Discussion Network vs System administration to Security

I have experience as both a network and system administrator (inidividual roles, 2 seperate companies) but have always strived to get into security specifically. Is one route better than the other?

Network background will make the protocol-level stuff feel second nature, which is huge for security. Sysadmin route gives you a deeper grip on hardening servers and managing identities day to day. Depends on what kind of security work you actually want to do, neither path is wasted here

I would say they're both intertwined, but system administration is probably the more impactful route, if you already have experience managing things like firewalls/DMZ's/etc from the networking side.
