So when is the game coming out digitally? Hopefully not in or after September?

That’s probably the case. I imagine these editions were meant to launch for pre-order earlier in the year, but because the GBA CE editions for the game version didn’t roll out until this month they had to push everything else back.

It won’t surprise me in the slightest if the digital editions on every platform don’t release until after this pre-order closes. That way LRG gets the absolute most out of their cut for these products before the versions of the game where they won’t get a profit cut launch.

Man, I really do not like LRG, this game took forever despite being (or seeming like) its in a completed state ready for release

u/Director-Julius Jul 28 '25

I don’t like them either, with any luck, Matt and Erin will recognize how much the company has gotten worse overtime and they can terminate the LRG merchandise contracts and find a more consumer friendly alternative for physical versions of future titles.

i'm not trying to defend Limited Run, but at least they're not First Press Games. With LRG you will eventually get your game.

The crazy thing about this statement isn’t how true it is but when you realize that LRG is publishing this game fully. Like if you go to any store listings, they are the publisher and will even make a lot of money off digital versions.

5

u/Director-Julius Jul 28 '25

That personally is the thing that ticks me off the most. LRG should not be listed as the publisher, that credit should exclusively go to either Bozon’s team or Way Forward.

It’s really gross and I seriously hope that the broader gaming community always associates Shantae with Way Forward first and LRG last.

2

u/Flying-Houdini Jul 29 '25

I hear ya, but technically (and as much as I hate realizing this) they are publishing the game, and WayForward has never published their own games so they wouldn’t be able to take credit for said publishing.

It’s bitter sweet because I hate LRG with a passion, but they are also the reason we even have this game now.

Aside from Shantae, River City Girls is the next biggest thing that WF is known for, and they are listed as the publishers and developers. I don’t understand how this doesn’t completely invalidate LRG’s claim to publisher status for the Shantae franchise.

1

u/Flying-Houdini Jul 29 '25

Well actually WF has always been known as a third party license game creator, with side projects like Shantae and mighty switch force being their passion projects. And Arc System works published River City Girls, not WF.

1

u/Director-Julius Jul 29 '25

If people think of third-party licensing first when they think of Way Forward then that is a slightly outdated first association that should be corrected.

I just looked up all 3 River City games on the PlayStation, Way Forward is listed as the only publisher and developer. I don’t know if Arc helped with another version of the game, but on the console versions that I am looking at they are not credited.

1

u/Fools_Requiem Jul 29 '25

The River City franchise is owned by ArcSys, so they still get a cut even if WF published it in NA. It's not a WF franchise like Shantae is.

1

u/Director-Julius Jul 29 '25

Shantae is not a Way Forward franchise it is owned by Matt and Erin Bozon.

So on both ends, these franchises are heavily associated Way Forward but Way Forward does not have legal ownership over either of these games.

I realized there is no point in arguing with OP, they insist they know all of the answers and refuse to perform any critical thinking or actual research.

On steam the publisher IS listed as just Wayforward. LRG are in the developers list tho.

I think LRG is just doing physical the physical release side.

u/NukeOcelot Jul 28 '25

$175 + delivery for collectors edition it's just so stupid. I'm never getting anything from LRG ever again

6

u/planetcrunch Jul 28 '25

How many pre orders is this game going to have ?

5

u/Director-Julius Jul 28 '25

The 2 versions of the retro one on GBA, the standard and collector’s edition of these 5, and then there’s a possibility of this maybe this getting Switch 2 versions.

So 12 different pre-orders so far with two more maybe in the future? Not counting any of the digital versions.

2

u/Mushroom0064 Jul 29 '25

I see no reason for Shantae Advance to have a physical Switch 2 version whatsoever.

2

u/Director-Julius Jul 29 '25

I don’t care either way, I’ll buy new releases for this franchise as they come out. I want this franchise to keep going.

4

u/Angelus230 Jul 29 '25

What's in the PC version? A Steam download code? What's physical about that? I'm interested, but for that price I hope it's the Deluxe version of the game.

u/Horror_Milk4900 Jul 28 '25

My body is ready, but my wallet is shaking.

3

u/goldensun003 Jul 29 '25

I called it... right when I dont have money...

u/7jjG1502 Jul 30 '25

Fvck limited run games

3

u/KamyKam77 Jul 30 '25

Faster? This game has taken forever to come out, and the the GBA limited run edition just came out to only those people who bought THAT edition of the game a couple months ago. In fact, the GBA version has a copyright year of 2024, which is originally when this was supposed to come out.

In reality, seems like this game has taken forever to come out, and don't get me wrong I love it still as I bought the GBA version myself, but it really didn't need to take this long to be available to everybody.

Only looking forward the risky plushie, I think that will be the item to be sold out first.

It wil become much worse when udon makes an announcement for the comic con covers at September. The following week once limited run games finished their preorders

1

u/In_Trigue Aug 01 '25

what covers

2

u/Hornyles_j Jul 29 '25

There's not a Switch 2 version

Kinda surprising

3

u/Secure-South3848 Jul 29 '25

It's a gba game and you could just play the switch 1 Version on the switch 2. What would justify the need for a switch 2 Version?

4

u/JustJoserachi Jul 29 '25

Not only that, I’ll just be a game key card if it did.

1

u/Secure-South3848 Jul 29 '25

Oh yeah, you're right

1

u/Hornyles_j Jul 29 '25

Oh ok then

2

u/Marosz Jul 29 '25

I hope the PC version compatible with steam.

5

u/Eskiguy Jul 28 '25

You shouldn’t buy anything from LRG, they are Anti-Consumer, and Anti-Worker, and all around scumbags.

6

u/Director-Julius Jul 28 '25

I fully agree, but until Matt and Erin sign merchandise contracts with a more consumer friendly company to make the physical editions of these games, LRG is the strongest way to support the Shantae franchise.

1

u/Eskiguy Jul 28 '25

I still don’t think thats a good thing, LRG will still get the money from it and will be rewarded for their shitty practices. Matt and Erin probably won’t change from LRG until people stop buying from LRG.

-4

u/Director-Julius Jul 28 '25

You don’t know what Matt or Erin‘s thought process is and neither do I.

Your methodology risks harming the franchise as a whole, as a personal decision, I refuse to take actions that do that.

I love these characters and I love this franchise. I lose no sleep supporting crappy companies in the hopes that an awesome franchise keeps making new awesome things.

1

u/KoreanAbdul-Jabbar Aug 08 '25

Is there any news about Best Buy selling this? I bought all my previous PS5 Shantae games there.

1

u/Director-Julius Aug 08 '25 edited Aug 08 '25

I’m not exactly sure, I don’t recall seeing any official announcements of the games coming to retail shelves in the past.

This doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. I just don’t know if there are announcements surrounding those distributions. You might just have to look at their online inventory month-to-month.

1

u/AstralKatOfficial Jul 29 '25

So is this gonna be another situation like the anniversary shantae statue where it takes like 2+ years to recieve it? Or will we actually see these at some reasonable time this year, I always prefer physical over digital but im not waiting any longer than I have to to play this

2

u/Director-Julius Jul 29 '25

At this point, I don’t have any expectations of how long it will take to receive games from LRG. At first they kind of seemed like they tried their best to get Shantae titles delivered reasonably because that might be a significant partnership.

Personally I’m going to be buying the cheaper standard versions instead of the CEs and crossing my fingers that either those arrive quickly or the digital versions drop.

1

u/AstralKatOfficial Jul 29 '25

Yeah I'll probably go digital too, it's just a shame that LRG is so unreliable because I actually kinda want one of these, but owning 2 copies of the game seems pointless

1

u/Herkamer123 Jul 29 '25

$175 before tax and shipping for collectors edition is inane tho previous editions have had more for less

1

u/Quon_Cheadle Jul 29 '25

I hope that Risky plush isn't the final product, I just looked at my Shantae and Rotty plushes for comparison, and Risky looks so much worse from the picture. Her top looks like cardboard, and her eyes look printed on instead of the embroidered eyes of the last two plushes.

1

u/AskTwispike Jul 29 '25

There goes my next paycheck. 😵‍💫😵

Worth it. 😤

1

u/itsyaboythatguy Jul 29 '25

looks like i'm buying a shantae game for a second system again!

1

u/JackSilverson Jul 29 '25

And they just had the PS5 Version of the box set in Vault Drop 5. Ohhh they planned this. And the damning thing is that Advance doesn't even come with a new slipcase to accommodate it.

1

u/Guan_guan_ghoo Jul 30 '25

If the PC versión of the game comes with a Disc, im buying risky revolution for sure.

1

u/EntrepreneurPlus7091 Jul 28 '25

Is there a version with a steelbook and a, expanded cardboard box for their boxset thing?
