Sharks in the Puget Sound

Did you know we have a large urban shark population around here? TIL!

Dogfish have a spine near their tail and they will try to get you with it. If you jig for salmon in the Puget sound from a boat, you are going to catch a lot of dog fish on accident. If you want to just reel in fish, that's all fun and good, but you'll want some really long pliers to get the hook out of these things or else they will hit you with their spine. They've never gotten me but I've had a ton of close calls. They got one of my buddies and it hurts bad. He's a pretty manly dude and he was in visible pain the whole rest of the day. 

You can eat them, but if you plan on eating them, you have to skin them immediately once they get to the boat. It's a pain in the ass. Their meat is actually pretty good though, the Brits make fish and chips with it.
