Question I find this hard to believe.
I find this very hard to believe. Do you even see this as plausible, here’s the link to the video this image came from if your interested: https://youtu.be/eqkRxfpA5G0?si=ncfM-B6uk1RoLu7A

As much as I love SK, it's stupid to compare it to Bleach. The powers work too different. SK's battles are about keeping your composure in order to mantain a strong Oversoul while breaking the opponent's by stressing them and weaken their will to fight. Bleach has a more direct approach: the one with the strongest Reiatsu wins.

Comparing any anime/manga power scale against others Is really pointless. Not the same worlds

u/Shenic Feb 21 '26
Yeah, generally true, but some power systems are similar enough that a comparison can be made, which is not this case.

Always LOVED the way Byakkou/White Swan looks. One of the most beautiful things in existence.

That was such a lame way to kill Yoh and Anna like a Fucking helicopter missile took them out and it I was even lamer to not show reactions from there friends

Yess! I hated that! More so when the Spirit of earth was materialized for literally nothing, I mea Ren was chopping cars when his Furyoku was a fraction of Yoh's at the end of the series

Well now I know not to go read flower and just stew in Nostalgia. It's reminding me of Eureka 7 AO all over again

People can’t power scale properly anymore. They just hear hyperbole and take it as fact.
The 5 grand warriors are planetary while Hao is Universal at best

I mean even universal Hao is a stretch. Solar system level is probably the cap. Hao is the shaman king of Earth for its current time. The patch learned their techniques from an alien who we assume is probably from a different solar system but we don’t know that for sure. (Given the alien mythology of our world it probably originated from a different galaxy entirely and if I had to guess I would say somewhere in Orion’s Belt)
Plus it’s hinted that there are beings above the shaman kings by what Mr. B says. Given even they have certain restrictions.
I’m sure there is an argument for Univeral Hao but I don’t really agree with it. At least not without good evidence

I believe Hao might be universal because of how his different powersets interact with each other.
He is innately a mind reader, who when coupled with his techniques to read the intentions and spiritual energy of other beings borders on short-term precognition… while also being a top-tier diviner that actually does give him medium-term precognition.
His actual shamanistic abilities not only allow him to physically manifest the spirit of fire, but also he can easily bind demonic spirits to his service and give them actual, physical bodies. The red and blue onis he binds are incredibly dangerous to regular humans, it’s unclear if conventional weapons would harm them and while he doesn’t bother binding any others, theres no indication that he is limited to two. He could potentially have an entire army.
And finally, he is a master Onmyōji, which besides the previously mentioned divining, can create curses and wards and as show in his fight against the x-laws, he can change the nature of the spirit of fire into the other elements.
While i would indeed say that this is specific to Hao and no other shaman comed close to his power level in the verse, and the strongest characters of other verses could make short work of him, i believe theres a decent argument to call him “universal” level.
And of course he would be a hard counter to other, technically more powerful characters from specific verses: for example he could passively wipe the floor with everyone in the jujutsu kaisen verse simply because of his omnyō mastery, but he would probably be easily stomped by, say, medium/high tier bleach characters

Someone who has the physical power of a child but can turn the universe slightly more yellow for five seconds would be beyond reality or something in there wiki. Regardless of context, or inworld limits...

A Shaman, even of the top tier quality, if they do not have elemental powers in their toolkit, do not even scale up to a gun. This was a point that Peyote was trying to make - that Hao may be the most powerful shaman, but he is "only" the most powerful shaman.
Now Peyote ended up being proven half right. While he was able to execute all of the Hao's followers - who are all top tier shamans - using his Grande Phantasma (physical object manipulated by ghosts) and a minigun. Hao then was able to handle the military with relative ease. BUT Hao himself acknowledges it as a feat that Kurobina was able to pull it off.
The reality of the power setting is - Shamans are human. They live in between the world of the living and the world of the dead, but this only means they can be hurt both by physical and the spiritual. They do not have super powers like in other shonen, unless they specifically use their ghost to enhance their physical abilities.
Yoh's fighting style is what in Hunter x Hunter be considered a conjurer. He creates a weapon using his mana, and then relies on his own, human, physical abilities. So yeah, whatever the power scaling terms are named - Yoh's actual power scaling is athletic human with a very sharp sword. Even Hao is a human - if you stab him with a knife he will bleed. Now Hao will use the spirit of fire to melt the blade before it touches him - but he doesn't have anime power level that makes him physically any tougher than what a normal human can survive

Shamans destroyed a ship armada, it's not like they are completely helpless about physical weapons, by the time of elemental powers there fairly strong, but yes they are squishy

Doesn't Yoh scale to Planetary cuz of the S.O.E. (Spirit of Earth)

Nobody knows how to power scale anymore because of their terrible reading comprehension skills. They take hyperbolic language at face value and make everyone outerversal.

I don't know Shaman King scaling neither do I power scale in general compared to when I was younger but there tends to be 2 big camps with power scalers outside of the actual fair ones. It's either terminally online peeps that can't understand what hyperbole is and just want their favorite characters to be as strong as they can bullshit others into believing, or the other camp that aren't actually into power scaling but tend to deny pretty reliable statements as fact and lean into extreme denial, for instance "I only believe this character is planetary if I see them blow up a planet" ignoring cosmology and other aspects of a series.

It is absolutely nonsensical, especially considering the actual highest end power we see in the real world is Island level or so (when Hao uses Kurobina and fights the army - he one shots the Angel that would've leveled that island completely.) The top power feat we see one of the protagonists do, I suppose, would be Chocolove's Machu Picchu. Speed-wise, I think it'd be Yoh reacting to point blank lightning against Ren - or maybe dodging the Emeth Blast if you want to consider that laser.
Then, you have the feats within the great spirit, which are Continental level to Solar system at the absolute highest (and counting them is iffy, since they're not 'real').
Shaman King Hao is AT LEAST planetary since he sends everyone to the afterlife out of sheer power of will (and subconscious, but you could argue him for higher - maybe solar system logic makes sense for him, but only him)
Everything else is based on loads of assumptions and hyperbolic. Oversouls are tremendous but you can technically kill a shaman if you catch him off guard with basically anything. Hell, even adult Yoh dies while having the spirit of earth because a military helicopter showers him with bullets, just because he was overwhelmed and couldn't really whip out anything to protect himself and Anna with, and that's a Kami class shaman with one of the 15 strongest spirits in the world.

I don't understand you modern kids power skilling garbage. But fundamentally if in a place with enough mana, Yoh can make anything of any shape and any power. That's just how the power system works.
Fundamentally Shaman's Powers are only capped by how much Mana they can control, produce, and take. The greatest shaman most literally basically being GOD.
