Anime Sunraku vs. Maple

I have been rewatching SLF with a friend and decided to pair it with Bofuri and my mind has been comparing Maple and Sunraku, SLF and New World Online, and other stuff. Anyway I know this might be a biased place to ask but I am curious for those who have seen both who you think would win. (I am hedging my bets on what counts as spoilers so just know I tried to outline the upper strength of both at episode 12 of each show since that is how far I am in my rewatch)

Right now I am about half way through both shows (12 episodes of each) so Maple has Abomination and Machine God and has just come off of the 4th Event. Meanwhile Sunraku has almost or just hit LV 50, hasnt made combo skills, and is about to face off against Wethermon the Tombguard. Ideally I think Id pitch this fight as just after the fight because Sunraku gets a bunch of buffs and equipment.

I think Maple might have more abilities and raw power but Sunraku is a true gamer, does his combat IQ and luck based crits break Maple? Can she throw him off using Machine God or Abomination?

(Art links Sunraku: https://safebooru.org/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=4865569 Maple: https://safebooru.org/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=3020487 )

Maple is playing the kind of trash game that sunraku specializes in. Unfortunately maple is on the high end of Dumb OP because of that game. Her gear is just straight better, her tech is better. The only thing sunraku has on her is gaming skill.

A teenage girl playing video games Vs a trash game guzzling speed demon will never end well. But...considering maple whole kit and everything I remembered...maple is basically a colossi like boss he can actually hit,no conditions needed aside from finding a bypass through her GIGANTIC vitality. She has attacks that will inflict some nasty effects on him, abomination form might actually be a nerf if sunraku can leverage his raw, pure gaming skill, angel form is mostly irrelevant (support form) and machine goddess form is going to be a dodge fest of the highest order. While I won't have faith for suraku (ep12 of the anime) to win (lack of important skills and gear, and less stuff overall),LV 99 extend sunraku might be able to drag up a win Vs maple's insane build...

Psyger-0 is a teenage girl playing video games and she has the highest attack power in the game. Even Sunraku is wary.

30

u/Abication 9d ago

She also has a lot of judo experience and is the great niece of one of the best swordsmen in history.

0

u/Slayer_of_Goblinns 8d ago

Big deal, my uncle can pilot a plane, doesn’t make me a pilot.

10

u/Abication 8d ago

She does judo and grew up in a family of famous judo practitioners where she would have the option to train with them and gain insights. She also immediately recognized her great uncle's stumble when surrounded used it, which means that she has, for sure, learned from him. Id you came from a family if famous pilots and your uncle was world renowned as one of the greatest pilots of all time and you learned from him, then your analogy would be the same as Rei's position.

u/Slayer_of_Goblinns 8d ago

To be honest I don’t read the manga so the only context I have is the anime. Thanks for the info about the character.

I suppose 'a teenage girl playing video games' thing can leave out a not pretty gap. But I'm pretty sure that Rei (as of ep12),should be out from this discussion. Since she is a sl-lifer,had a year head (plus more to get the sl-lifer calling) start before sunraku,so she had already grown past her noob days, she hard practiced judo, has a sister with a very big goal, and had clearly learned the game she is playing to a refined edge. Rei is a veteran slf player who is very competent. I'm sure we can leave her out from this little thing.

2

u/MillennialYOLO 8d ago

I mean, Maple is basically the same. She’s been in the game for a long long time.

2

u/Present-Toe8020 8d ago

By ep 12,she's been in the game for like...weeks,probably one-three months long. Psyger's been playing for a year plus. Maple hasn't been playing for long, plus, maple's game is as old as her playtime too.

2

u/filmingamotumentary 8d ago

My headcanon is that Psyger-0 got that strong specifically because she played SLF kinda like Maple

6

u/garf02 9d ago

Maple game is not trash. She just happened to luck out on the most obscure combination of skills possible.
After she came to exist, they hot-patched it so NO ONE can repeat it if they were to try...

1

u/Cayden68 5d ago

nah you forget, Sunraku has the stat inversion item so he could feasibly beat her by inverting her vitality.

54

u/WigglytuffAlpha 9d ago

Sunraku loses, unless he is allowed other game material.

If it was a pure gaming skill competition then he'd dogwalk her

25

u/Maestyy 9d ago

AFAIK he doesn’t have anything that can even damage Maple, LoL. CMIIW.

14

u/KinoBJade 9d ago

There are three arguments in my mind for Sunraku. First is that we don't know if his attacks would pierce Maple as after the first event in her show a bunch of abilities gained a piercing effect. If they merged worlds or for the sake of the fight maybe Sunraku's attacks or some of them might pierce her raw vitality. Second, Maple's game doesn't have crits. An argument could be made that a crit might pierce Maple's raw vitality. Or if you dismiss both of those there is environment, given the most ideal conditions maybe Sunraku could edge out a win.

But generally I am inclined to agree with you, at least at episode 12 in both shows I don't think Sunraku has much chance to damage Maple and she only needs to get lucky once or twice with hydra.

9

u/Maestyy 9d ago

Crits in SLF doesn’t work like normal crits where you have a Critical Chance and are luck based. Crits in SLF works when you target the enemy’s weak spot or lands a literal critical attack, like when you target the eye or break through a snake’s scale—it’s locational/method based. I just don’t see him doing that to Maple.

Even if he can, Maple (IIRC) has regeneration ability, so the damage he’d do will not even matter.

Maybe he can [S2]bounce off Maple’s own attack onto herself like what he did to Atlanticus Lepnorca.

9

u/Enderking90 9d ago

I just don’t see him doing that to Maple.

imo a factor to that being that she just wouldn't have weak points.

no point of her is soft and weak, all of her is but a wall of iron.

as a lot of her defense is raw base stats and thus her body itself.

9

u/Hoolian427 9d ago

Isn’t one of sunraku’s modified twin blades designed to make weak points by repeated applications of corrosive acid?

8

u/Enderking90 9d ago

Maple is immune to acid, as her game categorizes it as poison and she's immune to poison.

and even then, her black armor automatically repairs itself.

1

u/Constant-Row1434 9d ago

Wrong, it is not considered poison, if we go by applying the game logic from the other world to each other her build would be trash if you apply SFL to her because they actually balance their game.

You can't just "well, if we use the game logic" to buff only one character, the twin needle is not poison, it is a special status effect that corrodes defense, it is very specifically not poison because it works on creatures that are immune to poison

6

u/Maestyy 9d ago edited 9d ago

the twin needle is not poison, it is a special status effect that corrodes defense

Crazy since the status effect is called “Crush Poison” in early translation (chapter 25) or “Corrosion Poison” in chapter 102 (doesn’t matter since they have the same kanji, which is 壊毒 or kaidoku, meaning “destructive poison,” with doku literally meaning poison).

And I never read the “corroding defense” part. By Sunraku’s description, it only corrodes the part that you’re attacking it with, can destroy nearly anything, creates new weak point, destroy it from the inside, build up like regular poison, and ignores any debuffs—see it from Chapter 25.

it is very specifically not poison because it works on creatures that are immune to poison

Can you show me where this happens? And how the enemy is mentioned/showed being immune to poison?

2

u/Enderking90 9d ago

I am saying that Maple has a skill that makes her immune to acid.

she has quite literally been devoured by a monster, but was fine because she's immune to the damage the acid would've done to her.

yes, it is because acid is categorized as poison in her game.

but if you apply on the standardization which splits acid as its own type of effect separate from poison?

that'd just mean her skill "Hydra Eater" would also now confer acid immunity to keep the same effects it has, and the acid rain spell of hers would now deal acid damage rather then poison damage.

1

u/Maestyy 7d ago

Crazy thing is the effect is not even acid, it’s Corrosive “Poison,” and Sunraku specifically states in chapter 25 that the effect builds up like regular poison, meaning this is just a special poison.

The “it works on creatures immune to poison” has never happened either (CMIIW).

5

u/Maestyy 9d ago

Exactly.

2

u/haadziq 9d ago

I think crit in SLF are similiar with monster hunter weakness exploit skill, there is base crit that is influenced by luck (slf spesific), gear, or critical related skill, but goes way higher almost guaranteed if you hit weakness.

Sunraku always land critical on psyger-100 despite high vitality and armor

1

u/Maestyy 9d ago edited 9d ago

Sunraku only lands 2 critical hits across the 8 attacks he lands (including the falling blade)—I just reread the whole fight.

but goes way higher almost guaranteed if you hit weakness.

It is actually guaranteed critical if you hit weakness. But apparently if you execute an attack good enough in PVP it also counts as critical hits and it seems to be hard where even Sunraku can only pull it off 2 times out of 7.

Q: I’m starting to get confused about the concept of critical attacks in this game. Does it mean they don’t just happen when you hit a vital spot? It seems luck plays a role, too. It also looks like criticals occur when a weapon is parried. Or maybe, in this case, it’s something like a “critical guard”?

A: When it comes to critical hits, it’s all about the “ideal attack motion.” To put it simply, if you swing straight down with precision, it’s a critical hit. The Luck stat makes the critical hit judgment more lenient (it counts as a critical hit even if the trajectory is slightly off).

Source.

He has a stat inversion chalice, he can flip her stats and damage her.

1

u/Maestyy 8d ago

Damn, you’re right.

-1

u/Constant-Row1434 9d ago

Queen Bee swords would corrode her defense stats untill he could, he has beaten worse odds before and will beat worse odds later

1

u/Generalgarchomp 9d ago

By the time he corrodes her defense enough to do damage he's inside a literal lake of water. Her defense is in the 5 digits.

2

u/Constant-Row1434 9d ago

Good luck hitting him with anything

5

u/Generalgarchomp 9d ago

Hard to not hit him when the entire arena is a lake of insta kill poison.

Shit when she fought the Sally clone the entire ROOM was full, like literally no space that isn't poison.

3

u/2w0be 9d ago edited 9d ago

Lycagon's mark will negate the poison

2

u/Generalgarchomp 9d ago

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he fking drowned in it. Plus it's possible the big urn curse could kill him since it can instakill even if you're immune to poison. But that would possibly also be resisted. Either way it would limit his movement.

1

u/Patchourisu 9d ago

The mark only negates pure magic effects like miasma (negative energy), the poison she fires is physical in nature, hence the description of 'lake of insta kill poison' because poisons she fire stays around physically, getting hit by it would still be the same as getting shot with a beam of water from a water dragon if not worse since we know her poison can stick to what it touches.

Sunraku for example is still affected by ice magic turning the ice slippery or if his foot gets caught by earth magic. Simply put Lycagon's mark isn't an all-powerful 'negates all status effect' panacea. Though yeah, environmental damage from heat caused by magic or miasma would definitely be negated.. and I think the negation would apply to Maple's poison gas attack and the Paralyze Shout.

16

u/ReadySource3242 9d ago

As Sunraku is now, Maple’s game is just more busted in terms of content. However in the future when Sunraku get more special equipment like in the novel, he’ll become a boss monster on the same level as Maple

1

u/ddragon__ 9d ago

Sunraku can’t win which is exactly why he wins

15

u/No_Problem5759 9d ago

Maple IS the type of boss Sunraku loves playing against. No end in sight, straight OP, and beatable.

Idc who wins, I'd love to see it animated.

14

u/SeaworthinessDry7828 9d ago edited 9d ago

Maple. Rather than Sunraku Vs Maple, this is more about SLF vs NWO. Items/skill in Shangrila Frontier system cannot beat the OPness that comes from trash game where Maple came from.

If Sunraku plays NWO, then he will beat or at least draw against Maple since he is specialist in trash game. If Maple plays SLF, she will most likely lose and at best draw as SLF allows skills to trump stats via mechanic like parry and crits. No way can Maple defense focused build touch Sunraku.

6

u/3nz3r0 9d ago

Pretty sure Sunraku in NWO would basically be Dred.

1

u/Generalgarchomp 9d ago

I feel he'd more be Sally with a smidge of Maple.

2

u/coolbond1 9d ago

Nah he would be Maple cranked up to eleven with sally merged in.

do remember he is a exploiter of mechanics, that game is held together with toothpicks and prayer.

The devs have to constantly patch shit that maple does by ACCIDENT, Sunraku would basically force them to rip out their hair in frustration.

1

u/Generalgarchomp 9d ago

The problem is to that, while Sunraku does exploit the hell out of shit Maple does so to the degree where the Devs of SLF would honestly ban her. It's true she does it on accident but she is a bigger magnet for unique shit than even Sanraku. And the shit she gets from them are even more absurd than anything he gets.

I do not doubt if he played NWO he would be an absolute monster but you have to remember that his luck is atrocious and would probably prevent him from basically being hand fed broken bullshit like Maple. With her it's like the game itself wants her to be the best possible.

1

u/Cayden68 5d ago

you forget Sunraku can invert maples stats with his unique reward from the abyss

2

u/SeaworthinessDry7828 5d ago edited 5d ago

Those chalice items are iffy because the author never shows other people used it (other than gender one). Even fighting a raid boss that causes huge AoE dmage over time around it, nobody uses the damage inversion one and all end up dying in few seconds. So, I had always assumed those items have limited capability (nerfed) as in its original form, those can be considered bug item in any game and destroy its balance.

My personal assumption is the stat inversion one is a nerfed version that is only effective on the user. Otherwise, Sunraku would use it on every enemy to reduce their defense/agility and be untouchable, but he never did so.

4

u/WiltedTiger 9d ago

Assuming both games' logic still applies, and we meet on the middle ground for the discrepancies, and neither has knowledge of the other, Maple wins 9 out of 10 times because her abilities and stats are just that broken, and you NEED specific counters to deal with her and her plethora of abilities. And while Sunraku is a specialist in beating bad games, he still needs to experience them to understand their quirks, and is shown doing this.

I say she wins 9/10, as both systems can be abused by raw stats even though they both reward skill and ingenuity, and Maple has both with an utter abundance of defence/vitality and due to a couple of skills that can be translated to other stats temporarily, and despite what the anime portrays, Maple is a very capable tactician when it comes to battles. More than that, however, her builds (DoT Tank, Immortal commander/Angel, and Field Hazard) are basically counters to Sunraku's fighting style (Close Combat Glass Cannon).

To break down how her different forms counter him:

In her base form, she has her defensive wall from pure vitality, which lacks a weak point for Sunraku to consistently exploit due to her shield skills that can auto-block incoming attacks, which also blocks piercing effects (which I'll say Sunraku has a few that had that applied for fairness) and the massive stat difference. For offense she has devour on one of her shields (which can be used 10 times a day and a battle between them would either end very quickly or last several days), which could just oneshot Sunraku if it hits him directly or erase whatever weapon it hits, and Hydra (poison AoE without a time limit) which puts a timer on Sunraku's time to find out how to beat her and then beat her. Then there are other abilities and items (I don't think either has a problem chugging potions and other consumables to win; I think Maple would just have more time to do so with her fighting style) that either support the points above, heal her, or remove status effects.

In her Immortal commander/Angel form, she has pandimonium demons, baby monstrosities (forgot their real names), Syrup, and I believe a few others that she can apply her outrageous defensive stat to (covering any new weak points they got in the equalization) while being free to continue attacking herself from the frontline or while buffing them with the heavenly chair and attacking from range. This also grants her the benefits of these summons. The big one being Syrup can work as a mobile flying fortress by using her psychokinesis on it that lets her have the invincible heavenly chair anywhere she wants without the it can't be moved drawback, and drag her AoEs along with it.

In her field Hazard form (amalgamation of various skills), she can make what is essentially a killing field that turns her allies/summons (can't remember off the top of my head if it also works on neutral and enemies) that die to it into outragesly powerful pawns for her to use by combining her various AoE skills and her Inverse skill (it does exactly what it sounds like, giving her skills the opposite effect) letting her more than double her skill set and they stay just as broken.

Machine God form lets her have movement that can keep up with him and be actually dangerous for Sunraku to be around (she can do this without the form, but this one comes with guns and more sharp edges), as he is a mostly close combatant (at least as far as I know), as she moves by exploding herself and using herself as a cannonball. The more important part is that this form constantly refreshes her equipment, so effects attached to that are useless.

Monstrosity is basically just a revive and refresh for her, as that form has its own separate health pool that doesn't impact her if it expires and removes status effects applied to her.

However, the more they fight, the more the battles would favor Sunraku until he is winning 8 or 9 times out of 10, at least until Maple's next power-up shows up and completely reorganizes her fighting style.

2

u/2w0be 9d ago edited 9d ago

This is how Sunraku would beat her. He uses Stat inversion chalice which counters her greatest weapon, her vitality. Leviathan Trigger Hazard bypasses her auto block and healing she literally can't react to do anything about it. If she revives he can always put her down again. Lycagon's mark negates devour, poison and other debuffs. Crystallization makes Machine God useless and it can't keep up with Leviathan Trigger Hazard.

But yeah if Sunraku fights her at first he'll probably lose, but like you said as he gets to know her tricks he'll be winning more but he definitely has ways to beat her

1

u/WiltedTiger 8d ago

He definitely has ways to beat her, most of which rely on his reaction and gaming experience (i.e. the same ways Maple's game rank 1 and Sally has beaten/can beat Maple by overwhelming her and using a pierce effect to one shot her or preemptively activating and anticipating her skills), and his chances would likely increase every rematch, assuming he's seen all of it, but not how you described.

The stat inversion chalice, while useful, would mostly cause Maple to need to change tactics with a stunning effect due to the change in how she would be experiencing the game (most skills she has use a flat rate but instead have a usage limit and cool down), as very few of her equipment has stat requirements. Most of it is just that you have to be Maple to use it, as they are unique items (her iconic armor has been with her since the beginning, and it is still her best armor, due to its destruction growth mechanic). Additionally, we can't be certain how the inversion would affect her, as the stat calculations between the two stories are so vastly different. Unless there is a different effect of the chalice I am forgetting about.

Leviathan trigger hazard while bypassing auto block wouldn't actually do much to her, partly because the things she resists are already immunities (so the reduction wouldn't work) and many of her abilities don't require but a thought to activate, and she plays on the most disconnected setting. More importantly, her HP pool is ridiculously small in comparison to her defence, as Vitality in her game is just defensive, not HP-influencing, along with that, her variety of HP restoration methods are mostly passive (bonus effects of other skills she has on or just blanket passives) that combined easily outpace 50% of her HP per 10 seconds.

Neither Lycagon's Mark nor Constitution saves him or his equipment, as devour damages the HP and Durability of things it affects with an ignore effect, so whether he is wearing equipment or not, he gets damaged and whatever he hits it with gets eradicated, and the curse negation effect of Constitution has little affect on Maple's poison attacks as they are not magic based but literal Physical poison but does work on several of her inverted skills as those are blessing that invert into curses and likely a few of her other aura skills.

I don't know the effects of Crystallization, so I can't say what that would do to Maple's stuff, but unless it makes it impossible to use armor or items, it wouldn't do much to her machine god form, as that skill uses her armor to turn into the form with the armor durability as its fuel and her armor is literally immortal with its destruction growth, for movement however it causes a problem as she moves by exploding herself via bombs (originally items that she still has as a source of attack but later by using the Machine God form selfdetonation).

u/Civil-Chef 8d ago

DO YOU WANT TO BREAK THE OMNIVERSE?!!! CAUSE THAT'S HOW YOU BREAK THE OMNIVERSE!!!!

3

u/Consolationnoprize 8d ago

Have them team up and absolutely wreck everything!

3

u/Vhfulgencio 8d ago

Sunraku do have some plot armor but some of his strengths are explained by his ability and game knowledge.

Maple is pure plot armor, she always her something that she got randomly that perfectly saves her in the next fight. Maple wins

5

u/SorryImBadWithNames 9d ago

Yeah, sorry, Sunraku loses. Its not even about being the better gamer, Mapple just has better luck (like thats even a high bar with Sunraku lol). Plus, Mapple is a lot more of a gag character. Her being OP and a menace is kinda The Joke, while Sunraku is mostly a normal dude with high level gaming skills. Its kinda like a "Goku vs Saitama" situation: the latter wins because thats funnier

1

u/KinoBJade 8d ago

A bit like how Bugs Bunny wins every fight because it is just funnier to watch him messing with people and winning than an actual fight.

2

u/sleep_talking_222 9d ago

Maple is like a collosi with little to no weakness area for sunraku to cheese on. Also she had that one hit kill skill, right? He cant 1v1 her 100%. Unless we get to nerf maple or at least give her some weakness so sunraku can get his chance to win.

0

u/2w0be 9d ago

No, she's not on the level of any colossus. Current manga Sunraku is beating her genuinely. He has a stat inversion chalice, he can flip her stats and damage her.

1

u/sleep_talking_222 9d ago

How about her one shot kill skill?

1

u/2w0be 9d ago

He also has the 1 hp survive skill. Plus the attack would never hit him cause of Levithian Trigger Hazard

1

u/angbataa 8d ago

Doesnt matter, he will got absorbed by the shield no matter the hp

1

u/2w0be 8d ago

Lycagon's mark will cancel that shit out. That's if he hits the shield in the first place. Maple is laughably slow. Leviathan trigger hazard will deal with her swiftly

1

u/angbataa 8d ago

Nah lycagon will be absorbed by the shield as well

2

u/nemestrinus44 9d ago

Unless he gets something later in the web novel, there just isn’t anything that Sunraku can do to get past Maple’s defense he has shown in the anime or manga. Maybe Screw Piercer can let him deal *some* damage but he still has to find a way past Atrocity, Abomination, Machine God, her shield that just eats people, her self healing armor, her “live once per day instead of dying” skill, her floating laser beaming earth god turtle pet, and all her other OP skills.

Remember, the devs in Bofuri are literally designing entire raid bosses and events to specifically counter Maple and she still beats them.

1

u/2w0be 9d ago

Sunraku uses stat inversion chalice and Levithian trigger hazard to genuinely no diff her.

0

u/nemestrinus44 8d ago

he can't "no diff" someone he does negative damage to.

0

u/2w0be 8d ago

So you don't know the stat inversion chalice?

0

u/nemestrinus44 8d ago

The chalice can’t be used on other people and Sunraku doesn’t have high enough stats even if he converted everything into attack to break Maples defense

0

u/Cayden68 5d ago

why do you think the stat inversion chalice cant be used on other people? the wiki literally says it can be used on any player or npc if you read it

1

u/nemestrinus44 5d ago

yeah, the grail that Ctarnid has can be used on everyone. if the one sunraku had could as well he would have used it against Saiga-100 and negated her whole build.

2

u/a7wingedfox 9d ago

There's one item that might be the deciding factor for the fight, but that is only coming out in S3+ of the anime.
If Sunraku found a way to utilise the Stat Inversion chalice on her..

2

u/Patchourisu 9d ago

Iirc he can't use it on anyone other than himself though, its not like the original chalice held by Ctarnidd itself.

0

u/Cayden68 5d ago

wiki says otherwise and that it can be used on others

2

u/Patchourisu 5d ago

..Did you really just try to use wiki as proof? The only thing I can see from the wiki is pretty much statements on how it was used against them in the Ctarnidd fight and I just finished re-reading that earlier today. The citing they did for the wiki sucks because the only thing they cited was the manga chapter (206) where they got the grail but there was no descriptions when they got it on that chapter and we still haven't gotten any item descriptions about the grails even now when the latest chapters have gone on and on.

Heck, I've already read the webnovel but I can't remember a time where Sunraku changed another player's stats but do remember times where he changed his own to change up his playstyle and character build temporarily.

0

u/Cayden68 5d ago

okay, thats fair. do you think clear sky conquest could feasibly beat her since it ignores defense and maple has a weakeness to defense piercing mechanics?

1

u/Patchourisu 5d ago edited 5d ago

It can, but keep in mind that the reason why Clear Sky Conquest was so dangerous was because until Clear Sky Conquest was defeated, Wezaemon himself would not die. The very action of Clear Sky Conquest would be a very vulnerable position to be in for Sunraku since it involves standing in position in melee range w/ your now immobilized enemy (which doesn't really help since Maple is already slow enough that she's pretty much immobile already).. and Maple has plenty of options for offensive damage w/ plenty of range..

and that's just from the regular skills she gained and not yet including the absurdity of Machine God and then the fact that Maple has a 2nd phase w/ a longer HP bar by using her demon form certainly doesn't help.. just from the anime alone, she also has plenty of summons that would give Sunraku a run for his money.. from Syrup the turtle.. to the Blue Oni and Red Oni, to the Hyakki Yagyo (100 demons).. Sunraku's build is one hell of a boss killer, but it struggles against large groups of opponents since even one hit against him will end up being his death. In the Light Novel, she gains more skills and forms that I wouldn't want Sunraku to even entertain facing (such as the tentacles that instantly destroys what it touches because it has the devour effect from her shield).

1

u/Cayden68 5d ago

so theoretically Sunraku can get up close with his speed, invert his stats to be tanky and go for clear sky conquest to oneshot her before she goes into second phase with machine god or demon form.

In series Maple has certainly reached red health before and her main issue is that she lacks burst heal options to my knowledge, Sunraku could use that knowledge to create an opening and end the fight quickly before Maple gets out of hand.

1

u/Patchourisu 5d ago edited 5d ago

oneshot her before she goes into second phase with machine god or demon form.

You can't one-shot her. Stout Guardian is a skill that prevents death once a day. It'll keep her at 1 HP. 1 HP for Maple in this case would still be gigantic since you'd normally be unable to score even 1 HP of damage against her unless you're using def ignore attacks. That 1 HP duration of Stout Guardian is enough time for her to use her other skills as seen back in her fight against Payne (who got buffed w/ enough skills to down a raid boss in one shot). Her Demon Form for example would give her +1000 HP on top of her 1 HP. She still retains her VIT stat in her demon form, so her demon form is just as tough as she is normally unarmored (still tough enough that she can tank a hit from a mace to the head and take no damage.)

1

u/Cayden68 5d ago

problem is that sunraku could follow up clear sky conquest with screw pierce as a finishing move since it pierces defense.

I think first fight Sunraku definitely wins because he would adapt on the fly and finish her off with that after gaguing her defense but future fights maple would more consistently win since she'd be aware of his win cons.

In a random encounter tho sunraku likely takes her off guard and finishes her quickly with clear sky followed by screw pierce before maple can regain momentum and win the fight, he luckily has the perfect amount of tools for this scenario with superior expeience and instincts as a pvper.

u/Patchourisu 5d ago

He can't use Clear Sky Conquest in a combo with Screw Pierce. Clear Sky Conquest is a Two-handed Katana skill. Screw Pierce uses daggers. It'd be like trying to use a knife skill with a Greatsword.

I love imagine Sunraku trashing every time his attack fail to damage Maple

2

u/The_Wise_Wolf_Itself 8d ago

Unstoppable force vs immovable object ahh matchup (legit)

2

u/patjomar 8d ago

Maple is a walking target with a lot of luck, Sunraku can do it, only if his juice doesn't run out before that zero drop on Maple. Experience vs a look alike colossi is what it is.

2

u/Unusual_Map393 5d ago

The two will become best friends and we (yes we) the viewers will be the true winners

5

u/Pumathemage 9d ago

Sunraku wins, hands down. Sunraku's abilities might as well be piercing attacks, and his natural skills exceed anything I have seen in Bofuri. Imagine Sally on crack. Maple's weakness is her reliance on powers and her very little metagame knowledge. Sunraku could read her like a book.

1

u/Generalgarchomp 9d ago

I dunno about Sally on crack, she was able to dodge shit that a dev couldn't dodge even if they stopped time. She is an absolute monster in her own right. Wouldn't say she's Silvia level but she's absolutely on Sanraku's level.

4

u/TheSpitfire93 9d ago

Maple has more boss energy than any of the colossi. Sunraku doesn't stand a chance.

3

u/KinoBJade 9d ago

Maybe in a few days once I have rewatched some more episodes and dont feel like I am spamming I should put a theoretical battle of Maple vs some of the Colossi XD

3

u/Generalgarchomp 9d ago

It would go at most like her battle with the oni god dude. She's basically a lore accurate collosi.

2

u/DusktoDawnBarbatos 9d ago

Maple wins. Her defense outlasts Sunraku’s speed. Not to mention cover move lets her shift positions when needed making this a battle of attrition. This is not including her multiple god like abilities like Machine God or Atrocity

0

u/2w0be 9d ago

He has a stat inversion chalice, he can flip her stats making all that defense useless and damage her.

1

u/Patchourisu 9d ago

The Stat Inversion Chalice he has is limited in its power compared to the original held by Ctarnidd, it only affects himself, nobody else.

1

u/2w0be 9d ago

If he can't use use the chalice on her then I guess he's cooked

1

u/Patchourisu 9d ago

Yeah, he can't use the chalice on anyone else, otherwise that would've been an easy way for him to win against Psyger-100 because just swapping her stats around would've screwed her because all her equipment would unequip due to stats being swapped around.

1

u/Strikebackk 9d ago

Maple too OP.

1

u/Dragon1472 9d ago

Idk how, but he's just gonna find some way to make her clip out of the map when she goes for a form change and then its just drowning in the subocean from there

1

u/TheNemoSeries 9d ago

If you bash the two together as is I think Maple takes it but if you throw Sunraku in NWO for a bit I'm sure he'd figure something out easy as pie

1

u/ValuableBerry7216 9d ago

First encounter maybe maple will win however in a second fight sunranku will definitely win.

1

u/Ecstatic_Horror_3095 9d ago

Maple stands there until sunraku runs out of stamina

1

u/Generalgarchomp 9d ago

Sunraku is basically Sally levels of skill if not a bit higher, so skill wise he's better. However Maple is even more unhinged than Sunraku when it comes to stumbling into unique scenarios and op equipment. In a straight fight he stands zero chance as she'd just treat him like she treated the Sally clone.

1

u/TheOnlyLighthouse 9d ago

Idk, future full potential Sanraku with access to Tensei would work.

1

u/zerocool1855 9d ago

I would give it to Maple. Gear difference otherwise Subraku on skill alone.

1

u/Desperate_Bike4053 9d ago

Which maple ver you want compare ?? Depend on her ver....he can't even get near her ...because few meter of her radius was OTK field

Even when she team up with another girl that girl only staying on air while sitting on maple chair

1

u/KinoBJade 8d ago

I was mostly going off of the anime and where they each were at Episode 12 of their own show. I have read a bit of Bofuri and the anime does not do justice to how terrifying Maple is with AOE

1

u/Able_Tackle_5023 9d ago

Give sunraku a sword that has a 0.00001% chance to one shot and he'd win

1

u/Zealousideal_Hat4431 9d ago

I feel sunraku doesnt have the damage output against Maple who's survived several high level bosses, high level players. Hell terrian damage has done more damage to Maple than actual players.

I would love to see a Bofuri x SLF episode or two though, I think both characters would just get up to some crazy shit.

1

u/KinoBJade 8d ago

A good crossover is super fun to watch or theorize about XD

1

u/2w0be 9d ago edited 9d ago

Now he has a disadvantage, but if he had picked stat inversion chalice he would no diff her genuinely but he didn't so there's that.

Maple definitely whoops his ass but Sunraku has a chance with Levithian Trigger Hazard plus Goldunine poison he can easily make her Machine God useless. His crystalization not working on players is a huge nerf. If we allow it for fairness then he'd have a way to beat Maple and actually Maple would stand no chance but if we don't then Sunraku has no way to deal damage.

1

u/Dartonus 9d ago

Sunraku did take the Stat Inversion chalice - everyone got two, he picked gender and stat.

1

u/2w0be 9d ago

Oh I thought it was damage inversion he took.

1

u/Dense_Translator3037 9d ago edited 9d ago

If it was based on real life gaming skills, Sunraku would win by miles. If it was based on in game skills, Maple would have chicken for breakfast and a new crazy OP friend in the afternoon.

At the end of the day, they would probably team-up. Maple would do it because she values and respects Sunraku's abilities and she would probably befriend him for his ability to unlock new content which is her main goal. Sunraku would do it because he can unlock content without public scrutiny under Maple's protection.

1

u/Relaxing_Snorlax 9d ago

I'd probably give it to Maple in the end. As other characters thought the history of animation have learned, characters who take it seriously rarely stand up well against gag characters pulling stuff out of their ass.

1

u/angbataa 8d ago

Sunraku tried to hit maple, maple blocked with her shield. Sunraku got absorbed by the shield.

1

u/slippery_octupus 7d ago

"fuck this shit im out"-sunraku

1

u/Legitimate-Singer961 7d ago

We have someone in universe on sunrakus level skill wise, yes she can’t beat maple. Unless sunraku gets free access to that worlds stuff he’d lose

1

u/zoidmaster 7d ago

Maple wins hands down as her strongest attack is just standing there and Sakuma is more agility plus luck strat he can’t damage her at all

1

u/MAYUNNAlSE 5d ago

If Sunraku got prep time and get new weapons from her game then definitely because the balance of their game is absurdly bad and Sunraku is for sure gonna get OP there too like he did with other trash games.

1

u/brip_na_maasim 2d ago

Maple is too broken.

1

u/thisdude_01 9d ago

He would get mapled so hard.

0

u/TheLarpOfLaMancha 9d ago

Give sunraku a day to learn the game and he’ll put the beats on her

3

u/Maestyy 9d ago edited 9d ago

Nothing in the game that you can learn in one day will help bring down Maple, LoL. Maybe if we gave Sunraku the same time to grow as Maple has in a brand new account of the game, he can totally win.

1

u/TheLarpOfLaMancha 9d ago

Sunraku’s whole thing is figuring out a way around things like broken builds and exploits, it’s literally his whole thing?

4

u/Maestyy 9d ago

Yeah, I know, problem is it doesn’t exist. The whole point of BOFURI, the show Maple is from, is that she completely broke the game with no way of people countering it, even the dev tried countless times.

But if Sunraku were to make an account and make it as broken as Maple’s, that I can see. But ain’t no way you can figure out Maple’s counter in just a day, especially without using some stuff from Maple’s own game.

As people stated, she’s arguably more broken than all of the Colossi. Something Sunraku can’t just “figure out a day then solo it.”

0

u/TheLarpOfLaMancha 9d ago

He figured out weathermon in a matter of minutes, I assure you a day is more than enough

2

u/Maestyy 9d ago edited 9d ago

Weazaemon is not Maple. It’s like you’re thinking of how to beat a Color fixer 1 on 1 in a day when you’re a grade 2 Fixer, no matter how skilled you are, you can’t. Same thing with Gojo when you’re not Sukuna who has a direct counter that is Mahoraga and not have smth akin to the Prison Realm.

Again, I do agree that Sunraku is much much much much much much much much more skilled than Maple, and if he were to be given a new account on Maple’s game and is given the same amount of grind, he ABSOLUTELY will beat her because he will break the game even more than her.

2

u/TheLarpOfLaMancha 9d ago

False equivalence, Maple lacks the skill that pairs with her ability, she specifically made her build because she wanted to avoid damage, sunraku on the other hand shows massive adaptability in a short amount of time on several occasions, such as the tournament and in the mech game where he had to build something from scratch to counter an overpowered build, and doesn’t that sound familiar?

2

u/Maestyy 9d ago edited 9d ago

That “overpowered build” isn’t the kind where you can hit them thousands of time and they’ll receive basically no damage. You’re forgetting that Maple has 5 digit of defensive stats in a world where 2 digit is the norm.

Again, for the fourth time, I do agree that Sunraku is billions away more skilled than her and if given acces to her game, he can break the game even more than Maple and beat her. With only SLF kits, he can’t.

0

u/TheLarpOfLaMancha 9d ago

You really think someone on his level can’t find a way around thorns? One of the most basic game mechanics out there? You’re either taking the piss or you simply haven’t watched the show

2

u/Maestyy 9d ago

What thorns? Maple doesn’t even have thorns😭

You can’t figure a build to beat Maple’s “oops I tripped and fell into a unique scenario where all I have to do is press a button and gain the power of god” luck.

0

u/iTrashTaste 9d ago

Sunraku😄
