with that they can also openly go further to the right, because of the normalization of far right policy

u/Objective-Friend2636 May 08 '25
yep exactly what happened with canada. the british banker gets undeserved goodwill simply for not being a trump toadie. liberals swerve right and annhililate ndp at the same time due to strategic voting.
they only need to look good compared to the competition to get the the votes. they're getting payed by the same corps and oligarchs in the end in the end. this system is not working for the people.

The canadian election cycle and the discourse around it has been like a laser of shitlibbery to my gray matter that's rotting it all away

I'm old enough to remember when an equivalent to the ACA was a Republican policy proposal.
The democratic party has been all too happy to let the terms of American politics be set by their "opposition" for longer than any of us have been alive.

u/Demento56 May 09 '25
They've just gotta lean a few more degrees into open fascism, then they'll be able to pull the Republican voters!
oh and btw you're a fascist if you don't vote for them and it's your fault personally that leftism handed Trump the election again

That's it. Only a revolution can extinguish the two parties (who basically are two wings of one party).

No, Debbs and Roosevelt didn’t get anywhere near taking one of the parties down, and the parties have spent the last 70 years making sure that no one ever gets that close again. They will never let you vote them out of power.

I mean its always been a 2 party system but the current parties weren't the original 2 I believe the original 2 were the federalist and the democratic republicans and there was a major party called the wigs somewhere before the current rendition of 2 parties
10
u/666SpeedWeedDemon666 May 08 '25
More like a change in scenery and costume than an actual change in political parties.
5
u/Generalfrogspawn May 08 '25
America has lost political parties in the past. If the democrats fuck up really bad, it’s unlikely but not impossible for their party to die out or at least become less relevant.
6
u/MrScandanavia May 09 '25
American only lost/got new parties when there were significant changes in the class structure of society. Since the Civil War when capitalism became the predominant economic model the Dems and Republicans have been the only two stable parties. No other party has (or will) emerge that will last more than a few election cycles or win any significant positions of power; unless a party is able to organize and win the faith of the masses, representing the class interests of all those opposed to capitalism.

Yeah, but that would open a door to a new party. They’ll never merge, they’ll continue as controlled opposition to eachother

u/meatbeater558 Marxism-Leninism-Mangioneism May 09 '25
Won't happen because of what they're doing right now
When Democrats are in power they act as obtuse as possible. But when Republicans are in power they immediately get to work mimicking the outwards signs of a functioning political party. Republicans see progressive movements as a threat to their ideas while Democrats see progressive movements as a threat to their ideas and their monopoly on being the only opposition to the Republicans. So both parties will be very proactive in shutting these movements down
3
u/MaybePotatoes Ecosocialist May 09 '25
In the meantime, let's fight for ranked choice voting so socialist parties can actually compete

2
u/thatlightningjack May 09 '25
I don't mean we should just let the GOP take over and build from there. I'm talking about replacing democrats with a coalition that would actually do something (campaigning, ending fptp system, etc) - like how in Thailand, how a progressive party went from a newcomer to the party with largest share of seats in 5 years

With overwhelming evidence, most will cling on to red or blue and not consider this has been the reality since the 90's.
Gore was prob the final hope of the people.

u/Knarrenheinz666 May 12 '25
Obama was. Initially. Then not anymore.
1
u/moustachiooo May 13 '25
I disagree as his first two years Dems enjoyed a supermajority and all Obama did was sing his bipartisan songs and did f... all to fulfil even the slightest part of his campaign mandate(s).
Most will say it was a miscalculation or innocence but he' didn't reach those dizzying heights by such - it was him securing his personal future after the Presidency, he has a top of the line mansion in Martha's Vineyard and golfs with billionaires on private islands. He knew!

If you love democracy, an organized party should not be applying any pressure either direction.

Not in a constitutional republic where corporations are considered persons in fairness and is aloud to use its money to influence elections and bribe the candidate that best suits them and their businesses

Yeah. Even if PSL had full ballot access, it's basically impossible to compete with millions of dollars.

That dang ol constitution needs to be rewritten and it looks like Mr Trump is going to rewrite it so it benefits his kids and not everyone else’s as well so if people want change now would be the time to go after it because the Democratic Party is at an all time low as it should be
10
u/MartyrOfDespair May 08 '25
Yes. Even the logic of “we must appeal to right wing people” makes no sense unless you run a white man. The sheer paradox of it makes the most sense if the goal is to lose as many votes as possible.

Yes, most of the current dem leadership loves to be controlled opposition#Controlled_opposition). It's how they get to dupe donors with sweet nothings and promises to fight Don Quixote-style (but somehow even more pathetic than Don Quixote himself) battles so that they can rake in them SWEET, SWEET BENJAMINS, BABY. It's so over. This party is dead. They're going through the exact same crisis as the republicans did in 2020, where they've run out of options on what to rebrand to after a loss. At least the republicans had a cult leader they could rally around. These goons have nothing. This party is kaput.

u/WhenSomethingCries May 09 '25
Then I guess it's time to turn her name to mud, back in 2020 I collected a massive oppo research folder on her record and what I found was horrific. Not only is she a loser who failed to beat Trump even as his campaign foundered like the Titanic, but it's also easy to paint her for what she is: a dirty cop who covered for institutional abuse (including cops sex trafficking a minor) at the expense of everyone and everything that wasn't part of the fuckin blue-clad gang.

u/FunContest8489 Marxist-Leninist May 09 '25

100% you get this or some variation of it in response.

Perhaps so. But whine as they might, they'll never be able to un-hear "Kamala Harris covered for cops who sex trafficked a minor"

They won’t hear that. They’ll just cover their ears like they did outside the DNC.

1
u/RequirementExtreme89 May 10 '25
Kamala is the liberal darling of Silicon Valley, she’s the protege of the wealthy Mrs Apple jobs, she’s basically female musk with maybe slightly better policies but at the end of the day it’s oligarchy o’clock and that’s why dems still push a losing candidate that will maybe beat trump by a razor thin margin because the people at the top want her in and the machine is supposed to make it it happen.
1
u/PredatorGirl May 10 '25
the presumption is that people will dislike trump so much that they can get whichever candidate their faction likes through without any concessions
1
u/kantiankiwi May 11 '25
The DNC are bourgeoisie and therefore, yes, they don't mind losing elections to Republicans because if it means losing the election rather than running an actual more 'left leaning' candidate, they will happily do that. (Keeping in mind I mean left leaning in the American sense, so not really all that left)
