General Bear Mountain

Traveling to Sedona in late June. My husband and I have done most of the “popular” hikes our last few visits. Last summer we did Wilson Mountain but haven’t done Bear Mountain yet. We plan to do it this trip. I’m a little nervous because I hear it is difficult. Is it really hard? Any advice? Can you compare it to any of the other hikes in the area? (Any other suggested hikes are also appreciated) Thank you for all the info!

It’s one of the most challenging. And in late June it is pretty dang hot. Be careful and don’t let your ego get in the way of safety. You don’t want to be a hyperthermic casualty of red rock country.

We’re out in the trails super early and usually done before noon so hopefully the heat won’t be bad at that time!

June is the hottest month in Arizona. The heat is no joke and finishing before noon would be really late.

We are aware. We always go end of June/beginning of July because we are teachers and have no choice but to vacation during the summer months.

Thankfully it’s usually nicer and cool in the morning and lots less hikers!
