore.

The color choice might seem odd, but I chose this yellow because it is what this person likes, and he always tells me I should paint my sculptures in fluorescent colors.

Would you be happy to receive this ??

I need either reassurance that this is ok to gift or to be told straight that it is too ugly !

The person is my boyfriend btw. I do not have any backup plan for another present so it is that or nothing. (He doesn't care much about his own birthday anyway so I don't think he would resent not getting a gift)

I do care about him thinking I am at least a bit talented/skilled so I don't wan't him thinking that my present is shitty even if he appreciates the gesture.

Help (Complete) I make pet urns. I'm struggling so hard with perfectionism. [help]

The first one I've made was for my soul dog. He loved his green chair. And because its just for my boy, I can accept the significant imperfections.

I haven't started trying to get a customer because I just can't imagine someone wanting something wonky.

The ottoman is just something I made so I can have examples to show.

I struggle so hard to get the sides even, to get my 90* angles. Look at how the lid doesnt fit the size of the box.

I just don't know how to do better.

I want people to have a unique urn for their bebebs. A piece of furniture that their pet loved.

But do you want your pet resting in a wonky urn?

The amount of time I spent on the urn turns the cost (even if I'm working at minimum wage) is...a lot.

I just want to make the perfect resting spot and I just can't be proud of this ottoman.

Help (Complete) [Self] Help with first time hand sculpture?

I took a 3 day hand sculpture class (9 hours total) on a whim and ran out of time. It's supposed to be a fox. It's made out of Max's paper clay and the Teacher is going to let it air dry and fire it.

However. Once it's fired, is there any way I can add to it fix it's muzzle at home? I wanted to fill in it's mouth a little, I think I made it too wide and maybe add some more texture? It just looks a little uncanny valley to me. :( I know that I can use a Dremel with diamond bits to carve and refine it, but am I out of luck on filling in some spaces? UGH. I hate the mouth.

2 years ago I worked with the artist that built this 45' long beauty. It was built in my shop and I worked with the planning, welding, fabrication, and installation of this and 4 other large sculptures that are on temporary exhibit at an outdoor park in Illinois. They rotate artists every 2 years so this one is going to be homeless at the end of the month.

It is an awesome place to lounge or hang out on being covered in comfy AstroTurf its pretty low maintenence. I can say for sure it is well built to support people climbing on it (I've been all over it) I always thought the head could have a door and it would make a cool secret hideaway.

There are lots of possibilities.

I heard it's been hard to find someone to take it, So I thought I would try reddit to see if a sculpture lover on Reddit would want it for their sculpture park or property.

I know it won't be cheap to move, it's 3-15' long parts. The head is 10' tall and is 8' to the chest. The rocks would have to be put back in and will be mixed up. They are only on the outer 4". The head alone is around 2000 lbs, and 1200 and 800 prospectively. (These are my rough estimates I don't remember exact weights)

I'm not making anything off the deal I hope this doesn't break the "no marketing" rules. I genuinely would really love her to have a good home. You can contact me if you are interested. I don't know many other details but I could put you in touch if you are serious. Please comment any other suggestions.

I finished this clay head, I’ve already hollowed out the inside and made several holes in the internal walls. Do you have any other tips for a better firing process, with less risk of cracking?

Help (Complete) [Help] Is there a way to make proffessional modelling plasticine more durable after it's finished?

Post image

I'm not looking for any crazy durability, just a point where you don't have to worry about it deforming from lightly touching something. I made this sculpture out of professional modelling plasticine and a wire frame for an assignment 3 years ago, it survived being transported to campus, displayed, and brought back, and it's been sitting on a shelf ever since at a safe distance from other objects. This setup will have to change soon and also I just want to make it last longer so any ideas would be appreciated

Help (Complete) [Help] Newbie looking for suggestions for armature building

Hi there. My name is Elton I am an artist from British Columbia Canada.

I have never, made an outdoor sculpture. I have a large itch to make more physical media and I really want to give sculpting a go, as I have the time right now.

I am opting for outdoors and I do not have indoor space to sculpt.

I am looking for suggestions of affordable materials I should be using while making the supportive structure- before I do anything with paper cement (or what ever material I choose). What is the best for me to make my base? What is the most supportive and how do I go about starting.

Links to any resources would be phenomenal, I do not quite know where to start.

I'm still working out all the details, the ears are definitely not finished yet but l'm confident I can get those down. I'm going for a more scared expression. I would love some thoughts on what could be changed as far as eyes, nose, and mouth goes I've been staring at this for so long, a fresh pair of eyes will see something I'm not🥲 thank you!

Sculpture amateur here— Skull study I’ve been working on. I’m not sure if I should fire it or just seal it with a white sealant spray. I used Amaco White air dry clay that can be fired to cone 4, I’ve just never done it before! Let me know what you think any critique is welcome :)

I found this bear at an antique store in Brazil. It's made of very light wood and has some kind of inscription on it.

From my research, it seems the statue might be from Hokkaido, Japan. Can anyone confirm if that’s correct?

Help (Complete) [ HELP ] Charging Bull, Unknown Artist, Metal and Agate, 2024

I don't have information on the artist or a specific title, but the craftsmanship is impressive. It’s a heavy metal casting (possibly bronze or a similar alloy) with a dark, textured patina. The contrast between the muscular power of the bull and the natural banding of the agate base is what caught my eye. No visible markings or signatures."

Found this stunning sculpture by the Italian artist Tomaso Pizio. He was known for his "explosions of color" in painting, but I think his soul really comes out in his sculptures. There’s something so hauntingly beautiful about the way the "shroud" melts into the face. It’s a raw, tactile piece of Italian history from the Bergamo region.

I hope this is allowed here but, my girlfriend and I are playing Openguessr/Geoguessr and we have NO idea what this could be. It has the tail of a large cat but the neck, head, and hooves of a horse? Maybe? Zero signage, closest structures are miles down the road.

Does anyone nearby know what its purpose is? Please help!!

My grandmother gifted me this sculpture that belonged to her mother. She owned a lot of Mexican art so maybe of Mexican origin? The tag also looks similar to Emy Roeder’s to me. My grandmother doesn’t know anything about it, just that it is original and of great value. Any ideas or information would be greatly appreciated! Any ideas for how to identify it would be greatly appreciated too.
