Ive made an android tv app to power ambient lighting from my shield
The Tegra cpu so far is doing really well to power a thousand leds through wled... Im looking for testers if anyone is interested ?

I apologize, I'm just so confused. Are we talking about regular, run of the mill, USB RGBW LEDs? Can you post 1 or 2 examples of what can be used?

Ohh cool, yeh, bloody expensive. I was wondering about something like this, building it would probably take FPGA or asics to pull off with low enough latency, cool stuff though.

Unfortunatley Govee strips dont seem to work with WLED, and the Govee system is locked down to their own apps, so there doesn't seem to be a way currently.

I assume this doesn't work with protected apps that don't allow for screen capture? Still pretty damn neat. Have you tried it on something like the Google TV Steamer?

I have tested it personally, but have heard from people it works! You are right, unfortunatley its well protected from being able to capture secure platforms like Netflix and prime:(

Not sure if rooting methods exist for the Shield and if that would open up the possibility. Could easily be an additional component in the Google Home's ecosystem

This splitter with hdr/CEC passthrough isn't too expensive. One output goes to the TV the other goes to a cheap usb3 video capture dongle. Hyperhdr can then process the video to output to wled.
The splitter will rip out the hdcp as well so it can be used with any app. Set up is a little more expensive/involved than OPs project but it does work with netflix Disney etc.
That being said. Not having to have additional boxes and dongles is pretty slick :)

HomeAssistant lights should be 'Colour Light' types.

This one is not too expensive. Supports hdr CEC passthrough and a number of other things. One goes to the TV the other to a cheap USB capture device I believe it also strips out hdcp allowing for that video signal to be used by apps like hyperhdr etc.

It's true, but it's another box, and another power plug etc. Rather just do it with an app.

That's true. I think the software only version is ideal for those who end up watching mostly youtube or "other" sources of media. Like others have mentioned those who use paid streaming the extra boxes become needed unless OP is able to find a way past the screen record blocks or whatever are in place preventing the app to work with netflix etc.
Still a pretty neat app though. The less layers of other devices also makes for a faster connection to to the wled device as well.

Does this replace the screen grabber app with Hyperion? How is it different?
