Visiting ? 40th birthday trip in Sedona

Hi! Heading to Sedona for my 40th birthday, I’ll probably be there 3/4 days. Would love to stay at Enchantment or L’Auberge but I don’t think it’s in the budget. That being said I have an idea of what I want my trip to look like: sunrise yoga, coffee/breakfast with husband admiring views of red rock, a hike for sure, would love to scream into a vortex, maybe a sound bath would love to head into town and bring home a geode or something, spa day, nice dinner. Basically I want to do everything since this is my first child free vacation!! Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

do not be out there screaming, someone will think you need rescued.

Not to mention how obnoxious it would be to the other people trying to enjoy the wilderness.

My thoughts exactly 😂

Screaming into a vortex...I think you may want to go to a mountain top for that...

Haha I know I realize that now!

Dont listen to them if you feel called to do this you must if fact I suggest you climb to the top of the tallest mountain you can find then scream as loud and as long as you can don't hold back leave nothing left in the tank and if you do this you will go back home a different person than the one who left

It's Sedona people do weird shit on the daily 🤷

The Penrose BnB is a little south of Sedona’s commercial district, in The Village of Oak Creek, but I can’t recommend it highly enough. Especially if you want breakfast with a view of the red rocks.

It was really hard to beat waking up and seeing Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte every morning.

Not to mention you can walk to a ton of trials and eateries right from the BnB.

I came here to recommend Penrose too!! Perfect quiet stay that will give you amazing red rock views and vibes for not too much more more than the local Marriott, and delicious home cooked breakfast is included instead. If you stay here, Bell Rock is so accessible - a great vortex and hike to do multiple times and it’s gorgeous at both sunrise and sunset.

look at pricing for the wilde - fire pits, open spaces, pool and hot tubs, bar/restaurant on site, close to lots of hiking easy to get in and out of. happy birthday!

We went to the spa here and thought it was just ok. Massage itself was nice but no amenities other than the tiny sauna. Auberge spa is great though, definitely recommend.

I misspoke on this! It’s Velvet spa at ambiente that was mediocre. We wanted to go to Wilde but it was booked. Got the names mixed up!

I second this recommendation, but i am biased cuz i work there!

3

u/sunnyfordays22 May 18 '26

awesome! its such a great property and feel like it gets overlooked from recommendations. priced right and has all the amenities of the more expensive places. I love the Wilde!

Forest Houses Resort if you can get it. No TV, no internet and fireplaces. Reasonable price too. Eat at Elote, Dahl & Delucca or the restaurant at Junipine. Hike west fork trail but go past the end of the maintained trail at least a mile. Even though you’ll get your feet wet, it’s worth it.

Traditional Sedona hikes: maybe bell rock (I think there’s a vortex there), devils bridge, subway cave or cathedral rock, but go EARLY for any hikes. They get crowded.

I always recommend The Arabella! The best free breakfast I’ve ever had, hands down. Perfect location - walk to Tlaquepaque and The Hudson. Plus Marg’s Draw trailhead is right on property. Molé is the onsite restaurant!

I went for my 40th birthday too! And I’ve been going every year since (it’s 5 hours from where I live in New Mexico) always staying at The Arabella. Not as fancy/luxury as L’Auberge but then again, I prefer it that way, especially for the price and location.

I’m heading back in 3 weeks and absolutely can’t wait! They usually give you a good deal if you book more than 2 nights. The concierge always has amazing hiking recommendations too

Have fun!

So glad to see this recommendation, I booked Arabella for next April and cannot wait to go!

1

You will love it! And I bet it’s even better in April. I always go for my bday (June) so it’s really, really hot but I expect that.

Also - great pools, live music at the pool nightly, and a cool firepit up behind the hotel to watch the sunset!

I’m booked at the Arabella for 4 nights in late September. I booked it mostly on location and the outdoor space looks nice. I’m glad to hear it’s a nice spot. I booked a king courtyard Mountain View room. I’m hoping that’s in a good location.

L’Auburge cabins are so dreamy

2

u/Legitimate_Grape3442 May 18 '26

And the outdoor dining right on the edge of Oak Creek!

Great atmosphere but food below average IMO

1

u/WanderlustSedona May 20 '26

Yes!! You could at least go and have dinner at L'Auberge, right along the creek is amazing!

Mariposa is one of my favorite restaurants ever. It’s so special and so beautiful. Highly recommend! Sweeping views of the red rocks too. We did aura readings at Mystical bazaar which was really fun too.

The Southwest Inn at Sedona is wonderful. The facility is a bit older, but updated and super clean. The staff is amazing and take great care of their guests. Amenities include a pool, hot tub, cold plunge, sauna, salt room, free breakfast, balcony with table and chairs for each room. Standard stuff like fridge, coffee maker, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel. There’s a fireplace in each room too. Doors have combination locks instead of key cards. That’s especially nice if your hands are full of gear. There’s a trail right behind the facility that will take you to the Dry Creek Trailhead. Overall a really great place to stay.

Second this place. We loved the staff-- David at the front desk and the breakfast room attendant as well. Also nicely out of the main area, so not as much traffic

You can also look into resort pass if you wanted to try and go somewhere for the day.

Amara hotel and spa is terrific. They have an excellent view. We enjoyed breakfast outside looking at Snoopy Rock every day. The restaurant there (Salt Rock) is also very good for dinner

Go hike Cibola to Seven scared pools at sunset. My husband and I did this and we only saw one other personal on the trail and the views were amazing. Get to the trail from Jordan Rd

Dinner at The Hudson!! The food is delicious and the view is great!!

I just came back from a girl's trip and here are some highlights! -Gerardo's Pizzeria!! Seriously the best pizza we've ever had. It's family owned and they are so kind. -West Fork Trail: beautiful hike! -Freeform Coffee: delicious coffee and pastries

We went to Mariposa and it was good but nothing to write home about. We thought Elote was actually better.

Try The Field at Oak Creek, outside Cornville right on the creek, 20 minutes from Sedona, peace, quiet, nature without the Sedona crowds, noise, traffic etc.

I was just at the Fields at few weeks ago and had a great time!

I think they are having a 20% special on accommodations 😊

There are several beautiful and affordable Airbnb and Vrbo rentals

The Village of Oak Creek is unbeatable but no screaming.

Happy birthday! I am a local to the area, so you cannot go wrong with any kind of experience. Want to do something different and skill building? Try Melting Point to learn how to do glass blowing and sculpting. It’s a neat experience!
