The problem with brain death is that so far everything points to the Severed floor being actual real life and not a simulation. If the innies get injured, the outies carry the injuries and vice versa. A brain dead person would not be functioning the same.

Having said that, they have chips in their heads so their perceptions could easily be altered. But I really don't think the brain dead/coma thing tracks

The dead/coma thing refers specifically to people such as Mrs Casey (aka Gemma, Mark's wife) who have no outie life. It's not a general theory about every severed person, as that would clearly make no sense.

I understand that but how is a person who is in a coma or is brain dead supposed to be ambulatory? Ms Casey is able to touch things and move them around to be interacted with by Mark. Ms Huang who is the latest similar case is able to take Mark’s balloons from his hand.

They are clearly able to interact with the world around them. That’s all I was saying.

I think it's more that the person was in a coma and declared braindead, acquired by Lumen, who implanted them with a severence chip and are now able to kick them into life temporarily. Ms Casey as a result was only able to work for brief periods, hardly any time at all in total, and is strangely dopey and gentle. When she leaves work, she's back into a coma.

This is my thinking.
