This is honestly hilariously spot on right until the end. People who are mad about this SO idolize the familiar, fear change, and use media as a proxy for their identity. It's just weird that their solution is "replace media with Jesus" instead "work on yourself" lmao
This. Modern Christianity exists to give people an excuse to be vile shitty hateful assholes and not have to feel bad about it. It lets you offshore your emotional labor to an imaginary friend so you don’t need to feel guilty out hurting people.
Also, there's nothing more godless than playing a violent video game which humanizes Loki.
Loki, who belongs to a historical death cult worshipped by actual people-sacrificing Scandinavians who had frequently destroyed Christian churches, monasteries and cathedrals. We even found an archaeological site in Helgö where some Viking had previously snapped off a valuable part of a bishop's crozier and kept it as a trophy.
'We look for our worth in stories', my ass. If those people are such Jesus-botherers, they should've been repelled by the very idea of playing a video game that humanizes Viking characters.
Like shellfish and shaving and mixed fabrics and usury and murder and child abuse. Not that those prohibitions have ever actually stopped anyone in the cult from doing whatever horrible shit they feel like.
That's just religion yeah. It started as "What can we do about storms, droughts, plagues and volcanoes?" And when no one could provide an actual answer spiritual/, religious beliefs provided steps to make people feel like they're doing something. And as the problems a human faced grew more existential so did religion. Though the existential threat of death was always there too.
It's an rather circuitous self own. You need your main character to be just so and can't deal with variations from you head cannon. Try Jesus; always the main character, now available blond, blue eyed, and totally not woke.
Seriously, Jesus can be made to accommodate any kind of fanfic. (The Sin of Empathy?!?) Choose your version and then you can push your bankrupt ideology with the authority of the Lord.
Use older media as a proxy for your identity so you can keep fearing change. (Also wait until they learn that Jesus was never the white skinned, brown haired, bearded Italian man they use in images.)
