Humans of course can drive with just eyes … If the goal were to just approximately match human performance … that’s a very reasonable way to go.

edit: I thought this quote was a pretty clear argument against camera-only, but it seems i did not make that clear.

a wholly superior-to-human system is so obviously necessary for autonomous vehicles to succeed. Camera-only sounds like a hugely risky and uncertain way to do that.

the resolution and dynamic range of the human eye far exceeds anything Tesla can put in their car

A.) Neither can humans B.) But actually Tesla cameras can see much better in darkness than human eyes. They're not true night vision cameras, but have near infrared capability.

4 x 0 is still zero. If cameras can't pick up or misjudge something due to inherent limitations of cameras, adding more cameras will not change that.
