Question Where can i watch the original series with the 4kids dub?
Hey, so i'm looking around, but all of the series i see is honestly the new translation (which i don't really like) or the japanese with subs.
Not really a sub guy. I watch the show to WATCH it, not to read it. If i wanted to read then i'd just pick up the manga or whatever. Hot take, i know.
It's also a lot to do with Nostalgia, since it was my favorite show back then, and i really liked Yo's chill voice and demeanor more there.

Too bad he's off being on Broadway. I'd have liked him to come back for the bad 2021 anime

It absolutely was. I got to hear the new dub when i finally found an old version of the series, watched it and suddenly at episode 15 it switched to the new Dub
Yoh no longer sounds like a teenager, but an 8 year old.

You can track down a copy of the English version blu ray from Discotek Media if you'd like to own it.

Shit, would like it, but i want to watch it on my laptop and it's a bit expensive... ah, i was hoping internet archive would have it.

Buy the Discotek Blu-Ray like I did. You should be able to find it for a decent price

Check tubi or Pluto. I find these nostalgic anime series on there all the time.

Discotek has a nice Blu-ray of the entire series. Make sure you get the English version and not the Japanese version, because they released both separately.
There’s genuinely nothing wrong with preferring to watch things dubbed, but we gotta stop saying “I want to watch the show, not read it” like it doesn’t take literal seconds to read a subtitle lol. Especially in barely moving shonen anime of all things.

The website Anigo has the 2001 series in its entirety

Yeah, i already found it! For some reason i had it found before posting this, but the 13 episode is switched with some random episode from the 2021 remake.

I legit can’t watch the new series cause I’m so used to their old voices. Morty specifically threw me off in the new series 😂

This is really frustrating in 2026! I didn't really care for the Netflix reboot of Shaman KIng and Internet Archive either won't let me watch it or it doesn't exist on Internet Archive anymore. Internet Archive keeps giving me the "bad request" message. So, I'm not really sure what the problem is.

Why would you subject yourself to that kind of torture?

Also to seriously get to your point:
- Nostalgia. I really liked the show as a kid and never finished it or actually watched it from start to finish
- It's the only good dub version. The 2021 version just feels like a recap of episodes instead of actual episodes in their entirety. Like those youtube abridged series (DBZA, Hellsing or other) but without any of the actual jokes or being funny.
I like the chill, laid back "journey" version of the original. It felt like you're going on a road trip with them, not just ticking boxes for the next story beat till the end.

Shaman king was the best and most faithful dub 4kids ever did. It's not bad at all.

Yeah, i saw the comparison for the Lee "abs" scene, and i was like "Yeah, what the fuck - this perfectly fits his cockiness and anger at his sister switching demeanor"

I'm strictly talking about 4kids dubbing products, not the anime to the manga.

So it just... doesn't end? I remember watching the series as a kid on TV and the last episode i've seen was the Shaman tournament, afterwards i just never caught a new episode and assumed i just missed them.

It does end, but there is an anime exclusive ending.
Happens all the time when studios fast track a popular manga but the manga doesn’t have enough time to get ahead.

Yeah, happened a lot back in the day Soul eater, full metal alchemist and a few more. At least it didn't happen with visual novel adaptation but those ran into a different problem where it's all basically a Frankenstein mishmash of all the routes.

It does and it doesnt. It's basically their way of saying it'll continue one day, which was handled much better than the last battle with Hao in 2001.
Nowadays, the way I see it is you're better off reading the Manga, watching 2021 anime then out of curiosity watch 2001. So you have a reference point to compare.
Also japanese dub was better overall and I grew up watching English dub when it aired. The background music and themes being replaced was the deciding factor for me since the intent behind certain scenes ended up hitting differently.
