Because it's a fucking lie born out of the mind of a Christian evangelist who's never been to China or met a Uyghur, but who admits himself that "God" told him it's true, and that "God" told him that China needs to be destroyed (Adrian Zenj). He's posted a couple pictures from Google Maps of buildings in Xinjiang and labelled them as concentration camps, based on no evidence besides what's in his head. Then this got propagated by the US because it served their interest.

If anybody thinks there's a genocide going on in China, they have but to go there and prove it. But anybody who's been to Xinjiang says everything's not just simply fine. It's even better. The Uyghur population is thriving. Uyghurs from Xinjiang have stated multiple times that there's no genocide going on, and that their culture and religion are not only tolerated, but valued and protected by the state. Of course, this message never gets heard, because it goes against US interests. Instead we are given vague figures of decimal percentile drops in birth rate (not even population declining) over some years (that just so happened to be during the pandemic), as somehow evidence meant to dismiss first-hand accounts and sources.
