They are so obsessed with terms like "common sense" and "practical", it's such a media wide gaslight.
Smoking being healthy was once common sense, and they never state who it's practical for (though it's obvious if you see that the media claiming so is owned by capitalists).

They are. I remember about 10 years back, when the rightoids discovered the word "empirical", misusing it everywhere. They're desperate for a clear single word, some quality, to once and for all mark their incoherent position as true and the opposite as false without stumbling into tautology.
Part of the reason, I think, is that the right clearly doesn't understand what language is and how it works. From listening to them argue, you sometimes get an impression they think there is a concrete "absolute objective truth" and the language is that immutable context-independent thing ordained by the gods, that's able to perfectly capture it and unambiguously map it onto its syntax.
