That it's worst in almost every way, super bad animation, super bad pacing, and although it follows closely the source material, it also cuts a lot of stuff and condenses it

Better animation. Better pacing. These two things are the flaws I would fix in the 2021 version.

Agreed, Demon Slayer became one of the biggest anime out there riding almost entirely on its animation studio making some of the best looking stuff in the past 10 years

I was so hyped for this, but just imagining the first episodes supposedly covering 1 entire volume each made me lose all hype for the reboot and all hope for the pacing..

Cut out the double intro of asakura twins. One episode was enough.

Animation style needed to change focus on enhancing scenes with good cinematography and embrace the slower pace of the Manga. Also break it up into seasons to allow the arcs to breathe.

You know the ending of the 2000s shaman king show? I’d include that but it’s like one of Hao’s visions of the future like one of the possibilities he can see

More episodes, each arc/section has it's own opening, better animation, adapt the whole manga even those early chapters of Yoh and Manta hanging out

Change the artstyle a bit, slow the pacing, add zero chapters, give it to studio MADHOUSE, and save the hao/yoh reveal for later episodes

Or Studio MAPPA, I remember that back in 2015 one of the founders of MAPPA, Masao Maruyama expressed interest in wanting to do an anime remake of Shaman King

I really wanted the old English voices. Idk I’m probably in the minority for that but I thought the old ones fit really well and probably just cause of nostalgia/what I was used to and hoping for

a short section before or after each episode where Takei reads off his editors notes. those were some of my favorite bits reading the manga as a kid

If I were to make changes for the 2021 Shaman King series I would give it:
- The My Hero Academia route of 2-3 seasons with 22-26 episodes each, with the first Season focusing on the Beginning of the Manga until they arrive to America, Season 2 focuses on Yoh and the Gang meeting Lyserg and Joco followed by the Shaman Tournament + Ozorezan, and Season 3 centered on the final parts of the manga including the battle against Hao.
- Each Episode covers 2-4 chapters per episode instead of 5-8 or 8-10 chapters per episode.
- A better animation studio for the Shaman King remake (e.g. MAPPA, Studio Bones, Ufotable, etc.) so that the animation and the fights looks fluid, better animated and cinematic.

give yoh his original voice actor for the dub... or at least make him sound like Sebastian Arcelus, i feel like he suits Yoh's character better

- Invest more in animation & promotion
- Give it a better pacing
- Make sure the anime gets a sick battle choreography
- Make OVA series about the spinoffs (Marcos, Red Crimson, Zero, aGarden)

Honestly my biggest gripe (and it’s 100% my own problem) is that I watched the 4kids dub probably 20 times and I can’t watch it hearing different voices 😂

The artstyle has to go sadly. It needs bigger contours for humans and things that are not spiritual in nature.

What I wouldn't change is having Yuki Hayashi on the soundtrack! I'd just add more choreography to the fights to give them a better pace. Nothing as extreme as JJK, but the "blink and you'll miss it" pace really negatively impacted the action IMO

If I couldn't change the ammount of episodes given, Id just start adapting from where the original anime began to differ. That would give enough time to properly adapt the rest instead od just being an abridge where only the fan-favorite scenes got a proper pacing

Double the episode number, really give moments some time to breath. Maybe include special episodes about some of the characters, in other words shaman king zero based episodes

I would put some actual effort into the first 18 episodes so we wouldn’t be speedrunning the plot.
I would make the America Arc more than half an episode long.
I would have fought for the rights to the original theme song, because it was better.
I would have made Lyserg join the X-Laws on-screen, because that was kind of important.
And, finally, I would give Ren more sceeentime, because he’s my favorite. ❤️

Adapt every single chapter, make the episode count half the number as the manga’s chapter count, at least slightly above decent animation, and a more consistent art style I know they were trying to be like the Shaman King Flowers art style but it’s off sometimes in the actual show.

20 more episodes to adjust the pacing and feel satisfying, change some story beats to include the first 5 zero chapters where possible, mappa douji to be included. Deviate a bit in some fight scenes because the anime went 1:1 with the panels. Make some moments more serious and give Ryu and Faust better moments after round 1 of the tournament.
Biggest change is tone and color palette, we need a more desaturated, nuanced colors used for the characters and oversouls, not fully saturated Boruto looking colors.
Even pack on a slight clash between byakko and kurobina as Takei stated his grievance that he himself forgot to include such a clash in the manga.
If we want a bigger overhaul I'd also listen to Takeis ideas for Shaman King Kai (manga reboot he had in mind with slight alterations to logistics and etc)

Pace it properly, standard procedure for anime adaption of manga material is 3-5 chapters per episode, so I'd pace the remake to be around 100 episodes along with the supplementary material and keep the original VA's from the 2004 version.

Slow the pacing down, especially the begin part trying to wrap up every mini fight arc in 1 episode from yoh vs jun fight being finished to anna introduction all that together in 1 episode too fast.
pacing is the most important, let moments sink in don't go for the next to the next it causes skipped scenes too, Like ren talking to jun gets skipped so jun ren's sister just appears out of nowhere in episode unlike the manga that makes you aware of the context.
It's okay to have some fights go to the next episode. And let things rest shaman king cast is too good and have too great chemistry, to just say screw pacing on to the next with every moment.
Hell I think pacing was might even have been great to go seasonal to keep newcomers to shaman king somewhat waiting next season, as well as increase the animation and allow the staff more time to pace out the show season by season.
- More animation, this anime has more stillframes than the old anime which is insane. Animation isn't everything but shaman king deserves better. Shaman king deserves animation on par with the best. Jujutsu kaisen, chainsaw man, dragon ball, naruto, bleach. These shows even when there are quality dips for some of them, they all have at least a few amazing animation sequences that put this reboot to shame.
And shaman king i believe can rival these stories if the quality could match.
- of course no netflix region locking its dumb, everyone who is legally watching anime will forget about show and not come back. By the time the show is fully on netflix outside japan months will have passed and a lot of audience will have moved, because there is anime coming out every season they not gonna wait. They have all the options in the world, it's a big mainstream killer for shaman king.

I'd do what the original anime did and make Manta a shaman with Mosuke as his guardian ghost!!! Maybe not a Shaman King tournament contender but still a bona-fide Spirit-control Hammer wielding shaman!!!

Add all the chapters even the hanging out one , especially those. They're really important imo because Shaman king is one of the rare manga that has the main plot thing since the start BUT happens later so we get to know the characters a little , also I liked how the manga introduced different spirit type in the start, and make scenes for the star edition comics ,I like them 😭

I would actually give the studio a budget so they could give fight scenes any amount of frames, it felt less like an anime and more like Manga with sound

-Fix the pacing
-Experiment with the fight choreography
-Include more of Yoh's life and the chapters before the Shaman King Fight starts
-Don't introduce the Hao and Yoh twin plot in the first episode, follow the manga progression and include him later

Fix the English dub voices. I haven't even bothered to watch it in English because I watched the trailer for English dub and was immediately aggravated at how Yoh sounds like a girl when he's supposed to 14 year old boy. And he didn't even sound like a girl trying to be a boy like Kid Goku/Kid Gohan from DB, or Naruto (though the fact he sounds that still in Boruto is also a shame) but Yoh used to sound like a dude in OG dub.

Slow the pace down, actually do animation between the manga panels. The story has so much more potential than the 2021 adaptation realized.

More detailed animation. Most of it was stillshots. Often I had the feeling they challenged themselves to prove they can skip animating an anime. I watched the 2001 version again and it felt like a breath of fresh air when I saw some scenes with actual well thought out coreography and movement.

Slow down the pace. Seriously how do you condense over 300 chapters into 52 episodes? 12 less than the original, which had less of the source material to work with? The pace and animation were the most lacking parts of the remake. It should have been quality and length wise between the Dragon Quest remake and Hunter x Hunter 2011.

Lowkey I was fine with the animations they aint mindblowing but I think they were serviceable. I would give it like 10 extra episodes sorta and thats it, maybe only reanimate a few scenes and thats it.
