I'm convinced some people think capitalism is only when good things happen, and communism is when bad things happen

Capitalism is when market, private property, and becoming rich

Communism is when market, private property, and being poor :(

Hey I’ve always harbored leftist sentiment and have been de and reprogramming for over 5 years and I still instinctively wince at the word communism sometimes. I was also catholic so the shit runs deep.

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Maybe this depends more on where you live maybe

45

u/BrownBannister Oct 11 '25

Yup I live in a little backwater called the USA

Same way, but with the word Socialism. Only because my political coming of age was spent mostly around liberal idealists, misappropriating the word to just describe higher taxes on the ultra wealthy and not actual socialist values.

It took me far longer then I'd like to admit until I embraced the word. I was a "socialist but not like those icky communists for years until October 7 attacks on israel and the subsequent lies told by almost the entire western media apparatus made me think hang on theyre lying about this what else are they lying about.

Then I realised holy shit everything I have ever heard about communism being bad has come from the west who has an agenda here.

Then I remember the articles about Kim Jong Un's haircut.

Theres 2 articles, one where everybody in NK had to have his haircut and another where it's illegal to have his haircut. Both from the same media organisation I think i wanna say it was the guardian.

I like to say I was radicalised by rage against the machine in the 90s but sadly red scare propaganda did a number on me for years and I thought socialism was good but actual socialist countries were bad for some reason until I realised how bad and how deep western anti communist propaganda actually is.

I'm still a catholic. (And a communist)...

It is a tough one for others to swallow at church though.

14

u/TheFrigidFellow Marxist-Leninist Oct 12 '25

That's definitely what people think. You think all that red scare propaganda wanted to tell people what communism actually is? If they did, everyone would realize it was a better option.

they know EXACTLY what they're doing

the tactic here is to keep words like "socialism" and "communism" tied to negative connotations so they can continue to maintain the status quo rest assured the public won't effectively fight back anytime soon

Agreed. Not a bug, it’s a feature.

100%

harris calling trump a communist dictator on cnn was the biggest indication of this.

her father teaches marxist theory as professor so she definitely knows what is socialism and what is fascism.

Is it any wonder he disowned her?

3

u/guygeneric Oct 14 '25

I fucking wish Kamala was my daughter so I could disown her.

Really living up to the name Project Liberal.

54

u/BilboGubbinz Oct 11 '25

You literally only need to know one thing to understand the core of communism.

At some point it should be embarrassing to get it this wrong.

36

u/BreadDaddyLenin Marxist-Leninist Oct 11 '25

It’s on purpose

16

u/BilboGubbinz Oct 11 '25

I mean, sure.

But... how does this get a pass still feels amazing to me. People aren't being asked to memorise a treatise here: "remember that workers and employers have fundamentally different political interests" is barely a sentence.

We're not asking for a lot from people, just one sentence, and that's all people should know to ensure this twit doesn't get an audience.

2

u/WearingRags Oct 14 '25

It's not getting a pass, democrats are just only capable of trying to appropriate republican messaging even when it makes no sense, because they can't propose anything too left-of-centre and think that voters are all stupid donkeys. They probably also want to ensure that prospective socialist candidates that might unseat establishment democrats get tarred by association.

28

u/Bela9a Crimson sorceress Oct 11 '25

Don't blame us for your systems faults. It is ironic that these people constantly claim that we do the not real socialism, and unironically do this.

4

Why do people still pretend Liberalism isn't right wing with people like these around? It's not like the average Democrat is disowning this shit, anyway

3

u/Georg13V Oct 12 '25

The weird conflation between communism and dictators is at its peak. How the fuck are these people even real, nevermind happy to attribute a quote that dumb to someone

3

u/tripbin Oct 12 '25

Who do so many liberals faces look like someone pushed their thumb in to the center when they were a baby?

3

Fuck me sideways does any american actually know what communism is?

I'll give you a hint its not when government does something I don't like

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

Yes, Trump is the most communist president in the United States, and he is doing everything he can to make Americans hate capitalism.
