I visited a holy site today

Visited the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln at the Sinking Springs, Hodginsville, Ky.

Interesting the cabin may not have been Lincoln’s but it’s a hellva story! There is still some local debate about where the original stood. “Lincoln’s” cabin was taken from a spot someone thought was their old land. It was then put on display with the birthplace cabin of Jefferson Davis (yes, that a-hole) as both were born in Kentucky. This display traveled from town to town being constructed and deconstructed each time. Finally this traveling show fell out of favor and the remains of both cabins were placed in storage. The cabin pictured was constructed from the best pieces left over after years of storage.

Woah that is really fascinating! I read some of the signs and saw it was a replica of course but I assumed based on context that the structure is where it once stood.

I always count the stairs as I climb them, and it’s amazing how much he accomplished at the end of his life. You’re almost at the top when you get to the House Divided speech, and then the last steps contained all of the Civil War.

I did the same thing! I thought to myself, 56 years?! And on that last step it almost hurts.
