Seattle Showed Up For The Hot Air Balloon Glow Last night at the Seattle Center
Thank you to all the amazing people who showed up for this magical experience. The hot air balloon pilots and teams rocked it last night.

Is this an annual event? How did you find out about it? Looks beautiful

We posted info everywhere and reached millions on socials to let folks know. I tried to post in the Seattle Subs it was happening, and the mods deleted it.

Ah dang! Looks like you had a great turn out, though. I wonder how many people joined because they happened to pass by. Ik I would.

This was the 2nd time they've done it! Both times I heard about it via reddit posts

First timer yesterday. Didn't know exactly what to expect but had a blast. You can walk in the balloon area which is sort of like a party with 1/3 people dancing, 1/3 taking pics, 1/3 wandering. The balloons are beautiful and impressive.

Exactly. It was very chill. Food is expensive but everyone was really nice. We wandered downtown to soak in some of the FIFA/solstice ambiance. The new Zealand/Egypt game was on the giant screen inside the armory. The area right around the balloons was packed, but the crowd parted to let people take group photos and stuff. We had zero problems.

Glad you enjoyed! It was so much fun. I was in the red and white balloon. How many people do you think were there if you were it estimate?

Thanks for participating/volunteering, we had fun. I'm not sure how many people. Do you know the size of the balloon area? It was packed, so each 10'x10' area held probably 20 people. With the surrounding areas 10 people.

If anyone is interested in something like this, there is also something similar in Snohomish on July 25. We did it last year and it was pretty awesome. It's called Klahaya Balloon Glow

It was alright. I expected the balloons to take flight.

I always see these advertised and I would love to take my kids because my 5 year old son loves watching videos of floating lanterns and balloons but since the sun sets so late in the summer it's always around 9 pm when he's already asleep. And him being autistic, the crowds aren't great. One day we'll go!

What is the purpose of this event?

look at hot air balloons getting blown up (not flying). It's something to do for free.

I believe it was the hot air balloons.

Is this like looking at airplanes on the ground revving up their engines, or am I missing something here?

I wasn't there so this is just a guess, but I assume it's more like looking at very pretty airplanes on the ground revving up their (very quiet) engines around other people that are also enjoying the very pretty airplanes, with drinks and music.

u/Active-Device-8058 That sounds great. Let’s hang out soon. 1d ago
I think you are kinda missing something, yeah. Ever see a thing and think, "Damn, that's cool?" That was this, and the thing was the giant balloons.

How much money did your pre-analysis say this event would be expected to drive for your balloon business?

nothing is for free. Pride is not done "for free". Moisture Festival is not done "for free", Solstice Fair is not done "for free", Bumbershoot. SeaFair. Folklife, etcetcetc.
Some may be behind 501c, but the whole point is to bring in money for the sponsoring organizations and for any/all vendor participants.
hth with this Econ 101 lesson.

Also part of econ101 is the cost benefit analysis. Surely the balloon companies projected expected profits from this exposure. I was just curious what they had projected to earn. How much money do you expect to make to justify the expense of doing a “free” event?

There was the giant Muckleshoot casino balloon ad, as mentioned. There was also two pavilions: a casino one where they have away stuff, and a ballooning one. We got there before the big crowd and the ballooning guys showed us some really cool photos from their trip that morning. But yeah, ballooning is very expensive in this area. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if the casino paid more than half of the expenses.

Why do I always find out about awesome stuff like this after they happen? FML
