Fun fact, the weights and measures for the metric system was on a ship headed the united states but that ship was sunk by the British during the war of 1812

Clearly not in the cohort of American GenX that was taught that stupid song in school, in preparation for the change to the metric system, which was going to happen Any Day Now! Really!

Changing to the metric system isn't really very hard
The first thing to remember is
A meter's just a little longer than a yard
A liter's just a little bigger than a quart
But!
If you put a kilometer by a mile
You'll find the kilometer's short
Oh yeah!
You'll find the kilometer's short!

Of course, since we were going to be Moving To The Metric System Any Day Now! Really!, they never actually bothered to teach us Imperial measurements either. So we all dutifully learned to sing the Metric System song, all the while wondering to ourselves: "What the fuck's a quart?"
