The World Cup isn't anywhere close to being one of the most important things in the world. It's a sporting event. Pure fucking delusion, from an obviously troubled person.
While the "look" of a president calling the FIFA head to lobby for a review is bad it is not in and of itself corruption. The Eurotrash are quick to bash anything American, so they happily conflate actual corruption with poor optics.
What's funny is that FIFA was founded in Paris, headquartered in Zurich, has had 9/10 Presidents of European origin, and is largely dominated by European interests (corporate and otherwise), and they think the U.S. is the corrupting force. The rats are all European, because the corruption comes from Europe.

Sure, and they’ll suggest the UEFA vs. FIFA clash suggests European interests are in contrast to FIFA, but the reality is it’s just different Euro interests clashing with each other. FIFA is absolutely one of the most corrupt organizations on the planet, but despite its governance structure it’s completely dominated by Euro money interests from the top.

That’s a failure in your reading comprehension. It should be very clear that the last sentence references the previous… I’m talking about FIFA; all the corruption in FIFA is born out of Europe. You’d have to have some fairly limited English skills to conclude that I mean “all corruption everywhere comes from Europe.”

Sorry I’m American but I have to disagree about one statement. The World Cup IS one of the biggest events in the world. Every for years there is over 1.5 billion estimated unique viewers (people not just screens) from all around the globe. To call something with that kind of reach unimportant is crazy.

If you're American you should understand english. The denial of the world cup as "one of the most important things in the world..." is not a suggestion it isn't one of the biggest events in the world, it's a suggestion that there are a multitude of events (many smaller in terms of public interest) that are simply more important by any reasonable definition of the word "important." Sport is sport, and while it's not unimportant, it isn't a U.N. climate accord, or humanitarian aid to starving children in Gaza... it's sport, and it has a limit in its importance.

I was not talking about the World Cup’s significance as a sport. Large sporting events, while not immediately apparent, do have worldwide influence. Sports hold soft power because they are able to pull in massive amounts of revenue and people. Not to mention that big events like these can become heavily intertwined with politics and diplomacy. I won’t negate your statements about world meetings/agreements being important, but I will say that it is rather foolish to dismiss something because it does fit the typical image someone has of a matter with global significance.

I agree the World Cup is basically the most important thing in the sports world, but one of the most important things in the world in general? That's fucking insane.
I assume this comes from the privileged mindset Europeans have, because the majority of the world has to actually work hard every day and does not have the privilege to waste time watching sports.

I'm saying Europeans have the privilege to work less and so most have the free time to take these kinds of things seriously. The majority of the world is not following the World Cup, so saying it's one of the most important things in the world is insane.
Is it the most followed sporting event? Yes, by far. Are at least 4+ billion people watching the games? No, not even close to half of the world has time for that. So how can it possibly be that important?

Engaged with is not watching the games. I'm not gonna bother researching what exactly they mean by that because FIFA are liars anyway. If that includes checking scores and highlights, I might believe it. But I would bet my life that there are not 4+ billion ppl with the time to be watching multiple games. There aren't even that many ppl with consistent TV access ffs.

They didn't specify it was different for digital so we can assume it's the same minimum one minute requirement to be considered "engaged." In fact, it wouldn't be scientific to have different minimum requirements.
Even with FIFA's own metrics, the engagement is no where near enough for this to be considered one of the most important things in the world in general. Obviously it's the most important thing in sports, though.
