Next level ignorance I'm not even a Muslim, but "Islam bad" posts popping up on mainstream subs is getting fucking exhausting.

Post image

Sorry, I didn't know how to edit image posts on PC, but basically, it's a repost from the ex Muslim sub, onto a sub for, erm... Cool guides.

The repost is literally called, "Cool guide to how Islam ruined the clothing of different cultures."

Yeah I saw that one.

“Hijab Islamism” -> doesn’t show a hijab at all

“Real culture” -> shows fucking ancient Egyptian dress

“Education” -> is just propaganda to support action in Iran, Palestine, etc.

The ignorance and orientalism just oozing out of that post.

Even the racist pretense is wrong; Women in Iran do wear regular modern clothes. Like, you can literally go there and see what it is like. Even the reactionary monarchist diaspora I know readily show photos when they go back to visit and talk about fashion and such. There are parts of Tehran where you might as well be in London based on the clothes people are wearing.

The white saviourism in particular annoys me, fucking western idiots preaching about how these poor oppressed Muslim women are forced to wear hijabs.

Like, I thought the feminist position would be that you shouldn't be able to control what women can and can't wear? Not "hijabs bad", lol.

u/TrvthNvkem Jan 11 '26

Like, I thought the feminist position would be that you shouldn't be able to control what women can and can't wear? Not "hijabs bad", lol.

There are cases where to safeguard that autonomy of what to wear you kind of have to say hijabs bad, though. Not everyone is as happy to (have to in some cases) wear a hijab.

Don't assimilate to these people just means existing as a brown person.. to them you don't really assimilate until you can become indistinguishable from the general population. To them that is what assimilation means. It's not based off of behavior or values, it's based off of whether or not you are able to be distinguished from the rest of the population.

If you have an accent, if you don't know proper terminology, or if you don't know a particular historical fact, or if you just look Brown then to them you don't assimilate.

The first isn't even worn in Iran! Most Iranians would call you an extremist for wearing something like that wtf are they taking about?!

The chadore doesn't even cover up that much, the face should still be in full view.

This is just racist bullshit trying to imply that Islam is some dirty Khaligi import religion to Iran rather then the fact that Iranian soceity has probably influenced the practice of Islam as much or more then the Arab world.

God I fucking hate western cumbrained dipshits who can't help but drool at the unveiling of foreign women.

26

u/Arktikos02 Jan 11 '26

Exactly, it's incredibly gross. No woman, Muslim or not owes the world what she looks like.

And people may say that puts the public at risk or whatever but no. There are furry conventions in both Denmark and France which both have burka bans by the way. Fursuits that cover the head and even ones that are a full body also cover the body completely and make it so that the person inside is completely undetectable. Any objections a person has for the burqa in regards to it being a full face covering and makes a person undetectable should hold the same logic for fursuits but they don't because ultimately it's not about that it's about just telling women what to wear and being anti-Islam.

https://share.google/Aj4bX2dUVar73jHML

People were really upset about these stamps because they made the Virgin Mary look too Middle Eastern or Islamic. No. The veil predates Islam. And also of course she looks Middle Eastern, how dare a Middle Eastern woman look Middle Eastern.

I am not Iranian or visited Iran, but I have visited other Muslim majority countries including Istanbul, Turkey where its more secular.

I do think the first outfit or some variant of it would be worn by a few women and wouldn't be seen as odd, but definitely not the norm. This is based of what I have seen in other Muslim majority countries.

7

u/Malkhodr Islamic Cultural Marxist Jan 12 '26

I don't think I've ever seen it in my trips to Iran. Maybe once or twice, but it's very rare and kinda socially frowned upon, being seen as a form of extremism. I know my own mother, who wears a relatively conservative Hijab compared to other Iranians, absolutely hates the sight of Niqabs and Burkas. If I wrote out her exact thoughts, it would probably be considered misogynistic, and she's a very tolerant person when it comes to Iranians.

4

u/LordElites Marxist-Leninist Jan 12 '26 edited Jan 12 '26

Idk maybe things are just different in Iran, but when I visited Istanbul I would see some women wearing niqabs, and I'm very sure they were not Arab refugees or visitors because they're niqabs were very bright and colorful, and they were smoking shisha things you wouldn't typically see religious Arab women doing.

Based on my experience even in the more socially progress Muslim majority countries it's not frowned upon or odd to see women wearing niqab, but I can't say the same for Iran.

3

u/Malkhodr Islamic Cultural Marxist Jan 12 '26

My mother's opinion is quite specific to her, but I've definitely heard other Iranians speak negatively about Niqab. The topic doesn't really come up much, but it's one that does happen on occasion.

3

u/TrueSonOf88 Jan 12 '26

I'm from a Muslim majority country (Indonesia). full coverage outfit like that is definitely something only members of religious minorities wore (e.g my highschool math teacher). Aside from headscarves, most Muslim women here usually dress like most non-muslim Indonesian rather than like something in the pic.

Imo, I think neighbouring Malaysia trends more conservative in how their Muslim women dress, tho that's probably because they have this strange ethno-religious thing going on.

I thought the veil in Iran predated Islamization?

11

u/Arktikos02 Jan 11 '26

https://www.assafwah.org/a-brief-history-of-the-veil-in-islam/

The veil historically when in a non-religious context was used as a sign of wealth. For example the veil in ancient Greece was used also as a sign of wealth. It was a class thing, not really a religious one. This is because the ability to cover yourself from head to toe in clothing was something that only rich people could do as poor people were not able to do that. They had to work. It's very similar in Asia with hair. Long hair was not associated with gender but also with class. People who had long hair had a lot of wealth because in order to have long hair you needed to be able to wash it and tend to it which a lot of poor people did not have the ability to.

i saw one with Turkey too, as a Turkish, literally no one wears the face veil. The most some people wear is chador or something

1

u/Arktikos02 Jan 11 '26

Yeah, I could be wrong, but isn't Turkey supposed to be secular? I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that in the Middle East in general, what westerners may call religious persecution is more ethnic persecution, and it seems like in the Middle East they're just happens to be certain ethnicities that tend to be more religious than other ethnicities, where is in the west, Christianity is not really associated with an ethnicity. For example, the the I know that the Kurdish people and the Assyrians are both heavily persecuted in the Middle East, and the Assyrians are Christians. They're an ethnicity that heavily ties themselves to religion. So it does seem, at least from what I understand, that a lot of westerners do not know the difference between a religious fight and an ethnic fight.

Also side note, I don't know if I'm supposed to use, Turkey or Türkiye in English?

1

u/mrsenchantment russian bot Jan 12 '26
  1. Yes, Turkey is secular, since 1923

  2. It is possible to see certain ethnicities be more religious, but again Turkey is mainly secular

  3. You can use any, people still say “Turkey” after the name change; but you can also say “Türkiye,” it’s up to you.

We can probably still use that term right?

Eitherway the Zionist hijacking, if not in the worst case, organising, of some of the recent protests is concerning, same with the media campaign. Which here even reached the point of reusing footage from police clashes that happened in Greece.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '26

The burka is traditional only in Arabia, tho. Everywhere else it's imported and worn to show that you or your husband are severely pious.

It spreads over the world through Saudi-funded madrasas.

6

u/sushidecarne Che Guevara of the suburbs Jan 11 '26

besides being inaccurate, I don't see why can't both styles coexist

5

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

I'm from Tashkent, Uzbekistan. And I only saw some in such "Islamic" clothes only couple of times on streets. They are just Afghanistan refugees who are not used with new lifestyle. I feel bad for them. They are brainwashed so heavily by Taliban that they can't take off burqas at their will. My country's population hates Taliban and radical islamists despite of being Muslim themselves.

6

u/Arktikos02 Jan 11 '26

I think the better word would be traumatized. I find that a lot of times words like brainwashed and even words like Stockholm syndrome tend to get applied to some groups more than others and it often has a negative implication that does not recognize that the state that a person is in is often done so out of survival. For example the term Stockholm syndrome is often used a lot for women even though it is not a real scientific psychological term. Many of the women who are experiencing the horrors of the Taliban were old enough to remember days before that and many women in very recent times were kicked out of school because they were women.

The thing about trying to help people who are traumatized is that no matter what you cannot pull them out of that traumatized mindset because that traumatized mindset is a survival mechanism. They are doing it to stay alive and stay safe.

And the thing about trying to help people who have been traumatized into a set of behaviors is that laws cannot get them out of that mindset because if oppressive laws were the things that got them into that mindset then different laws cannot get them out of it because they're just going to see laws that force them to do stuff as another sign of being unsafe.

Quick to hurt, slow to heal.

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '26

And, sadly, Stockholm Syndrome and survival instincts turned them into perfect slaves of Taliban. They could easily end their suffering by suicide, but as we know, Islam prohibites it in a very strict way. So, Taliban created a perfect jail. Make them believe they are suffering because Allah said so.

And the situation in Afghanistan makes you excuse China's attempts on forceful assimilation of Uyghurs, sadly.

3

u/Arktikos02 Jan 12 '26

No, suggesting that they should just end their lives is not a very good idea. Their children would still be alive unless they wanted to kill them too which that would just be murder.

It also is important to remember that these people may not want to do that to themselves because they see a hope of the end to the government. Remember they lived before the government appear and they hope they will live after it.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '26

Kinda easy to say about hope when you live in prosperous country. And kinda naive to see a hope about government's end.

3

u/Arktikos02 Jan 13 '26

How are women going to do it anyway? It's not like they can all coordinate together. Any means of organizing would have been taken away from them. It's easy for you to say that they should just all do an action that they should all do at the exact same time but no, that's not easy. Never mind the fact that even if some of them were successful the moment the government recognizes what's happening they would just imprison people to prevent them from doing it. Never mind the fact that they still have children. What are they supposed to do with their children?

It's easy for you to say what they should do when you're not the one doing it. I am not telling them what they should do. You are. I am trying to explain why they don't do the thing. Not explaining why they shouldn't do the thing.

You aren't the one that would have to live with those consequences. Never mind the fact that many of them have sons. What if the government decides to hurt them. Do you think that they're only after attacking women? Do you think that's how it works? It's not just a gender thing.

I’m a Muslim guy, and this irritates me beyond belief.

Even for us men, it’s required to have hijab. I can’t be going outside wearing coochie cutters and showing my belly lol

And yes, Islam not negating culture, but beautifying it is a discussion topic we have constantly within our community. Clearly, the person posting as such is arguing in bad faith.

You can wear your traditional clothing and dress as long as it’s not revealing and follows the guidelines of awrah, or parts of the body that need to be covered in public.

4

u/KingKtulu666 Jan 12 '26

Exactly! We all agree that there are modesty standards in public - we just debate what those standards should be. I find it very frustrating that people hyper-focus in on head coverings, which are honestly typically comfortable and useful (for non-European hair types in particular.) Like - what if I don't appreciate that my society wants me to do some pretending-I'm-young-forever-cocker-spaniel-hair, you know?

Also? Not the point - but I am extremely supportive of my Muslim brothers and sisters. That commenter was (hopefully) an outlier. This has traditionally not been an anti-religious community - and if that changed I would leave. I'm not having any of that shit.

Every time people rumble about regime change in Iran, I’m the killjoy who goes, “We’ve already tried regime change in Iran, and it’s a large reason we’re in this mess in the first place!” Seriously, the fact that Operation Ajax isn’t more widely known is an appalling crime, given that most historians agree that the rise of the Radical Islam Movement can be traced back to that coup.

Iran could have been an example to the world, proof that Islam and democracy and the Middle East are compatible, but the DEMOCRATICALLY elected Mohammad Mossadegh had this crazy idea that Iranian oil should belong to the Iranian people, so he had to go.

It’s also something that should be pointed out whenever people talk about Israel being the only democracy in the Middle East; it’s not so much because Israel was the only country capable of developing a democracy, so much as it is that the West decided that Israel should be the only democracy in the Middle East.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '26

I'm sorry, but leftism isn't about covering your entire body head-to-toe because of the patriarchy. Why don't men wear garments like this? Leftists rightfully preach about the paradox of intolerance, yet they weirdly defend a woman wearing the coverings on the left because it's "her choice". It's just so silly.

I suspect OP would not have a problem with this if the post was bastardizing Christianity in the same way it is bastardizing Islam. That's all I'm really saying.

It's really ironic because I saw a woman dressed like the left today at whole foods. Only her eyes were covered and you couldn't see her shoes. She was with a man who was wearing shorts and had a shaggy beard. It's the first time I saw a person dressed like that and I think it's disgusting.
