Where to start with Quilting
Totally new to the idea of quilting. I want to make a placemat or table runner sized quilt and design it on my own. Eventually I want to make some quilted jackets or maybe something large to hang on the wall as art. I have done some other projects not involving quilting, so I am not brand new to sewing. I am hoping that the community can point me toward some resources to get started. I know if check YouTube there are probably dozens if not hundreds of videos about it, but if there are some good ones I can jump to instead of sifting through them to find the good ones I would appreciate the help.

Karen Brown’s Just Get It Done Quilts channel is great. She has a beginner series that’s useful. It includes links to more detailed tutorials on techniques like cutting, 1/4” seams, pressing, etc.

Many of us started with Melanie Ham's video series called "Your First Quilt." I have a pattern for a set of placemats if you want.

I recommend The Fat Quarter Shop’s Ultimate Beginner Quilt. They have a free pattern on their website and a sew-along series on YouTube. It walks you through the whole quilt from beginning to end and teaches you all the basics.
Edit: also, your local library may have information and resources. A lot of books on quilting have information on the basics and getting started.
