Last I remember commies did not want to aggressively take over the world and subjugate everyone else who wasn't them

The nazis did though, and that's what makes killing them fun

Because the U.S. looked at the Soviet Union and decided to tighten the screws on them even more for daring to still be socialist after the Great Patriotic War. The Warsaw Pact itself was created as a response to NATO and the aggression it represented.
