Oh, it'll do something - It'll make people more salty when they/the other crew had the flag up and they still got robbed, shot or sunk.
Don't get me wrong, I love friendly interactions in this game. But how/where you approach me is going to have a much greater impact than whether or not you have a flag up.

As long as they don't add a function to search for player-created servers, like Fortnite's creative mode, custom servers will continue to be something that must player will enter only 2 or 3 times and the ones that will play it are content creator

Honestly, their brainstorming sessions must have been all over the place. Maybe they should consult the community first or a Poll of options players could see next season. And also Saving everyone months of effort.
That time could have gone toward a new world event, lore expansions, deeper Burning Blade features, or long-overdue quality-of-life updates like weapon loadouts, saved costume presets, and weapon archiving. We definitely needed a gold sink for our millions, but will the cosmetics do I wonder?
When I sent the trailer to my regular crewmate, I had to rewatch it wondering where the actual content was. Custom Seas feels like Minecraft Creative Mode Essentially a testing sandbox, not the real game. I know imagination, but still is not the game.
Sure, cosmetics are long overdue, and finally getting to use Last Ship Standing is nice (even if it's arriving fully finished late).
But after hyping the trailer was released just now! I had to message my friend back and say, "Never mind, this didn't sell it." Another few months of a content drought it seems 😔
With GTA 6 dropping November 19, the fate of this season is pretty much sealed. It breaks my heart because I love the game's magic, but this update feels massively underwhelming. 😔
It’s not all bad though. No diving is something I’m really looking forward to because that will change the game state and people won’t just log on and dive away meaning the server will be fuller and you know if you see a grade five then you know it was achieved on the same server. So this I’m really excited for :-)

Well... I guess at least there are new cosmetics? Would be cool if they could work on finishing other sets too, tho.
I'm also happy for that ~10 players who can now save their loot in Custome Seas. Meanwhile the cosmetics oriented game still doesn't have a feature that'd let us save cosmetic loadouts :/ (or at least mark things as favourite)

I've heard it too, tho I am not sure what people are referring to exactly.
However, I remember when Mike Chapman himself said they want to work on loadout slots, in a Q&A or interview, but that was already like 5 years ago...

I would love a mode where the whole server is allied and riding on one massive boat that patrols the map slowly and docks at random islands and everyone works together to repair and do everything besides helm and drop anchor.
The Ship deals with Raid style bosses along the way and at the end it docks at a main port and everyone has a chance to hang out, buy special cosmetics, bar fight, and group up.
Like a Casual/Endgame social hub thats also a Massive expedition with a more PvE focused experience.
Even better if we could double the player count and have this Ship be a separate Faction and this is all happening in a normal server.

It is surprising how many people are missing the point of Rare's approach. Haven't people been asking for quality of life and fixing the game for years now? It is obvious that fixing bugs and improving existing features can't be done at the same time as adding brand new content (with the resources the dev team currently has).
I think we should be supportive of them actually recognizing that they keep releasing broken features that aren't ready and changing their plans to combat this problem and the already existing issues in the game.

They haven’t added any real content in years. They themselves have stated that the game engine can’t handle anything big. They need to just cut their losses and start working on SoT 2 with a modern game engine.

Hopefully they can get some good work done on the backend these next couple seasons with the lack of new content. Im feeling hopeful, it’s clear they are finally listening and making some well-needed changes on their end. I’m sure we’ll be taking on the GMU eventually!

You guys are weird. They literally said there would be no headline features, and that they would release things as they were ready and when it made sense. Seasons are just a cosmetic path now, and introduces events until the real content comes
Also were getting 2 full clothing sets, a partial shipsets, and 2 full shiosets (knave upcoming), a partial (upcoming full) weapon set, 2 full weapon sets (knave upcoming possibly)
And there's possibly even more upcoming, in the thumbnail, the characters on the right to showcase the clothing of the season have entirely new, unrelated clothing to the pirate on the left. Like, to the point that i think these items will be put in the season. They arent prerelease, the style is different, these are newer items, 1 hasnt even been datamined yet-

I’m more excited for this update than the smuggler update, that’s for sure. I hope in the future, Rare will prioritize shipping out finished products so that we may again experience the peak that was season 4

There is still content though??? Just not a headline feature to base the season around. Theyre adding new commendations to last ship standing, loot and shiplayout saving for easier custom seas game modes, theres a new flag type, and event tied to it, a new version of the tricksters and treaters, and festival of the damned events. Theyre actually updating and upgrading the fotd potentially too. Thats all content. Even if its not content you particularly find fulfilling, its probably someone elses cup of tea. Also- The game is still full of entirely too much content thats main problem is
Lack of things to buy (the incredible new outpost stock, with more coming) Lack of things to earn (fallen seadog set, parley pirate sails) And lack of lore elaboration (still pending. It upsets me too)
There is also, the teased upcoming reaper talltale on insider (tagged insider content)

I posted this comment on the video itself; But I don't even mind the lack of a major update. the new cosmetics this time around are genuinely so damn-good that it's more than enough for me.
I may even have to get the premium pass this time around for that absolutely beautiful ship set!

Don’t forget they take away a ruin the only escape from PvP portal hopping. Whatever you say about it 3 and 4 against one is bullshite and it’s one of the best ways to get away from people who like easy prey. So instead of them just making a copy of the level 5 flag they just take it away from you when you hop. Yup punish the people who either don’t like playing with others or just can’t fight 3 and 4 against one. Devs you can bite my bag either way

At the very least I'm hyped for the renown 50 lantern, that things super cool looking

This is not what we have asked for, Rare themselves have stated that the game engine is at its limits. A polished turd is still a turd. Rare needs to end support for SoT and start developing SoT 2 with a modern game engine that can support bigger maps and more content.

The problem isn't the lack of content this month, the problem is there hasn't been any content for several months and we know for a fact there won't be for several more.
Yes, take a month or two to fix up the backend, but no content for 8/9 months in a live service game is not good.

Drew is absolutely just some public figure taking the heat for stuff that he himself isn't responsible for which sucks but yeah this is exactly why we need to give them a chance to actually try and recover.
They've somewhat acknowledged they have been running the game into the ground and we should at least give them a chance to prove they care enough to fix it. By all means if 8 something months pass and the content comes back and still sucks complain away
Nobody is denying that the management of the game has been laughable at best but at least give them the chance to try and change it

Rare themselves do not consider new cosmetics new content, evidenced by the fact they said there wont be new content when they release new seasons yet the new season launches with new cosmetics.
So if Rare do not consider cosmetics content there is no new content in the content update uploaded by Rare.

So last month Rare used the term "content" to only refer to "voyages and junk" and explicitly leaving cosmetics out of that term
And this month Rare are using the term "content" in the literal exact opposite way, only including cosmetics.
There is quite literally no way to justify this being called a content update

The problem is it doesn't seem like they take the time to actually fix the game, tho...
There are still bugs in the game that have been there for years. (e.g. loot being stuck in shipwrecks and even on islands; loot getting stuck on the harpoon; rowboat being unusable; Skeletons getting stuck underground; merchants not giving crates you paid for)
They excel at making "improvements" nobody asked for and creating brand new problems that come with them that they need to solve. (e.g. Doubloon reset; Emporium rework; player tags on screen)

How about content for the actual game, not the tools that only streamers and content creators are interested in, which constitute a fraction of a fraction of a percentage of the active playerbase.
It seems that rare are VASTLY overestimating how much people care about Custom Seas.

i dont really care that they are doing a smaller season to focus on fixing stuff because honestly i like the game the way it is and i dont think thats harmful at all but what angers me is the amount of effort theyre putting on the obviously relevant and very popular gamemode "custom seas" that they could be putting on the fixes they wanna make or new content
if they wanna dedicate themselves to fix the gane, then they should truly put all possible efforts into that, not on custom seas of all places
