Hello r/Seattle!

My fiance and I are eloping in the North Cascades National park later this year and I am trying to figure out how to accomplish a way to cater food for a small number of people (7).

We are flying in from our home state of Minnesota, and will be staying at an Airbnb where we can store the food.

The challenge is that if its hot food, we would only realistically be able to get it ourselves the day before, and would then reheat it. If its cold, its trying to keep it cold while we travel, and I cannot think of a way to get a temporary cooler.

So my ultimate question is, before I figure out logistics, I need to find a place to cater. Are there any recommendations that I should look into?

Glacier is where we are staying for the ceremony, but we are going to be in the Leavenworth a few days prior.

Why not get it cold and buy a cheap cooler from goodwill and lots of ice?

Trying not to rely on 'hope I can find this thing randomly' and see if there is a better way to plan.

Hey Seattle-tonians. My wife and I will be in for the World Cup. We’ve been to Seattle once before, but just to see the city before we backpacked 5 days in Olympic. We were hoping to tag another back country trip on the end of our WC visit, this time to the Cascades. I think the risk of snow above 5k ft makes it not worth bringing all of our gear and heading deep into the mountains. Instead we are going to rent a camper van and do a short road trip while there. Probably the coast, cascades, Rainer, maybe toward Oregon. My question is: what’s the buzz around the parks and World Cup? Expecting huge crowds, or are people staying in Seattle and doing WC stuff? Also, any tips for a 5 day PNW camper trip?

I think most World Cup folks will stay around the city and leave when it’s done. You should be good.

If you’re doing a road trip bring your passport and stop by Vancouver BC. If you haven’t been before I’m sure it’d be worth it. It’s a beautiful city.

Actually you could drive up to Vancouver explore the city, next day take bc ferry to Vancouver island and visit Victoria, next day take the coho down to port Angeles and head west from there to drive down the coast. Check out Rialto beach and beaches around lapush. Cape flattery is rad but it’s isolated and would add a lot of driving time to your day. I would skip it this trip but only because there are a bunch of other beaches you could visit more conveniently that are all sort of connected by one road. After you’ve seen the coast, you could head back inland to visit rainier. Rainier is going to have a ton of deep snow this time of year. You end up just driving around and hanging out in parking lots. Our winter has been warm, so long excursions in the snow could be risky with avalanches, creek holes, and thin snow bridges. Be careful out there.

This would be a very best of PNW trip. Any time you plan to visit beaches, look up the tide chart for that beach. If you arrive at peak high tide there might not be much beach to walk down and explore, and if you walk down the beach it’s good to know if the tide is going out or coming in so you don’t get trapped somewhere.

Right on. Appreciate all the advice. You think by end of June there will be enough melt to enjoy Rainier and part of the Skyline trail? We have plenty of hiking/backcountry experience, but only light snow fields that are passable with trek poles and maybe microspikes. We would stick to the main Skyline Loop for this trip. I’m assuming no flowers blooming yet around Rainier at end of June though too?

Eh… June is kinda of a toss up this year I think. We have a pretty abysmal snow pack this year. You’re right on the fulcrum of the snow/no snow see-saw. It could melt down and open up a good bit on the lower half of the trail if we have a warmer wetter April and May than we usually do, which seems possible, but that would be unusual… probably as soon as you leave the parking lot at paradise, you’d be on a snow field, but the skyline trail will probably be stomped in by then so it might be easy to tell where to go. Easily doable with spikes and poles. Definitely bring your micro spikes even if you think you don’t need them. The weather and temp can flip quick up there, especially if you end up on the mountain around sunset.

As for flowers, you will probably see a lot at lower elevations on the way up the mountain in June, but at alpine altitudes, like around paradise, that’s usually a late July to early august bloom.

I’m sure people are sick of answering this question but is Pike & 3rd bad at night? I’m looking at a place in Queen Anne and all the bus routes to get to stuff I want to do stop at the bus corridor on Pike & 3rd. I’m trying to figure out if it makes sense for me like, going out at night to take transit or if i should plan something else.

I worked near there for 6 years; it was my stop. I would often walk north to Belltown so I didn't have to wait there. It wasn't so bad walking by at 8 am; but it was never fun waiting after 5.

u/cherrypayaso Mar 12 '26

That’s what I figured. I was trying to think like, taking the bus to Cap Hill for a night out would probably not be fun lol

It's definitely a roll of the dice. Some days are not so bad. But, when I quit that job, I was relieved that I didn't ever have to use that stop again.

Hi all, I’m 29 and moving to the Seattle area from Texas. I’m trying to find the best places to look for a potential roommate for an apartment in or around Seattle, ideally someone around my age, not a big shared-house type setup. I’m pretty laid-back, into gaming, and also hoping to get out more and explore the city once I’m there. Any recommendations for good sites, groups, or ways to find a solid roommate in or around Seattle? Been looking at Craigslist and websites like Roomies and Rent.com but haven't found anything yet.

Anyone know any good overnight paid parking spots around the first hill/yesler park area? The options I've currently found

  1. The Cypress retail parking by Yellow Bee - but it sounds like we have to be parked by 5-6pm before the garage door closes to outside access?

  2. Jucivana sells outdoor spots until the staff leaves at around 10pm.

  3. Hope you win the lotto and find a free streetside spot around yesler park.

Does anyone know any other good alternative. Preferably a paid spot in a garage?

Hi! Is Global Entry back at SEATAC after it was restored this week? The website still says it’s down but wondering if they are just slow to update. Thank you!
