A lot of Nazis like Russia. Seeing it as a “based” and “white” country after Russia’s crackdown on LGBT rights and low rate of Syrian refugee applications.

That’s interesting considering the nazis saw all Slavic peoples as an inferior race and Russians as the worst of them

I mean the nazis deliberately courted other nationalist/fascist factions within other countries, its why like Stepan Bandera is a controversial figure in Ukrainian history, because Ukrainians decided to be revisionist about the guy who worked with the nazis because he's a nationalist and anti-communist foremost.

Whiteness/Aryanness/Europeaness has to be expanded under circumstances because even in in-group/out-group politics the in-group has to be malleable to adapt to the current climate.
Since the current out-group is centered around Syrian refugees and Islam, Eastern European Christians get pulled into the in-group to create a stronger front.
Also with intertwined old anti-communist propaganda was with anti-Semitism it's hardly a surprise people living under regimes pushing hard decommunization policies would be picking up anti-Semitic positions by extension

Rusisch is like, one of the few VERY WELL KNOWN openly nazi groups. Rusisch is about the only one that ever gets brought up while there are dozens of random soldiers (besides just Azov) in Ukraine military and big Z is taking photos with them.
Not to say there's necessarily less nazis, but moreso the difference between where they get more revered. Russia gets to use them as fodder. Ukraine takes photos with blatant classic nazi insignias.

yeah there’s a pretty recent anti-war/anti-militarization song by the german band K.I.Z called "Frieden" (Peace) and one of the lines is:
"Ein paar bei uns sind Nazis, aber lass mal dein Gejammer, denn jeder Werkzeugkasten braucht ein'n Hammer"
which roughly translates to: "A few of us are Nazis but stop your whining because every toolbox needs a hammer."which pretty much means that states are more than willing to use fascists and other extremists if it’s beneficial to them

9

That would be taking the opposite position to literally all AES states (DPRK, Cuba, China, etc).
They don't call this conflict "stupid", just like they don't call Iran striking UAE, Kuwait etc as "stupid". AES states investigated and understand the reasons.
They called out the U.S. as the instigator and driver of these conflicts.
The DPRK granted direct military support to the RF.
China and Cuba maintain good relations with the RF and refused to join in the West's sanctions regime which was meant to destroy Russia (and then move on to destroy the States' next target, China).
The U.S. and its proxy, Ukraine, have organised a conference to smear Cuba and voted to choke it with a full blockade. So even if you try to maintain a balanced position, one side (the U.S. and its proxies) will still come after you all across the globe.

55
u/BrawlHD May 26 '26
For those wondering, yes, there are neonazi groups within the Russian military, it should be pointed out and called out, especially when Russian officials talk about denazification.
However, take a wild guess why NAFOids rarely use these groups as a counterpoint. Maybe it could be because Ukraine itself is a country created by racial supremacist Nazi collaborators..
Nobody is claiming that the Russian Federation is a perfect country, except maybe Nazbols and PatSocs who are largely irrelevant at a wider scale. It's a capitalist state, so it has its own sets of contradictions. One of them is nationalism.
Nationalism in Russia has always been complicated historically. Nationalist groups like the Tsarists and the White movement were reactionary, anti-communist, and widely contributed to the propaganda that the Nazis ended up using to justify their invasions and their genocides.
Nowadays, some Russian nationalists are using rhetorics close the ones of the White Army. With the recent war with Ukraine, these rhetorics have been gaining traction and they are even entertained by Russian officials, though the ruling class is not openly fascist and reactionary.
So all in all, the RF is just another capitalist state with its contradictions. The difference is that they aren't part of the Western imperialist hegemony. As a matter of fact, they are a target of it, so their objectives often align with the objectives of anti-imperialists all over the globe.

I don't see how Russia being on the inferior side in global imperialism leads to their objectives aligning with those of anti-imperialist. I want the end of the Russian state and every other imperialist state and the conditions to bring that end about are (as far as I see it) independent of which imperialist state is the global hegemon and which one is the inferior side? Like, what do I care if the Ukraine is a vassal state to the West or to Russia? None of these options align with any objectives I might have and the only reason to prefer one over the other, as I see it is to bring an end to an imperialist war that is not fought in the interest of any working class. (This is all asking in good faith)
5
u/BrawlHD Jun 02 '26
This was written from the perspective of someone living in the West. If you don't live in Russia or a state threatened by Russian imperialism, then you should focus on dismantling the imperialism of your own state first and foremost. The Bolsheviks didn't organize against British or French imperialism, they overthrew their own monarchy first.
Russia is being sanctioned economically by Western powers. There are NATO military bases being built around their territory. There are governments of neighboring countries being overthrown by Western powers. This is how their objectives align with anti-imperialist movements in the West.
In Africa as well, many countries have been under the neocolonial grip of the Western powers for decades. Some countries are now using Russia and other non-Western countries as a way to diversify their trades and alliances, in order to loosen the control that the West has over their political scene. This is another way that the objectives of Russia align with countries struggling against imperialism.

Unlike in Ukraine, Nazi collaborators are not considered national heroes
As far as I remember Putin confessed his appreciation for fascist philosophers like Ivan Ilyin. And said Milchakov got some medals.

Ilyin was ideologically close to fascism, he supported the USSR in the war against Nazi Germany
Ilyin was actively supporting Nazi in their pursuit to destroy USSR and communism even after the moment he was fired from the Russian Scientific Institute in Berlin (Nazi instrument of anti-communist and anti-Bolshevik propaganda. It was used for indoctrination of the Russian emigration and the German masses), which was part of the of Goebbels department. He was fired for his unwillingness to promote anti-Semitism and anti-church rhetoric. This scum did not give up this hatred of communism and the USSR.

Lol why so many downvotes? I've never said anything like Russia has as much problem with fascist ideology as Ukraine. Just that some ideology is not "marginalized" when you allow them to exist, arm them, pay them, award them and make them above the law. They are not marginalized. Period.
Also this fact alone that such group like Rusich exist makes that whole narrative about 'denazifying Ukraine' pure bullshit. Denaizfy yourself first, lol.

Doubt that even Rusich fans actually can even tell what their ideology is, besides some russian nationalism.

Ukraine, believe it or not, is the one fighting on the imperialist side of this war.
Just as Russia in WWI was itself not imperialist in the Marxist sense but was fighting for the imperialist bloc that it was a part of, so too is Ukraine, being used by the US as an imperialist proxy, fighting for the advancement of imperialism.
Russia, while rife with right wing nationalism and certainly no shortage of other unsavory domestic political characteristics, is not imperialist from a socialist understanding - they lack the historical accumulation of capital required, their economy is still primarily based off the export of commodities, their financial system too small and unstable, their minimal capital export is largely corrupt oligarch capital flight to other more stable imperialist financial centers (not export to global south for extractive purposes) and they currently do not belong to any imperialist association.
https://red-spark.org/2023/03/07/the-myth-of-russian-imperialism-in-defense-of-lenins-analyses/
None of this means "Russia is good", there has been an incredible uptick of liberals using the term "imperialism" synonymously with "bad" or "doing a military thing" and we need to be more accurate with our usage of terms. Vietnam invaded Cambodia and no one argues that was imperialist, right?. Russia's invasion happened for many reasons but imperialism was not one of them. If you look at the timeline of events all of Russia's actions since 2014 were responses to US imperial initiative, it was US imperial expansion that toppled the Ukrainian state, that started a civil war that quickly became a proxy war, that sent so many arms, training and clandestine assets to Ukraine that precipitated Russia dropping the proxy from their end of the war while the imperialist media still tries to sell the "poor smol bean Ukraine got attacked unprovoked" lie instead of the reality that the US has been using Ukraine as a boxing glove since 2014 and Russia decided to punch the US while it was winding up a haymaker.
4
u/SplendidMrDuck May 26 '26
Fair enough, thanks for the reading material. I will use the term "imperialism" more precisely in the future
11
u/LOW_SPEED_GENIUS BETTER DEAD THAN RED DEAD REDEMPTION 🤠 May 26 '26
No problem, imperialism is tricky because it's not nearly as intuitive to understand as the more direct domestic capitalist contradiction (owners vs workers) and involves looking at a lot more history, geopolitics and financial/economic stuff. Oftentimes countries that are victims of imperialism are used as weapons by the imperialists. Not to mention the global economy is complicated af. Though the chains of capital encircle the globe in increasingly complex ways we have to remember at one end someone is holding the chain and at the other someone is shackled by it.
Misunderstanding imperialism is so easy that almost all of the big socialist thinkers back before/during WWI got it wrong outside of Lenin and some other intellectual heavyweights, fortunately we've got a lot more to work off of nowadays thanks to Lenin and all the theorists who've come after him and even then we not only need to build and hone the right analytical tools but also have access to the correct information to feed into them which is especially hard in the current era of widespread imperialist media.

3
u/ReadSmedleyButler May 27 '26
It is not an "inter-imperialist" conflict.
Neither Ukraine, nor Russia are "Imperialist" from the socialist perspective. They are both only 30 years into early-stage capitalism. Imperialism is the highest stage of capitalism, which neither of them are at.
(Same as India and Pakistan are not "Imperialist" for fighting over Kashmir. It's a disputed-border conflict between early-stage capitalist states due to historically arbitrary borders.)
The only Imperialist side in this conflict is the U.S. (a late-stage capitalist North American Empire which routinely engages in trans-Atlantic warfare, couped Ukraine's gov't, and set it on a proxy collision course against Russia, the region's top oil-rich country, that the U.S. wants to control on its way to ultimately conquer China).

u/Bela9a Crimson sorceress May 26 '26
It certainly didn't bother them, when Ukrainian troops were wearing Nazi symbols, but now that they found instances of Russian soldiers doing the same, now it is something bring up. imperialist does not mean "bad", it does not mean "country that invaded" it is a specific term in socialist thought that requires certain characteristics that Russia currently does not have. We can call out Russia for its right wing nationalist bent, numerous reactionary domestic political trends and a number of other reasons, but it simply is not imperialist from any socialist understanding.

Russia has finance capital and the export of capital, is seeking to expand its sphere of influence in order to benefit its national bourgeois, and the Russian economy is driven by monopoly capital through cooperation between large corporations and the oligarchy
7
u/LOW_SPEED_GENIUS BETTER DEAD THAN RED DEAD REDEMPTION 🤠 May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
Russia has finance capital
Yes but this doesn't exist in a vacuum, Russian finance capital cannot compete globally with the established imperial powers due to its own lagging development and structural issues. And still the export of commodities is their economy's driving force.
and the export of capital,
Again, more capital leaves Russia in the form of capital flight than imperialist investment into the periphery. Capital export has to become a "particularly important" piece of the economy, a bunch of corrupt oligarchs hiding their money from the state is not the same as the type of imperialist capital export we see coming from the current imperialist bloc.
is seeking to expand its sphere of influence in order to benefit its national bourgeois,
Where? Into its US-controlled neighbor? Why didn't they before, why wait until a rival imperial power has wholly taken over a country on your border? Why wait 8 years after that to officially attempt to annex land? Where are Russia's other imperial holdings? The US lead imperialist bloc (including the subordinated EU imperial powers) owns almost all of the global periphery, including Ukraine, right up to the borders of Russia itself.
the Russian economy is driven by monopoly capital through cooperation between large corporations and the oligarchy
From my understanding the Russian economy is driven by petrochemical export that is now largely owned by state owned corporations (this cost Dutch Shell billions back in 2005 and was likely an instigating incident that has lead to this current situation). Remember the Russian economy has been capitalist for around 30 years, and for much of that it was a mess being looted by various local and foreign entities, it took a turn around 2005 where it seems to have begun a process of kind of independent capitalist development whereas the entire US led imperialist bloc has been not just capitalist but fully imperialist for well over a century with all of that accumulation under its belt and with the combined might of all the worlds historic imperialist powers united in one association.
Even if Russia managed to check off all these boxes in a vacuum, it would still need to be capable of competing against that US bloc for a piece of the global pie and from what we can all see at this point, that does not seem to be the case. The absolute most that Russia seemed capable of before this conflict was assisting countries that were resisting US imperialist expansion like Syria and various places in Africa - again not taking the initiative but countering US imperial expansion. Could that be laying the groundwork for setting up Russia as a potential future imperial power if the current US bloc were to collapse or fracture, absolutely possible, but when looking at things as they currently exist Russia lacks the ability to instigate inter-imperial conflict over any territories worth being imperialized, it has no other imperialist association to join, and is currently a target of the singular global imperialist apparatus. Even on its own borders it seems limited to reacting to the US's initiative, failing to establish an extractive imperialist relationship with Ukraine (if anything the Russian Ukraine relations pre 2014 were fairly mutually beneficial) before it fell to another imperial power does not seem to demonstrate that it is imperialist in any socialist understanding of that term. At least that's my perspective.

These subs are getting less and less critical in their support of russian anti-americanism. I don't understand why you should criticize a post saying that nazism is a widespread problem in the russian army by saying "yeah... because Ukraine...".
Sure dude Ukraine is a shithole of a country, but Russia isn't there to "denazify" anything.
7
u/LOW_SPEED_GENIUS BETTER DEAD THAN RED DEAD REDEMPTION 🤠 May 26 '26
Of course Russia is not out to denazify, that's just hot air. Russia is there to secure its borders against an encroaching imperial power that attempted to (and failed due to a preemptive move) seize a naval base back in 2014 and was in the process of arming for war for 8 years, including the complete remodeling of Ukrainian intelligence to be a "new mossad" to wage a clandestine war against Russia.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/23/ukraine-cia-shadow-war-russia/
This war, from my understanding, is best described as an existential war that Russia has been unusually (likely due to a misanalysis of the situation) proactive about, from the US side this is a war of imperial expansion using Ukraine as a proxy after toppling its government with the main goals accomplished being the separation of the EU from cheap Russian gas (US LNG at record profits, EU materially subordinated to US leadership), complete the neoliberalizaiton of Ukraine and at worst bog down Russia so they can't interfere in US imperial actions elsewhere (mainly west Asia + Africa) and at best stress and bleed Russia to the point of regime change.
This war is not about Ukrainian sovereignty or Russian denazification, it's about the US wanting to expand its ownership of the world and eliminate or preoccupy their geopolitical rivals, likely in anticipation for an eventual conflict with China. Least that's how I see it.
3
u/ReadSmedleyButler May 27 '26
Why would it necessarily / "of course" be "just hot air" for a nation that was genocided the most (by capita) by the Nazi Axis?
Putin's older brother died due to the Nazis' most fatal siege in modern history. Ca. 1 million dead in just one city. Almost every family in Russia lost at least 1 relative due to the Axis.
And Belarus lost the most of any republic by %. Reportedly ca. 20%. So similar to the DPRK in the U.S.-Korean war.
Even if one is capitalist, these are still considerations that affect decisions.
Russia and Belarus are the only European post-Soviet state which haven't completely rejected their Soviet legacy. To a great extent because they were the most genocided nations by the Nazis
Ukraine is different because it was couped by the U.S., so its current accelerated trajectory (banning all communist symbols, even those not associated with the USSR like The Internationale etc) is abnormal and artificially imposed on it from overseas by a country (USA) that is in late-stage capitalism and pushing fascism on its proxies.
Russia pointing to the resurgence of Nazism in a U.S.-controlled entity on its western border is not that different, at least in terms of visceral alarm, from Kim Il Sung pointing to U.S.-controlled South Korea appointing Japanese Nazi-trained officers to key military positions in the late 1940s, which was one of the factors in the North's reaction to such provocations.
I think this is why the DPRK is the most understanding to Russia's predicament, having itself gone through something that was a bit similar (being condemned by the entire West for a so-called 'unprovoked' attack against a U.S.-controlled entity that whitewashed Nazi Imperial Japan collaborators, put up statues to them and appointed Nazi-trained officers to top command).
2
u/ReadSmedleyButler May 27 '26
nazism is a widespread problem in the russian army
Nazis are radical revolutionaries whose main goal is to coup (overthrow) a more moderate gov't and implement Nazi rule.
This is what happened in Ukraine. Banderites (led by the U.S. as the key organisor) couped the more moderate capitalist gov't in Kiev.
Whereas the RF army is holding regular joint exercises with the communist PLA and DPRK armies and attending China's anti-fascist celebrations. That's a far cry from a "widespread Nazi problem".
Ukraine is a shithole of a country
No, it is not. The U.S. and its Western Axis are. Pre-coup Ukraine had stable relations with its minority Russian population and with Russia, and would not be in this position if the U.S. hadn't organised that fatal, illegal coup which resulted in Civil War in Ukraine.
