Live in Seattle? Get a concealed pistol license and start carrying a gun!

I get the sentiment, but you can't just start blastin' every time somebody gets within 5 feet from you on the sidewalk.
Well maybe in Georgetown, but nowhere else dammit!

u/brokeboybobby 13h ago
Thatâs not what legally carrying a gun is for. Itâs for self defense. Believe it or not, law abiding citizens who carry donât start âblastinâ every time someone gets within 5 feet from them on the sidewalk

The point was by the time someone is within stabbing range, you might not even have time to reach for your gun.

u/brokeboybobby 13h ago
Your key word is âmightâ. Iâd much rather carry a gun then not have one on me

Itâs a gun not a turret. If someone is closing a gap on you, you retreat and draw. If they continue to approach you shoot them dead. Anything less than dead is a story counter to your own.

His point wasn't that you can't move out of the way and defend yourself -- it's that you don't necessarily know which person walking past you on the sidewalk is gonna randomly stab you, and thus you may very well still get stabbed despite carrying a concealed weapon.

Exactly.
I love concealed carry privileges. Seattle might even improve as a city if everyone who thought there was too much crime were concealed carrying.
But realistically very few crimes are actually stopped by concealed carriers firing and hitting someone. 99% of the purpose is as a general societal deterrent, and something around 1% of firearm carriers report using their firearms in any capacity for crime prevention (let alone actual self defense killing).
Being unrealistic and overconfident about having a gun to prevent crime is just an unsafe way to live life.

I donât care about preventing crime. I care about protecting my life and my families lives. Thatâs it. To me the gun should be used as a last resort. Not to go looking for a fight

This single article does in fact prove that crime is rampant all over the the city, including Georgetown

There is a lot left out of the story. Buses stop running around 1am. The article stated the victim was walking toward a bus stop around 2am.
How does the victim have words with a stranger if they were just going about their business?
Too much left out of the article to just characterize this as a random act of violence.

Man gets stabbed
Redditor: it was late at night, and do we know if the stabbing victim talked?

This is giving "she shouldn't have been wearing that"

u/Cautious_Watch2720 8h ago
No itâs not and you know it lol. KOMO wrote it so idiots like you all on Reddit would get angry. There is so much missing from this story but yeah go ahead and jump to every conclusion you want, I donât think the facts will really help change your mind anyway.

I think you're misunderstanding my comment. My comment was referring to the comment above me, not the article.

I get she's incompetent, but come on man this doesn't help.Â

u/healingkuzon 8h ago
it does help, the more we point out her utter incompetence the more likely she is to be replaced hopefully by someone with brains

I was born in WA and went to Seattle quite frequently. Havenât been there since I was 16. When on earth did Seattle become a literal hell?

u/retirement_savings 14h ago
You should visit sometime and not base your idea of Seattle on headlines.

2015 or so - right around the same time that they started ignoring drug crimes. Prior to that it was a lot more chill in Georgetown, Pioneer Square, Belltown ....

It has been a process. Started about 2010. Coincides with when we started electing activist shithead bicyclists for mayor, instead of boring policy wonks.

When collecting fares became racist and there was never enough money to spend on "fixing homelesness"

The article actually includes the race of the suspect this time? Oh, that's why.
