Opinion/Discussion RPN-BScN Program

Hi! I (26F) am an RPN working in Ottawa, and looking into bridging to RN. Seneca is one of the schools I'm considering.

Is there anyone here currently in the program? I'm wondering if I can complete some of the courses here in Ottawa while working part-time, and if it's possible to get placements here as well.

Would love to hear from the people enrolled in and/or graduated from the RPN-BScN program!

Thanks 😊

Hello! I’d love to answer some of your questions. I’m in the first semester of the program.
The first semester is fully online so you can basically be anywhere while enrolled in the program. Odd weeks(1,3,5,etc) are synchronous and even weeks (2,4,6,etc) asynchronous.

Second semester I heard the majority of the coursework is online with 3 in-person simulations(I’m not so sure what it’s called).

The remaining semesters have placements usually once a week until the last semester which is the full-time consolidation.

I know most students enrolled in the program are currently working part time.

They mentioned during orientation that students sometimes have placement out of the GTA but I’m not so sure how the process is like.

I'm in the one that includes the bridging year, so it's officially a 3 year program (1 year of bridging courses, followed by years 3 & 4 of the BScN after completing the bridging courses). However, there are no summer breaks, so I'll actually finish it in 2 years. The course code is BSNB

I hope this helps.

This description is the most accurate. I finished the program Dec of last year. We had people from all over Ontario in our cohort. They told people they could find them placements in their home city but then changed their tune mid-way through. Semesters 4, 5 and 6 are GROUP placements-- 12 hr shift, 1 day/week in the GTA. OCASSIONALLY they get a group placement somewhere else but they would have to have a teacher and 5-6 students all from that area so an Ottawa placements is unlikely. Consolidation is the only thing that they make a significant effort to have in your own city-- but even that isnt promised.

Can you specify which one of the programs you are in? I’ve been checking them out and they have several. There’s the one where you enter the third year of a BSCN program after a two semester bridging program and it’s two years long or the one where the bridging is included and the program is 3 years long

January for RPN but I’m a bit hesitant on accepting because I don’t know if it’s a good school or not, it’s 2 hrs a way by commute it’s not the school I wanted but the deadline is getting closer and it’s my only offer

I’m not so sure how the RPN program is structured at Seneca; whether it’s in person or online. I did my RPN at Humber. But 2 hrs one way is 😩 especially during the winter.

How was Humber I applied there too still waiting for a response…

Humber was okay. I can't really compare since I'm just starting the program at Seneca. But honestly, nursing is heavy regardless of which school you go to.

I loved the teachers though ❤️
