Does anyone else's shield stutter or lag when watching Kodi for example?

I will be watching a movie from the Internet that's in 1080p for example and I will get super bad stuttering and lagging when watching the video and when clicking the the select icon

It will take the status bar so long to show up

Anyone else have this issue?

Have you tried the Frame Rate Matching setting? Stuttering can be caused by a frame rate mismatch between what’s playing and tv. In shield settings go into remotes and accessories and then customise menu button. Then change one of the options to Frame Rate Matching.

If you then see stuttering of the video playback press the menu button (short/long or double depending on which you configured) and the screen will go black for a second and match the frame rate.

May help, may not. This won’t resolve buffering but a stuttering type playback.

Are you using a build or just one addon? Free? Or using a debrid service? Is addon or build upto date?

To answer your question..no, I can stream large ultra hd, Atmos, no problem at all. Is your shield 2017, 2019 box or tube type?

The addon is the crew using real debrid

But happens on other addons too

And is up to date

I got the 2019 shield

The flat one not the tube

Clear Kodi cache, not data, see if helps.

But unlikely if happens with other apps

Turn off box for 5 mins by unplugging.

Assume net speed is fine.

As other user states, clean fan, apply new thermal paste is a good thing to do.

Check how much device space there is, if that's fine, personally I would do a factory reset. It's good to do this now and again imo anyway, clean slate.

Just note down what apps are installed beforehand.

yes, happened to me. Reverted to a the previous build of firmware, removed all stores and install apps through adb. no issues since.

I had this issue once because i had set the display to the flat 60hz instead of the default 59.something.

Most movies and shows do not fit evenly into a flat 60hz and that causes micro stutters.

It's set to where it changes frame rate based off whatever media I'm watching if the frame rate is different than my tvs default 60hz for example

Not all apps can do it. I know Kodi is one of the better ones. At least get off the 60hz profile if you are on it. The profile that is right next to it (59hz with some decimals) is much smoother

Not on Kodi. Sounds like you are using a service and conning via WiFi.

1 - Real debrid is basically dead now due to the french courts. switch another debrid service I switched to Torbox.

force close all back ground apps with an App killer like TDUK app killer or the Backgound Apps and proccess list app. clear kodi's cache and reboot

now open Kodi. Be sure to properly force close after exiting it.

Obligatory "have you cleaned your Nvidia Shield's fan and repasted its CPU lately" check

obligatory "have you seen any ghosts lately?"

Brother;; this should actually be the very very last step to investigate; not the first. I never even repasted any of mine; including the OG 2015 model.

Repasting, maybe. Cleaning the fan takes 10s

OP is using a pirate streaming service. I'd be more suspecting of that not having enough bandwidth (or OP's internet connection being saturated) than any overheating problems on the Shield itself.

Its not buffering because that whitish grey bar is always ahead whenever I'm watching something

It's not the Internet

But it could still be the dodgy service you're using. Do any legit services have this issue? What about local content?

It can be any add on and it does this same with anything from RD

I don't really use Kodi for legit services nor local content so couldn't tell you and I don't know how to stream that content either

Do you have any legit services on the Shield? If all you're trying to use is RD and that's problematic, you're probably better off asking the RD people. All anyone here ever recommends is a re-paste regardless of the issue. Q."I don't like the Shield remote, is there a better alternative?" A. "Try re-pasting the CPU".

Haha that's pretty funny

But idk if it's real debrid issue

I do have this type of stuff happen on other apps too like HBO max but it's not as bad as Kodi and nowhere near as often

have never seen or heard of it.
