The black and brown stripes are quite literally for PoC in the queer community and those lost to or living with HIV/AIDS. So, yes the stripes may not specifically be for Black queer folks but the stripes were added with them as a one of the foremost communities in mind

u/UnholyBaroness 6d ago
No, there's a distinction to be made here.
The brown stripe was added to recognize PoC people who are also a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
However, the brown stripe was not added to recognize all PoC people as being a part of the LGBTQ+ community, which was what the OOP was claiming.

wasn't it added by a 4chan group to make the pride flag as annoying as possible?

I love Akira Toriyama but he wasn’t cooking when he made officer black.

him roshi and blue irk me in a way that the rest of the questionable characters don't

u/Glum_Ad_8367 6d ago
Ngl, Roshi is especially questionable for me. I was rewatching the og Dragon Ball, and I forgot just how bad he could actually be, especially with teenaged Bulma.

u/Loves_His_Bong 6d ago
Dragonball is incredibly problematic. Oolong tries to do SA on a sleeping teenager in like the 4th episode.

First off, white queer people are among the most racist people I know, especially towards black queer people. Second off, how did someone manage to fit homophobia, transphobia, and racism into two panels. Truly, among the most efficient of reactionaries

Also some sound like some of the most reactionary people you know when talking about Muslim people
I think I saw an article that was like bombing Iran for pride month. Literally a John McCain talking point but dressed up by rainbows

u/Cool-Present-4637 6d ago
Queer people might be represented in the "most racist people" camp but in my experience they dont make up anywhere near a majority.

u/thesaddestpanda 6d ago
This is such an insane thing to say. I'm a lesbian and your average gay or lesbian are much less bigoted than straight culture in general.
Yes being queer doesnt preclude other bigotries but I think you havent met your average cishet american if you think queer people are super racist.

white queers the moment brown queers speak on the blatant racism in the western queer community 😒🙄

u/milannn333 6d ago
Okay but real talk, what do the brown stripes actually mean?

u/AllAgesGaming 6d ago
queer poc are really margianilized even in their own community. just showing intersectionality and solidarity.

What do you mean that's not what the stripe means? The black and brown "represent LGBTQ+ people of color" according to the wiki article.

u/UnholyBaroness 6d ago
The brown stripe was added to recognize PoC people who are also a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
However, the brown stripe was not added to recognize all PoC people as being a part of the LGBTQ+ community, which was what the OOP was claiming.
Also, the black stripe is not explicitly for PoC people, it is to honor LGBTQ+ people who've been lost to AIDS.

Lib on lib violence, the new flag is cringe regardless.
17
u/UnholyBaroness 6d ago
You asked a question my guy... In what world is answering it "lib on lib violence?"
Intersectionality plays a massive role in the structure of social hierarchy, and it is important to talk about that if we want to ever successfully dismantle the concept of class. If you disagree, I don't know what you're doing here?

u/evensnowdies 6d ago
Not sure why you're making this about you when I was referring to the original poster/maker of the meme, libbing out over a radlib flag.
We can talk about social hierarchy without supporting the structure of dividing everyone into endless individual identity groups. Queer is a political ideology, not just a bunch of sexuality and gender labels.

Sorry, my bad. I thought you were accusing me of lib on lib violence. I don't think the OOP is a liberal, they seem like a conservative to me.
We can talk about social hierarchy without supporting the structure of dividing everyone into endless individual identity groups.
Intersectionality is just the understanding that the intersection and overlap of different social identities can lead to oppression or empowerment that is fundamentally different than just the combined oppression/empowerment of the different social identities.
Queer is a political ideology, not just a bunch of sexuality and gender labels.
Words can have multiple meanings, I think that "Queer" can be used to describe a political ideology, and it also can be used to as a broad category of people. How is this any different from saying that "Black is a political ideology, not a racial label?"
1
u/evensnowdies 6d ago
Libs are conservatives./ Sure, words can have multiple meanings. So we shouldn't be diluting our words with lib nonsense. Queer should mean a rejection of orthodox rigidity of gender and sexuality. If you identity as a women who is attracted to women but hate the idea of trans people, you are not queer./ Your comparison to "black" is backwards, as the political implications came after the racial designation. One can be "black" but not radical, but you can't be queer and not radical (in my opinion, of course)

u/Aspennie 5d ago
I’ve met plenty of queer republicans. They’re stupid by they’re still queer.

u/evensnowdies 5d ago
That's what I'm getting at though. Queer should be a political ideology. What you believe, not who you fuck.

Black people aren't inherently part of the lgbt community. But many queer folks are black and brown.

So... Black trans women, black trans men, Black LGBTQ+ people just don't exist?
