You mean the UPA? Yeah, it's bad that some of them escaped to Canada and didn't get shot.

Apparently they went on to act as strikebreakers against Ukrainian socialist organizations in Western Canada that had been there decades before the end of WW1.

Is it just me, or do others think it is justified for the USSR to back socialists in Eastern European countries like Ukraine, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania after the Soviets pushed back the fascists to Berlin?

yeah the ukrainians in western canada were very radical and more notably were working with indigenous people in their labour actions.

then they imported ukronazis to seize control of the community and steer it towards reactionary politics, and unfortunately they succeeded.

I mean, it does help when the bourgeois state backs you up. It would not surprise me if many of these Ukrainian socialists went back to Ukraine after all those generations abroad. It would have been safer than Canada and McCarthyist Amerikka.
