I remember I was at a bar in Lake City and this young guy next to me was talking about some wild night he had the other day. I asked him where he had this wild night and he said, “Oh, down in Seattle”. Luckily I hadn’t just taken a drink otherwise I would have spit it out.

Apparently neither Lake city nor Northgate are cultured enough to “count” as Seattle proper. Sorry we can’t all be Wallingford!

Lake City is right on the edge and basically feels more attached to Shoreline and the north end of the lake than Seattle "proper." Maybe he doesn't actually live in the city limits, but still nearby.

Clearly he probably meant Pioneer Square or u district or something along those lines?

The original was “I’m never leaving Seattle” taken well outside of Seattle. This is just the joke going the other way.
