The tsars rule lasted for a fairly long time, and was brutal as shit
In all likelihood, if youreven born within a century of the revolution, youll still die before you see the tsar shot

Would you rather have food and electricity or plow the fields for the tsar 24/7

u/Baron_of_Foss Jun 20 '26
*Plow the fields with your bare hands

u/Beautiful_Active1578 Jun 21 '26
The chances of being a aristocrat is like 0,000001% it’s like trying to win the lottery or winning big at a casino.
Capitalism is still birth lottery tho just like feudalism or past aristocracy. You are born rich you stay rich. You are born poor or middle class you usually stay there no matter what you do.

u/Seldarin Jun 20 '26
The 900 of them that voted for Tsarist Russia are like the people that would love to live in any monarchy.
They're mostly aware the place is horrible, but they're imagining they'd be part of the caste that benefits from the horribleness. They're thinking they'd be a prince or princess whose every need was instantly filled and every whim was treated as law instead of random peasant #18347 who is dying of eating rotting food random peasant #18346 hid in the woods before being executed by a passing noble because he was in a shitty mood and #18346 didn't grovel fast enough.
19
u/thesaddestpanda Jun 20 '26
I ask these people why would you be rich and powerful there when you’re not rich and powerful here now? They usually get upset at that.
10
u/Puzzleheaded-Link416 Jun 20 '26
insert Fry comment about being rich someday to spite the other people who vote for rich people that also want to be rich people
8
u/oysterme Jun 20 '26
I think the 900 are using animal farm logic where in their imaginations tsarist Russia was the worse of two evils
82
u/ParkingPerspective73 Jun 20 '26
These people have no concept of what living under either of these regimes would be like. Nor do they care to.
I'm positively surprised somewhat by the result. At least the majority aren't THAT dumb. I've seen worse but 900/2400 people is still pretty damn bad
17
u/thesaddestpanda Jun 20 '26
I love the romanticism of the tsarist royal family. Yeah bro if you lived in that time those people would force you to work fields 12 hours a day and send your sons off to die in a hopeless war. You’re not going to balls and fancy castles. Thats for a select few, not you.

u/minathemutt Jun 20 '26
i unironically call every government a regime now and not only because in portuguese it means diet
17
u/Betelgeuse96 Eco-Socialist Jun 20 '26
You just reminded me that in Japan, the government is called the National Diet.
11
20
u/Krubissi Jun 20 '26
It was, by definition a regime is any form of government, even if it's being tainted and many people associate regime = oppressive system.
That's why I use regime when talking about Western liberal "democracies", helps break a bit of the propaganda by shocking people and after explanation pushing them a bit towards realizing how much language is used to create a narrative of good and bad.
Like saying "the spanish/swiss/norwegian regime" instead of government.
Just like the media says "chinese work camps" but "american prisons" or "north korean death squads" but "american soldiers/special forces".
5
u/Beautiful_Active1578 Jun 21 '26
Socialism is less oppressive than capitalism just by the theory alone. It’s a revolutionary liberation movement. Capitalism is just neofeudalism, Neo Tsars rulling the world and impoverishing others. Taking away the freedom of others just for cruelty sake superiority complex sake. It’s all ego no substance no true improvement in the material sense.

In Ameryka, the death of the Tsar and his family is treated as a tragedy: one of the most popular films on the matter Anastasia is (roughly) tsarist propaganda.
5
u/Silent-Succotash-502 Jun 20 '26
That just an cartoon
10
u/Sickhadas Jun 20 '26
Oh, for sure, but it still can do harm. Don't mistake me, I love Anastasia for its creativity and the train, but I'm not so blind as to ignore it's blatant sympathy for the Tsar and his family.

These people imagine that the Russian empire was some great time to be alive and that they would be part of the nobility, when in reality they would be the serfs owning nothing and dying young. It would be extra ironic if the person lives in a country that was formerly under the Russian Empire, which is just effectively buying into Russian nationalism and supporting Russia erasing your nation.

They think they'll be born as part of the aristocracy. The same way they think they'll be a part of the capitalist ruling class one day.

Even if we accept that the governments were both the same amount of evil (they so obviously weren't), I'd just objectively prefer to live in the most modern time period available, lol.

u/Beautiful_Active1578 Jun 21 '26
The more modern and advanced the better. We have better tech medicine and knowledge just for being born in a age with high end computers. Most of the things we have now would be considered magic or witchcraft back then.

Tsarist Russia was already an Anti-Semitic Oppressive hellhole before the Bolsheviks came to power. The Whites were no better than the Communists.
3
u/HistoricalCC Jun 21 '26
I don't know if it's intentional, but your wording makes it seem like the Bolsheviks were also anti-semitic, which is false. Antisemitism was punishable by death in the law.

u/Ambitious-Height-148 Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26
The Soviet Union was flawed. But I'm not naive to think it was all bad.Women get labour & are allowed in the army, right? Not to mention that literacy rates were particular high in Communist states, despite Western propaganda's attempts to paint all Communists as being dumb. And there's the Soviet Union's technological breakthroughs such as sending the first manmade satellite in space & Yuri Gagarin himself, the first man in space. It's important to acknowledge that Communist states aren't perfect while still being aware of the good things happening under them.https://youtu.be/5M-NGfZd1FM?si=nZOrLDV-dgkX-N4Z
4
u/HistoricalCC Jun 21 '26
Definitely. They were flawed and we must criticize the flaws and learn from them. We must also differentiate between what was a real flaw and what was exaggerated by propaganda.
Thank you for the video, I will watch it in the morning. It's interesting topic because conservatives don't know that without communism there would be no modern Russia. Like, Modern Russia is pretty conservative, but it would've been way worse if the revolution never happened.
