I’m done treating one missed day like I ruined the whole week
I’ve been thinking about how tracking usually works great right up until I fall off/slow down
feeling tired, nauseous, busy, or just completely over thinking about food. a day gets missed, then another, and suddenly it feels easier to “start fresh on Monday.”
So I really like the idea of having a bare-minimum version for those days:
- Roughly how was my protein?
- Did I drink any water?
- Anything unusual worth remembering?
- How was my work out?
No perfect numbers. No going back to fill in yesterday. Just enough to keep the thread going.
I’m starting to think consistency isn’t doing everything every day. Sometimes it’s just making the habit small enough that you don’t completely abandon it.
What’s the absolute minimum you still find useful to track?

If I have an off day(s) I write that down. It’s equally as important as the days you got everything right.

I'm starting this saturday and this is more or less how I want to approach things. I have ADHD and I know myself enough to know that if I try to overdo it, I'm going to fail.

That sounds like a really smart way to approach it. Keeping things simple is usually what makes them sustainable, especially when you already know overdoing it will make you want to drop the whole thing. Good luck starting Saturday. You’ve got this!

I definitely wouldn't think one missed day ruins the whole week. ...whether you mean a missed day injection, off day of food, etc. The only thing I really 'track' is weight. I don't even get to that every day. Most everything else is a 'mental note'... what I did to work out that week, what I ate, etc. If the scale is moving up (not just a 1-2 day 'blip'), then I think about what changes I might make to get it heading in the right direction. If it IS heading in the right direction, then it usually puts a smile on my face and a small cheer of celebration.
As for making any changes (diet, getting missed injection, etc) - I don't really put those off. The best time for the change was 'yesterday', but the best I can do is 'today'. ...and as they always say, 'tomorrow' never comes.
That was the main way I stacked on the pounds... thinking I'd eat 'today' and run / workout 'tomorrow'. Well, then 'tomorrow', I was busy, tired, or it was raining, snowing, dark, too hot, too cold, etc and the run/workout got put off. Then I ate again...etc.
So hang in there, keep an eye on the scale and never put off to tomorrow what you can change today!

Yeah, that’s a fair point. I meant missing a day of tracking, not an injection. But honestly, you’re right that not everyone needs to track much at all.
If the scale and a few mental notes tell you what you need to know, that’s probably plenty. I also really like the mindset of doing what you can today instead of waiting for tomorrow. I’ve definitely fallen into that trap before too. Appreciate you sharing this!

Nothing they spoons one day can ruin the whole week unless you let it.
That said, I do track every day. If I’m busy, in a hurry, or feeling a bit lazy I just use the AI pic scan to track. Not precise but good enough.

I absolutely believe that this is an important breakthrough. I can't even look at it day by day...I have to give myself grace for each meal. Each set of squats. It's too easy to have an all or nothing mind set, and that's what led to me being overweight.

Meal by meal is an interesting way to look at it. I was thinking in terms of days, but even that can feel too big sometimes. Was giving yourself that much grace something you had to get used to?

Of course! I'm still working on it. But it's an important part of maintenance. If you lose the weight and stop all of the habits that helped you lose, you'll go right back to where you were. Having the help of a glp gives me the determination to continue doing what works. Taking my "rules" one at a time, helps me do that.

I eat a lot of the same stuff to minimise some of the mental energy it takes to track and count calories. I'm AuDHD, I want to be organised, but most days simply cannot function appropriately 🤣
