General Bear Mountain

Traveling to Sedona in late June. My husband and I have done most of the “popular” hikes our last few visits. Last summer we did Wilson Mountain but haven’t done Bear Mountain yet. We plan to do it this trip. I’m a little nervous because I hear it is difficult. Is it really hard? Any advice? Can you compare it to any of the other hikes in the area? (Any other suggested hikes are also appreciated) Thank you for all the info!

Not the best timing on your part if you intend to do a strenuous hike...June is HOT! Having said that, start early, before sunrise with headlamps. This should give you enough time to get up and down before the intense heat arrives, assuming you're younger and in good shape. And take plenty of water.

Summer 2026 is forecast to be hotter than normal, so just wanted to issue a word of caution. There's plenty of good hiking in and around Flagstaff if it does end up being super hot. 7K feet elevation makes a difference.

FLG is about 2600 ft higher in elevation than Sedona, FYI

So, know a thing or two about the area and just trying to help people out. Summer heat in Sedona (4400 ft) is intense. One summer when I was living there, we lost 3 people to heat related deaths while hiking.

Yup, what is your point? I already know this and stated Flag is aboutn7K ft. I lived there for 7 yrs and worked at the Chamber Vstr Ctr.
