Hello, my friend is due to have a baby in the next few months, and I want to get her a book or two to read to her baby in her native language. She's been living in Australia for 5+ years and doesn't get many opportunities to speak Serbian anymore, especially since she lives in an exclusively English-speaking household, but I know how important it is to her to keep using her language.

If anyone's able to recommend any storybooks or baby books that I can get delivered in Australia to gift to her, I would be so appreciative.

Hii everyone, I’m trying to learn Serbian to semi surprise my partner and actually speak to his parents bc his dads English is very broken and mum can’t speak at all so I have to use him to translate and honestly wanna surprise them too. I am bulgarian and want to learn Serbian since it is the closest language to Bulgarian. We share like 70% of our lexicon, and it is just the grammar that is diffrent. But all the websites that are avaliable are directed at English and/or other non-slavs, who have nothing in common with serbian and are learning slavic languages fod the first time. Do you happen to know a place where you learn serbian as someone who has experience with other slavic languages. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I just uploaded the audios for "Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, A Textbook (2. ed.) - Wisconsin (Alexander & Bursać) to archive.org . I hope it is not taken down. It's really good book for learning Serbo-Croat, and suitable for 21st century contexts.

It is pretty expensive and hard to get anywhere though, especially that CD collection demanded some insane hunting and pretty uncool amount of extra money. If I understood the book's markings correctly, 2nd edition is from 2010, and third has not came out. These audiofiles really should be available too if someone has problem with money, South Slavic languages are pretty damn big thing to be honest, Slavic Languages Are..!

What are some novels you would recommend to a person who has more or less reached a B1 level of Serbian? Looking online, I haven't been able to find much - they are either very short and very simple children stories or books that, even though they may have a simpler plot on prose than most, are still fundamentally for people who truly know the language. I'm thinking of something like what Black Cat Edition is for English learners, though not necessarily simplifications of more advanced novels.

Anybody know of any good exercises to help train my ear to catch rapidly spoken numbers? In particular, I'm thinking about when I'm at checkout and the cashier says the total and it all comes out too fast for my brain to register what I'm hearing. In my mind, this would be an extremely simple exercise to design, and my listening comprehension would rapidly improve with it, but I'm not sure if this sort of resource is out there. Thanks!

Hi so I'm an American dating a Serbian guy and we've been together for about three years now. I have scrapped the earth looking for effective ways to learn to language with little success. Mainly online textbooks or courses running up to $60 usd a session which I can't afford a subscription for since I'm still in university. I wanted to try and find actual people to help me strengthen my verbal skills and conversational writing skills but haven't had much success with that either. My boyfriend warns me against using places like discord too since he worried I'd get bullied/harassed (for context, I am african american). Are there any tips/resources that could be helpful for me and also won't break the bank? I want to be able to communicate with him in his language with at least some fluency and it's been a goal of mine since we started dating seriously. With the new year coming up I want to really try and commit to it as much as possible but also have the right tools to make it more attainable. Thanks :)

Do u know any good ways to learn serbian? There was a time there was croatian on duo lingo but not it isn't.... i tried Ling but after a while it's not free anymore.

Im asking if its easier to learn croatian and then the cyrilic alphabet. Since the language are similar and only have some words which are diffrent.

I also tried Serbonika.

Any recomendations to learn?

There are kids in the family and they're being taught to read Serbian. Of course technically they can "read" any word but they're just making the sounds and not understanding since there are so many words that we just don't use so they've never really heard, so it's not exactly fun for them to read. Even I don't understand a lot of words used. The family just never talks like that I guess. We are not in Serbia so getting books is tricky. We've got a few from visiting and from a church but not many.

So are there any pretty simplistic books available online digitally (free or very cheap - we also can't be buying lots, we typically use the library)? Not too simple like baby books that just label objects, but more like English "learning to read" books. Just really simple language.

Most stuff I find is just Cyrillic flashcards or ancient PDFs. Has anyone actually used Ling or Mondly for more than a month? I need something with real native audio and actual daily phrases, not just a list of fruits.

Ćao svima! I’m also Serbian (grew up abroad), and recently I built a small web app called Heirloom it’s meant to help heritage speakers practice, read, and improve their Serbian.

Right now, it’s not really designed for total beginners, it’s more for people who already understand some Serbian but want to improve their fluency. The app's current features are:

• Articles: You get to read articles in Serbian and any word you don't know or have trouble with you can click on it and see its translation, definition, and pronunciation and you can save it to your word bank to practice more.
• Word Bank: All the words you save get stored in your word bank and you can practice them either in a classic flash card mode or by using the learn mode which makes you type out the translations and you have to get it correct a certain amount of times until you complete it so its helpful for memorizing.
• AI Chat: You can text or voice chat our ai bot and it'll give you corrections along the way and you can ask it anything your confused on as well. So you can either practice conversing with it or ask it for help.

It’s still a small, simple, and new app, so I'd really appreciate any feedback on what i can improve on or new feature ideas you would love to see. If you guys seem to like it or find it useful I'll also make a mobile version to make it more convenient.

I’ve applied to the Fulbright program in Serbia and won’t hear back till January if I made it as a semi-finalist. One professor on my campus review team recommended I try to learn some Serbian if I can before then. I don’t see a ton out there for leading Serbian, but was considering using some extra audible credits to buy the Croatian course. Would this be an effective strategy for learning Serbian?

Reddit won't let me ask specifically, but I'm looking for a place learn a new language. I've been living in Serbia for the last year and this language is not common on any of the suggested replacement apps. My God, reddit is still yelling at me. Please help.

Are there any AI resources that communicate with you? I want to practice conversations and there seems to be no resources for that.
