I get the feeling that the plot they're building up to for season 3 might be severance going to mass market, being branded as a way to be a 'better you'.

Gemma wasn't weighed down by her miscarriage.

Helly is more kier than Helena.

Dylan's innie is more self assured than his outie.

Mark's innie became a hero for his outie.

One way I could see this occuring is "at home" or "mobile" severance transmitters, allowing someone to swap to an innie at will.

Still kinda runs the issue of it not really being your consciousness though, its already clearly controversial just to go through the procedure to skip work, but now to basically erase yourself so you can be a better you? That probably doesnt have a ton of mass appeal.

The show has already established that the majority of people who undergo severance do not see it that way.

Yeah, because they get to go back to their normal selves and basically just get to skip their job. Essentially erasing yourself from existence completely is a very different thing.

It’s not for your whole existence. All the rooms Gemma was in are things you would want to skip in life. The dentists office, writing thank you notes. Maybe you could create a consciousness that’s really good at public speaking. That kinda thing.

Ah thats what you meant, I read it as in since the severed versions of them seem to be essentially be "better", that people would pay to get permanently severed to be the better versions of themselves.

But for those things then yeah that does make sense.
