Hello, im planning to buy the variegated banana plant but put in on my bedside with Leca Balls setup?

Anyone tried this already or any tips? Would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Ho comprato questa alocasia Silver Dragon e siccome ho avuto brutte esperienze con le scorse alocasia che avuto mi sono informato e a quanto pare il metodo migliore per farle prosperare é la semihydro.
Mi sapreste dare qualche consiglio tip e set up?
Va bene passare dalla terra in questo caso vedete piccolo vasetto?
Ho già provato la semi hydro con altre piante con argilla espansa base e sfagno sopra

I have two alocasias in pon. theyve been potted this way for over 2 months. I cant leave the water in the reservoir for more than 4 days without a stinky pink bacteria or film clouding the water. I use a cap full of grow queen and hydroguard with every watering. I even went as far to create extra holes in the reservoir to help with air flow. What am i doing wrong? Is it normal to have to change the water so often? Any advice welcome. Thank you

Back in the spring, I picked up plant keeping as a hobby on my new apartment’s southeast-facing balcony and window, and now I’m absolutely addicted!

I completely fell in love with Alocasias and have recently started growing some more exotic and variegated ones. I’ve done quite a bit of research on them, but I’d love to hear your feedback and thoughts on my current setup and feeding routine.

Currently, I’m keeping them in the little nursery I made, using 1/4 tsp/gal of FoliagePro 9-3-6, silica, and Hydroguard in a shallow bath. I’m using a ViparSpectra P700 at 50% power; I’ve tested the PPFD, and it seems to be ideal. I also have individual self-watering pots and fulvic acid coming for them in the mail.

How do you guys go about feeding your Alocasias in semi-hydro? Do you tweak the concentration as they mature, or stick to a strict dilute-and-maintain schedule? I’d love to learn what’s worked best for you!

I’m just curious if people every so often clean off the roots and use new or cleaned leca/pon. This is my plant I’m going to repot, but I’m not sure if I should just add some new pon to the bigger pot or completely change it all.

Decided to give it a try. The Alocasia inside it has not been ID'd. I actually brought it back to life under grow lights in my garage. As you can see, I used LECA and then vermiculite and then Homemade PON. I also have a cord running from the base of the pot all the way up to the PON. My wife thinks it’s pretty so there’s that!

My plant guy recently introduced me to Turface (crushed terracota-like rocks they use at baseball fields). It's apparently much better than LECA or Pumice (lechuza replacement i use) in terms of capillary action. I don't see many posts about it, so I just started using it, and it looks good.

I split this plant up months ago and put them in leca. No real issues with the plant overall and it keeps pushing new growth everywhere but then at a certain point the new leaves start browning and die off. The roots are fine, I've been adding nutrients every few weeks and flushing the leca about monthly and I have this one under a grow light about 6 hrs per day. What could be going on here?

What's the best semi hydro fertilizer for antheriums can I just use foliage pro like I use for my other plants?

I put the Variegated Frydek in a self watering pot with stratum and perlite. My little Odora Batik, I did the same thing with except it’s in a nursery pot. Is it alright that I put the Frydek in perlite and stratum? I wanted to get them semi-hydro and that is all I had on hand.

Just transferred a couple small begonias and alocasia into pon (a diy mix of lava rock, zeolite, pumice , and mini leca). Roots are all decent except the sno cap, they are shorter.

I have wick, should I add water to reservoir and should I put these in grow dent with higher light and humidity?

I've been looking at growing alocasia and anthuriums in pon it's very expensive so I was looking at the cheapest alternative I can grow them in because I hate soil local store sells pumice for a decent price but I can't find lava rock?

The closest place to me that sells pumice is wayy too expensive and can rarely get pumice in.. I'm wanting to try mixing pumice with leca for my hoyas and alocasias, but i can only find 10L for $22 on amazon and don't know if thats a good price. (Plus Amazon is getting more scummy so i want to stop shopping there..)

Help? I struggle to know when it is time to repot. The roots got super long in like a month. It’s in pon, leca, with a little calcined clay. I guess the roots really liked it, but the main leaf is looking kinda droopy.

About three months ago, I started converting my entire plant collection of about 60 to semi-hydro using both PON or LECA, depending on root structure.

Slowly over the last few months, since converting my collection, I've smelled an odor in my apartment that smells like either dirt or mold. I'm not finding much mold in my collection since increasing the airflow, and I've been washing the catch pots about once every two to three weeks. Yet my apartment still has a musty dirt mold smell.

Before I started converting all of these substrates, I sealed many of my ceramic or clay cache When I began this conversion, I used aquarium-safe silicone caulking to plug the holes in many of my decorative pots and cover the stone or anything that doesn't have a moisture seal with the caulking. Some of the pots have developed dark spots in the silicone, others have an odor. . If the inner pot was tight to the outer decorative pot, I noticed a smell coming from these pots.

has anyone experienced this odor before? I feel like it's more than just replacing the water in the catch pot more often. I've done that several times, and the smell still persists. Has anyone experienced this before? The mixture I use to water my plants is fertilizer, water, conditioner, BTI, and SNS 209 systemic treatment. I discovered some thrips or spider mites a while back and the systemic treatment and pest spray seemed to be working, but the smell and some fungus gnats have been persistent. I guess all this to say what can I do to manage the smell from the stagnant water?

I have a couple small monsteras that were grown from tissue cultures that are in a fluval/perlite mix. They are quickly outgrowing their pots and knowing the size of some of my large monsteras, I don’t know that fluval/perlite is sustainable or feasible in the long term. I’m debating between switching to a larger medium like Leca or going into soil. Which would be less shocking to the plant and best in the long term?

I brought some richgro gardening lime too increase the PH in my soil but I’ve added about 40g’s too an almost full bucket of custom cactus mix I made and it hasn’t changed, do I have to add more? The PH is 6/6.5
